Thanks for the video!I was in Des Moines a few months ago and want to move there soon :) Its so clean and modern
Ah glad to hear you liked it! Let us know if you need some guidance on place to live!
Its really a nice place to live
It seemed like there was an exodus from downtown following the civil unrest during Covid, mass demonstrations with substantial property damage, some residents felt unsafe. Some condos linger on the market, personally the substantial hoa dues without consequent amenities are off putting. Enough companies like Nationwide have gone to work from home that downtown vibrancy isn’t what it was.
But if you work downtown the convenience of no commute and an incredible skywalk system make it easy, if you are hardy enough to handle some winter conditions between bldgs off the skywalk. Walking to a show at the Civic Center is awesome. Farmers Market fans relish their Saturday mornings. I’m not sure there is a better downtown farmers market anywhere in the country. The airport is ridiculously close too.
I'm not sure if it was the civil unrest but the many large businesses that have left hundreds/thousands of offices empty since COVID might also have something to do with that. The city and the owners are working through what redevelopment might look like. Long road ahead, but still interesting the restaurant scene is still very strong down there. Super interesting the change of dynamics.
Great video, u did a excellent job showcasing Downtown Des Moines very informative. I'm originally from there born and raised I moved to San Diego in 2012 haven't been back since then. There's alot of changes I see which is awesome I'm planning a spring trip back there next year I'm very excited to explore the new Downtown thanks again for posting Happy Holidays from San Diego.
Glad you enjoyed it! We have a lot of fun with these videos and are planning more!
This was an excellent video. Great presentation and explanations. Thank you.
very kind of you to respond!! Thanks!
thx. looks nice 🌞
We are bias but yes we agree
Thinking of moving to downtown Des Moines, thank you for the info and video
Great! Anything more you need from us?
Me and my husband are former Des Moines natives. Living downtown is not bad. Depends on what side of town your in. Be. Mindful of your surroundings.
Agreed!! Where did you move too and what took you there if you don't mind sharing?!?
Would love to see a farmers market video!
Noted!
It’s a very nice farmers market.
@@Notlost-lj9qt One of the best in the country!!
I was born in Spencer, a very nice town. One thing I can tell you after living in Washington state since I was 5 is that I can't live in a place without mountains. I love the lakes like lake okabogi. But the lack of mountains is somehow very boring to me. I always told people here in Washington that if I stood on a picnic table in Spencer I could see south Dakota 😊
Defiantly no mountains close, but we have some big hills HAHA
beautiful
Right!
First thing in my though when I heard Des Moines is Slipknot.
Hard to disagree, I grew up in Slipknot era!
Looks like Oslo Norway except instead of the Royal Palace you get the State Capitol at the end of the street.
where is the bus terminal to travel interstate ? What is the name ? I try to find with Google Maps but not successful. TQ
There is one at 1501 2nd ave des Moines and another 45 min south of Des Moines in Oceola Iowa!
How bad are rhe winters in Des Moines?
With a good coat and gloves as long as you are not working out side it really isn't that bad! Here is a pros and cons of the Iowa Weather video!

@@Livingindesmoines thank you :)
Des Moines has over 500k ppl living here I’m born and raised here since the 80’s
The metro does have 750K, but Des Moines Property is only around 250K. Since you've been here since the 80s, what is the best part of the growth and what is the worst part of the growth?
Hi. I just on a different video that for 5 months of the year the temps are 32 to 0. That's crazy.
Dec Jan and Feb are the only months that it MIGHT be 0-32 but rarely do we have an entire month that is never above 32 degrees.. So whoever said that for 5 months it is 0-23 is completely wrong.
@@Livingindesmoines Yes, I couldn't find it. I've been deciding between Des Moines and Lincoln ,NE. Bing search shows Iowa is # 1 in humidity. Nebraska is not in the top ten.
@@deborahlozano7134 Iowa is definilty humid June15-Aug 15th... (when all the crops are planted and SUPER green) then they all die and it gets lower.. but its definitly muggy at times!
I can assure you though, regarding temps, its not 32-0 for 5 months straight haha
Will I be bored living here if I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota or SF Bay Area metro?
So hard to answer that! If anyone is bored in DSM is because you are not looking for the entertainment! Or you aren't connecting with folks that have similar items in common as you do.
You may get bored if you don't like the quiet, but I'm an introvert so I don't mind being bored sometimes
Oh yes you will definitely be bored. Minneapolis is a very spread out metro so many fun things. Bay Area also. Des Moines is in the middle of nowhere I’ve been there. It’s nice but a VERY a dead town. There’s decent stuff to do but not much and hard to meet new people unless they are transplants
It's boring don't come
No
How is the flooding in Des Moines? Thank you
2008 was the last major flood, this article explains it. But its not somethign many folks pay attention to unless the property sits in a flood plane, which is less than 5% of Des Moines and typically disclosed during any real estate transaction.
www.weather.gov/dvn/flood2008#:~:text=Water%20that%20moved%20through%20this,IL%20area%20through%20Burlington%2C%20IA.
Honestly depending on the area, flooding is rare
@@Livingindesmoines Thank you. Have a great day
South side people drive crazy west des Moines has snobs and the Eastside people are cool AF 😊
perspective ;)
Hold on I have a question for you.. let me find my information and I'll get back with you. I used to live near the capital and Drake University was like 5-10mins away..
You bet!! Give or take 5 mins!
Where would most people rather live? Des Moines Iowa or Des Moines Washington? Do people even know there’s a Des Moines Washington?
Yes I since building this channel, I did find out there is a Des Moines Washington.... and the better Des Moines is in Iowa... no doubt
EASTSIDE ..
Pockets of great homes
Eastside for life 515😂❤
I live Downtown Des Moines, I have found Court Ave not safe to live especially at night, there is also a lot of homeless Downtown Des Moines. Other than that its ok, I like to tell people about the good and the bad
Thansk for sharing your opinion! Cout Ave and 2nd st is the "party area" where they are busy with people from bars at night. Not a place for kids 11-3am! But during the day, its a great place for business meals from my experience!
Regarding homeless, there has been an uptick in homeless the last few years, but its all relative to expectations that each of us have.
Is there any construction jobs
@@medic173 Yes absolutly from general carpentry road work construction to concrete and dirtwork. A lot are avaialble.
The homelessness is due to the far right leaning politics of our state.
@@Livingindesmoines What do you mean - 'all relative to expectations'?
Apartments are terrible.. walls are too rhin. You can also hear you above neighbor puonding their feet.
In every apartment? I mean yes some are this way, but some are much better sound proofed...
Downtown DM? not much to do, sorry. once you peruse court ave youve pretty much seen it . I moved to seattle 40 years ago. i still go visit family. yes its grown a bit.... but youre still in Iowa.
too hot. too cold. not much doing. groceries are high in Iowa for some reason. more than seattle. if im going to pay that much to live and eat id rather be in a place with more to do.
You my friend are tough to please, nothign to do downtown DSM? 40 yrs ago... i'd likely agree, except I wasnt born. But from what I hear about Seattle... Cant think why that would prefered over DSM with all their troubles the last few years.
