Kelly Slater trusted his mother. This is a familiar story for some young celebrities. It is unfortunate for him that when he was ready to start his adult life with his fiancée he found out the bad news.It happened at an early age so hopefully he had future endorsements from sponsor companies of sportswear, surf gear and an ability to write his autobiography or interview the new surfers who were up and coming. Even in the old days TV sportscasters and those who reviewed sporting events in magazines made
I wonder if he went to his mom and was like wtf mom?! Looking back on it 20+ years later you tend to have a different perspective but I think he went ape over the fact that he thought he had at least 500k and to realize he was broke must have been a shock
A million bucks doesn't last long when you travel all over the place to catch surf and keep a home stocked with toys. Not sure of his circumstances, but blaming his Mom probably isn't the first logical conclusion.
@@YourName-jm7lz What's your point? He's blaming his mom for him not taking responsibility for his finances and you're on some tangent about sponsors. He's also bitched about his father being a drunk and when it comes to him being a father, he's an absentee one at best - a hypocritical d-bag.
I understand how neither him or his mom could be uneducated about money but when you are generating a million dollars dont you think you would ask for help
Sounds like his mother wasn't very good with money and constantly left them on the bread line. It's possible to grow up in a middle class household and be day-to-day poor as fuck! That's how it was in my family growing up, it left me terrified of having no money as an adult
Hey hi yip legend of the sport of the ocean best ever you can train practice or you want thousands have not the Talend of slater if.dont surf don't knw wht takes .why bag people that wrk hard an do well ?
Being broke sucks
ummm, so you didn't think to ask "what happened to the 1mil dollars!!!!!!???" How could an interviewer not do that!
Exactly, it's not like it's million dollar question.

Sounds like his mom screwed up
And he didn't disparage his Mom at all in this interview. Says alot about his character.

1:13 never knew he wws engaged... especially at 21 years of age
So his mom basically took all his money SMH 😑
I bet he was like a Ryan Sheckler parents used him as a meal ticket.
So his fiancé left him after discovering he was broke?
