Garrett, I am a 54 year old woman and mother. My daughters are grown and out of the house. My husband and I finally built our forever home in 2022. You have helped me more than I can say. You’ve changed and improved my style in every way and even given me more confidence in my choices. For the first time, this is MY time and my new home actually reflects that. I’ve never had that before. I feel a bit strange saying this, but I’m so proud of you and what you’re doing. I’ll be watching you grow your channel and brand and cheering you on every step of the way. I also recommend your channel to everyone I know, because friends help friends. Keep doing what you’re doing. Go Garrett LeChic! ❤️
Thank you so much for the lovely comment! It makes me so happy, and I'm glad you are enjoying the channel. Thank you for supporting the channel, and recommending us to others. I truly appreciate it. You are such an awesome person, and I'm honored to have you as part of our very valued subscriber family. :)
I like all your suggestions, and especially enjoy 'how to make it better' focus. But what you should get props for is that you choose rooms that are almost normal. I've seen a lot of these that start out with rooms that are really really bad. Something that hasn't been updated in 30 years or something that is out of a hoarders house or someone buying a full suite of one style, usually farmhouse, etc. Your examples really look like people have it almost there, and I think are more relatable to your viewers. As far as what to add....I'm an avid reader, so I always look at these living rooms etc and go, where's your reading lamp folks? lol
Watching you with your precious puppers warms my heart.
Thanks so much Debra! They are very loved. :)
@@GarrettLeChic I can tell, that's why I adore you.
That living room with the space above the console and the awkward Tv. Your suggestions were spot on. I think a natural wood coffee table would make a difference and that fireplace looks like it’s just floating there. It needs something to give it a visual anchor to the floor. Maybe a basket or small stool. Anything.
Yes, it was also the only black thing.
What a fun video! For the dining room, I like all of your ideas, lengthen the drapes, add the black chairs, definitely switch out the rug. For the breakfront if they can't afford another piece of furniture right now, I would take the top piece off and just have a sideboard. Put a large mirror above it that has a substantial formal frame with some black in it. Maybe some matching buffet lamps, urns or candlesticks that look good with that wall color and that somehow references the light fixture could be put on the sideboard. Your idea is better, but taking the top piece off could work in the meantime.
Thanks for sharing! Glad you enjoyed Amy.
😊😊😊
Great idea! It's the top that makes it farmhouse kitchen, instead of formal dining room.
I LOVE when you do these “how to fix the space” videos! They teach me so much and I get excited when you show how tweaks elevate the space. 🎉
Yay! Glad you are enjoying. :)
Please make more of these videos. I loved this video so much!
Thank you!
Garrett I love the photoshopped pictures. So helpful to actually see the changes.
Yay! :)
The change you suggested to the lace panels was awesome! I learn so much from you. I also appreciate that you understand that people are working with pieces they have for one reason or another. Sometimes it is a money issue and sometimes we don't want to be wasteful. I see value in most everything in the correct setting even if it is not my exact taste. This is why I love your channel. Take care!
Thank you so much!
I appreciate the artwork on the wall. Without that it feels like a cold space.
Love it when you help people tweak what they already have, instead of trying to change up everything and invest tons of money reinventing their space! And I adore seeing Linus of course! 🥰 Love what you do Garrett, thanks so much! ❤️
You are so welcome!
I agree with Dodie :)
@@alyvincent5984 thank you so much!
I never understand why coffee tables are so far away from couches. I see this done professionally
as well. Why wouldn’t you want access for drinks, books and a making a connection to the furniture?
I agree with all of your suggestions, but would add that in the blue and white living room with the oversized TV there should probably be at least one more accent color to keep the scheme from looking so flat and rather boring. I'd also add a lot more art work to all of the rooms, but many people don't seem to see the need for that. I do!
Yes the extended curtain rod trick…. I did that to my guest room because it only had one tiny window. The curtain rod is the width of the wall. Definitely a wow factor …. Great suggestion!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Garrett - you can improve any room. The last example with the windows - I 100% agree the drapes need to go all the way up.
🤗🤗🤗
Oh man, that first dining room looks so familiar. We inherited a whole bunch of 1970s furniture that all feels really heavy to me. Husband thinks it would be wasteful to replace any of it with different furniture that serves the same function and I can totally see where he’s coming from, but I have NO IDEA how to decorate around it. I know it’s dumb, but the thing I like about it the least is that none of it has legs so the Roomba can’t get under there. Does it get dirty? Of course not. So why does it bother me?? I don’t know! 🤷♀️

I absolutely love this type of video content! It helps me to train my eye to problem areas in my home. I watch your video in bed at night and my husband is picking up design language. I smile when this macho man talks to me about styling something. Thank you so much for all the work you put into your channel…
Thanks so much Dinah! I'm glad you are enjoying. Please take a moment to support the channel if you haven't already, and join our very valued subscriber family. :)
Love how all your suggestions are practical and involve working with what's already there. Small changes some of them, but they really do make a difference.
These are homes we can relate too!
I appreciate your thoughtful suggestions which make such an improvement!
You are so welcome!
Loved this video. For the blue and white living room- how about moving the sofa and loveseat closer so that the front legs would be on the smaller rug? It is a fairly large space and that may look more cozy without having to change the size of the rug. Also maybe adding another color; maybe some navy blue pillows so everything wouldn't look so pastel. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Keep up the photoshop videos! Decor is such a visual art and it helped so much understand what you were saying with the Photoshop! thanks for the tips (repeat a color three times!) Also love that you don't push to go buy all new stuff! Great tips thanks, and keep it up!
Glad it was helpful!
I really enjoyed this video, your photoshop skills were certainly good enough to clearly show how the little changes were able to make a big impact!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
I’ve been watching you long enough that I find myself guessing ahead what you might suggest fixing. (I also find myself guessing which of your pups you are going to feature!) I really like that you start with what you like and then make suggestions for fixes that don’t require completely starting over.
Yay! Thanks for your support. Glad you are enjoying. 🐶🐶🐶
I always learn so much from your videos! You show us the concepts, you don't just tell us about them. Thank you for honoring other's tastes. I once hired a decorator who kept nudging me to the color taupe. I don't like taupe. I love red, cream, and white. Little by little, I am learning a lot. Today, I made a note: "Colors in threes!" Hugs to your doggies!
My pleasure! I’m glad you enjoyed Virginia. 😊😊🐶🐶🐶
Thank you Garrett how to adjust features in a room to make it look better. Thank you also for sharing your cute dogs. It makes me so happy to see how much they are loved.
You are so welcome!
Absolutely loving this series! Please keep doing more, the photoshop pics are a great addition!
Glad you like them!
I loved the blue and white LR. I'd say when the colors are that perfectly matched, you can take a chance a riff on the colors a bit. Different blues, varied prints in the pillows would make the furniture look less like a set. I'd also add a third color. Pick up that lovely tan in the blue rug and maybe pop a leopard pillow in somewhere.
I agree. I would also reconsider the coffee table. To me it seems like it is a little small and floats - isn’t close enough to either sofa to be useful. Could just be the angle though. It can be hard to tell from a single photo.
I enjoy listening to your years of wisdom!🐾🐾
🤗🤗🤗
Love this type of video! I can visualize. So good! Keep them coming!
Awesome! Thank you!
Dear Garrett, Thank you for sharing your expertise. The biggest take away for me was the size of picture above bed. What a difference! I am struggling with our primary bedroom and the way you style a room is so achievable. The second take away are drapes. My husband likes vertical blinds and does not understand the impact drapes make on a space. One thing at a time I guess… 😄
Thank you again!!!
Oh no, not vertical blinds. I feel for you. Maybe if you show him enough photos of depressing rental apartments with vertical blinds, he'll come around?
My pleasure! Glad to be helpful. :)

I appreciate the time you took to photo shop your suggestions. The visual I found very helpful. I also appreciate your kindness while explaining your ideas to the owners of the spaces.
Thanks so much Lori! Glad you are enjoying. :)

I so llove your Wedgewood vase. So classic. I never get tired of it
Love you videos! I live in FL and would love to see a video on how to bring in coastal decor without it feeling ‘beachy’. And how to mix that with functional furniture, decor, rugs etc. Thanks for all your ideas and I have learned so much!

I think in the 70's we called that big cabinet in the first one "colonial". Does anyone else remember? I had a bedroom set like that.
I enjoyed this video Garrett. I tried to decide which design mistakes you would point out before you actually mentioned them to see if my skills were up to par! My favorite was the last dining room in white. I totally agree about the drapery. The homeowner should have taken the drapery higher.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m new here, currently binge watching ALL of your old videos and loving them and Albert! I’m finishing up a major home remodel and about to decorate, with the help of a design team and decorator. We just sent out our 30+ year old Hitchcock dining set and are painting some pieces black (it’s not an antique, it’s mass produced furniture). The table will get re-finished with the chairs and hutch getting painted. My mother in law thought I was crazy. I think it will be more modern and look beautiful. This video, of the dining room, agreed with what I am currently doing. Because, I do have my doubts.
Thank you, and thanks for sharing! I'm glad you are enjoying our content. Please take a moment if you haven't already to subscribe. It helps us out allot. :)

Wow -- terrific video!! Let's see more of these "Design Mistakes And How To Fix Them" videos, please. Love how you moved the television down to achieve unity with the modular unit; much more practical height for viewing as well.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed.
I see how the drapes and the rug under the table are unconnected in the first space. I came to appreciate this sort of color coordination in the weirdest way. I once worked for a company where the owner was old and old school. We had to wear slacks, dress shirts, ties and dress shoes in the office. I learned the technique of buying ties that coordinated with multiple pairs of slacks and shirts to maximize the number unique office uniforms from a small number of each garment type.
Those lessens allow me to follow your reasoning with interior design. I have come to appreciate how incisive your analysis are for a timeless and practical designed space. 🖖😁
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed.
I love love love when you do these vids, so much great info .. keep them coming .
Thanks so much!
This video was so good and so helpful. I love that you actually illustrate the changes. So often, designers say to change something but never actually show it so its hard to visualize. And your suggestions are so practical, not "buy new furniture," just a coat of paint or new drapes. Also, especially love the wonky TV ;)
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much.😊
Great assessments of all of the rooms. I’d add that in the blue living room since they already have the full width rod they could repeat the curtain panels over the three spaces between the windows, giving even more presence to that pretty blue.
😊😊😊
Thanks for a really effective tutorial and before and afters. I really enjoyed this 🐨😘🇦🇺
You’re welcome 😊 Glad you enjoyed!
Loved how respectful you were in commenting on these rooms while giving your professional opinion on how to improve them. Well done!
Thanks so much!😊😊😊
Mmm... "repeat a color three times." Love that, Garrett!
Yay!😊😊😊
As always, Garret, this was interesting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Suggestions are spot on. The bedroom and the last dining room were my faves. You nailed it in every shot. I knew what your fixes were going to be as soon as you showed the photo. Continue teaching us Garrett, we are paying attention.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video. 😊😊😊
Hi I like this video! I think the rods in the last image were installed to hide the difference in windows widths, on budget. Hence the lace panels and not actual wide curtains.
And I love your dog!!!
Thanks so much Natalia!🐶🐶🐶
10:43 that front room is such a toughie with that fireplace location and ceiling vent that draws the eye. Garrett u didn’t pick an easy one 😂. I think I would tilt the sofa a little bit so it can face the fireplace and the tv. Second, to trick the eye and keeping with the theme, I would do a portrait wall of 1960’s record albums in the space around the tv wall to balance out that fire place and draw the eye with something interesting.
Great ideas! I need my thighs restretched and your photoshopping me! So much imrovement! Raising those faux curtains was perfect! Great job again, anc I kiss the my pets heads before walking away or putting them down as well!
Thanks so much!😊😊😊
the photo shop is really helpful, not all of us are great at visualising
I find seeing the photoshopped images really helps me understand why you are making the suggestions you make. I was especially surprised and impressed by the impact of hanging a larger picture over the bed.
Glad it was helpful!😊😊😊
Thanks for these cool tips. I'm trying to determine a dining room space now. I think I'm going to consider some mismatched chairs.
My pleasure!
Thank you for always being rexpectful and kind with your design suggestions!
You are so welcome!
Especially with typos!🙃
The too small rug. That stuck out to me too. I liked that room the best even though there were things I didn’t like - the matchy sofas and the extremely massive tv although I am sure it makes for awesome viewing. It seemed like a very relaxing yet sophisticated room.
I pause your videos when you make suggestions and then I look around my own house to see if I have already applied those concepts (by accident) or if I can make some tweaks. I think it’s really fun because it doesn’t involve blowing out a wall or major construction.
Yay! I’m glad you are enjoying. 😊😊😊
Another grand video thank you ...I love how most these fixes are simple & inexpensive but make huge difference . I would also like to suggest an idea on a video, can we see one on ceilings, specifically on bold color choices , to paint or not paint the beams a color , and wallpapered . Thank you.
Thanks 👍
I love these videos! I agree with nearly all your suggestions, and I appreciate that most of the fixes are budget-friendly. In the first dining room, instead of replacing the stained colonial sideboard, why not paint it* to match the drapes? You could add a warm glaze to give it a vintage, lived-in look. Also, in the blue living room I'd change at least some of the pillows on the sofas/chair as they were too matchy-matchy. I'd get pillows with patterns and/or texture, and I'd get a nice coordinating throw to lay across the back of one of the sofas or chair. (*I don't know how you feel about promoting another YT creator, but check out the Transcend Furniture Gallery channel and look for the video where she stains/paints a chunky colonial pine dresser. The transformation is amazing, and a similar treatment would look great on the sideboard.)
Glad you are enjoying!
Another great video! I find it challenging to design around HVAC vents that in my case are at the bottom of my walls. Would love some advice about furniture layout/flow that avoids blocking the vents. Thanks for all you do!
Hum, 1st thought is to put a table in front of them, I have seen people build items with mesh or slats or lactic work sections in front and sometimes even the back completely open to secure+blend the needed open area between other items
I loved this video. It was so helpful to see the photoshopped transformations. And the suggestions were budget friendly and realistic. Well done!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much.
Hello 👋 great video, I needed to see this to help me with my living room and boy what a transformation curtains make when hung properly. Great video as always always a joy to see the fur babies 😊

Thank you so much Sharon! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and seeing Linus.🐶🐶🐶
I have to admit that I really liked that little yellow cubby in the 60's living room. It's like it's own art piece... and not clashy at all. Oh, and Linus of course!
😊😊😊
This was a very helpful video. I really liked how you used the photoshop to show the more pleasing alternative.
Glad you liked it!!
The last dining room: the window pains from the top window don't match the bottom window. That would bother me, along with the light fixture. I like your suggestions, making the curtains longer but I don't think I can get past the above mentioned issues.
Ha ha …. I just watched this for the second time …. Antagonise Albert!! made me laugh 😊 … so many details in these videos that it helps to watch again and you get even more!! Thanks Garrett!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Spot on with them all!
Thanks!
The windows, let’s talk about the windows. I was waiting for your reaction to those strange curtain rods in the last one😄😁 I love watching these types of videos you do where you take ordinary rooms and tweak them to improve the overall style. I sit and nod along as you are talking. Sometimes even saying something out loud. Usually, “the rug’s too small!” 😄 The dog just ignores my style commentary 😊🇦🇺

Great video, so much good advice. The rule of three for colours is wonderful advice. The boob light fan in the bedroom brothers me. 11:02 to me the consol looks small and too cheap , guess it matches the white IKEA soffa table, would love to see a wood table in a tone that echos the couch colour.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. 😊😊😊

Good Morning Garrett,
Thank you for the wonderful pictorial session today.
Lol, the look of a teacher during the last pic, and immediately the student gets it 🤣🤣
Love that for me😍
The immediate thing that came to my mind is when I saw the last example, oh man this is it, the tiny squeezed in drapes.
Sorry I am not able to be consistent in responding these days, the work and now the schools are going to reopen, so keeping me a bit more busy but always taking time to spend wonderful 20 minutes listening to you.

Thanks so much Ramani! Glad you enjoyed. Have a great weekend. :)
@@GarrettLeChic thank you Garrett🤗
I love that you recommended having the giant TV swapped out for a smaller size to match the fireplace surround. Everyone else says to not put a TV over the fireplace (sometimes there is no wall space or room for another option) but never give recommendations to make it look better. The frame TVs that can look like a painting when not in use look like a good option for those who can afford to upgrade.
Thanks so much! We just bought one. They are awesome. 😊😊😊
Love this video! You help me see mistakes now. So awesome! I’ve learned so much from you. The last photo is so spot on! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I actually said - What’s up with those panels and why are they not all the way to the top?! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! Love me some LeChic! ❤

Thanks Garrett …. I ALWAYS learn from your videos! So helpful that you look at really different design types and share how to improve each … such a thought provoking video! Love you and your babies 🐶🐶🐶🌹
Awesome! Thank you!
I suggest some occasional chairs in the orange living room. MCM or maybe something different. Two chairs, possibly three if they're small scale.

WOW, GARRETT!!! Thank you for another GREAT video filled with your tips and techniques! I love that with a more critical eye and a few simple changes, we can elevate our existing spaces in a major way. It's economical AND green to work with what we have, when we can!! Your recommendation to move the hutch from the dining set into the kitchen and bring in a black sideboard and coordinating chairs was my fave!!! YASSS...thanks for helping me to visualize your suggestions by using photoshop!!!!!!
No problem!!
Love the pupper breaks! I want a large living room rug but with two small fur babies, I am reluctant to invest. The doggios are just too messy!
I don’t know if this is helpful but I just looked at a “flor” catalogue and noticed you can build really big rugs but the individual squares come off so you can clean spills and accidents. Also, my sister is a big fan of ruggable because she has frenchies. Top layer peels off and goes in the washing machine -but that seems like a mega pain for a big rug!
Love your ideas! Wonderful to learn with you!❤your dogs😊
Thank you! 😊
I like the furniture in the first dining room. Since the furniture is a federal style (1800 - 1830), I would've used that for inspiration for the rest of the room. Don't know what kind of lighting fixture but not that one. I would've put a rich patterned rug - maybe Persian - under the table with solid color curtains. I've have Staffordshire dishes in the cupboard and a large beautiful oil painting or a trio of tole painted trays. Just guessing. Not a professional. Still, it would be perfect for a candlelit dinner.
LOVE your videos! I learn so much! I agree with u on your points.
Thanks so much!😊😊😊
You have such a good eye, Garrett!
Thanks so much! Nice to hear from you again. 😊😊😊
Thanks Garret!! Another fab video.
The blu and white lounge, just beautiful, but I can't believe you didn't mention the coffee table... and lack of side tables.
Also, the lady dining room, the panelli g inthe celingg didn't line up with the windows and the light fixture was not centred.... as a libran this would drive me crazy!!!!!

What would I have done in one of these spaces?
Instead of reducing the size of the TV, I would have painted the mantle black so that it made a bigger statement that matched the TV. I would also have brought some black into the room itself, with bold accessories, such as switching out the art piece with one that had a lot of black in it - a night sky rather than a day sky - also I would have added a mostly black pillow to the chair. That, plus all of your suggestions (except for the smaller TV suggestion) would make this my favourite room of the bunch.
You're so talented Garrett. It's such a delight to watch your videos. Much Success To You! 🙂

Another well thought out video. I love it when you show rooms and make suggestions as to how to make them feel more comfortable with such simple changes.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think that in the 60’s style room that the curtains are all wrong. They look like they are repurposed from another room. I would have loved to have seen a really retro pattern with a more muted palette or vibrant but complementary colours in a modern geometric. More signs of life would have given the area a more ‘spacey’ feel. Remember the Jetsons? Lol 😂 xx
I have a question regarding replacing my kitchen cabinet hardware. My kitchen has stainless steel appliances, mahogany colored cabinets and white granite flecked with black, mahogany and light gold specks. Would brushed gold hardware work in this scenario?
I truly value your design advice…Kim
The transformation to the bedroom when you made the painting above the bed bigger was astonishing. The 2 LRs, the second one, I also (on my own 😊) would have put the TV lower. The first one ( TV over the fireplace), making the TV smaller, is spot on. I enjoyed this video! TY! 💙💙💙
Thanks so much! 😊
In the first picture, I think that, if the ”kitchen furniture” must stay because it can’t go elsewhere, at the very least there should be stuff displaued on it (plates? Other things?) in colours thu reference the rug, for instance. It’s really really weird to see those shelves empty when they’re clealy meant for displaying things.
