Thank you, Teacher, for guiding us through your intuitive approach to these songs. I feel like I’m learning how to play these individual songs in highly rhythmic melodic styles that seem authentic to their authors, and also how to seek more natural flowing finger patterns for any song I play.
Thanks Cliff, fantastic video. I too have been playing this forever. I now have so many new ways to play and approach it. I love playing the dead because there is so much room for improvisation. Keep up the great work.
Thanks kindly, it's all just learning tiny bits at a time.... getting the chords, then reducing them to partials and having runs between them that start to support the melody.
Great stuff, Cliff. I've been in a rut with FOTD playing it basically the same way for a long time. So many ideas packed into this video to keep my creativity going with it. I have a lot to work on, but this gives me so much to build on. Thanks so much.
Between Bobby and Jerry and Phil there is always off-beat! Its why standrd country rock bands make such dull covers of the dead, they put everything in its normal place!
THANKS CLIF! I've been playing this song for ages. Has always been a favorite, but I rarely get it "just right." This has really helped me improve on it. Grazie mille!
@@vedantus Hey Clif, how about some soloing tips on Valerie? That's a really good one. FYI - someone recently put up this interview with Jerry for the San Jose Mercury, which I think you might like to hear: th-cam.com/video/GC-ZRAAQG84/w-d-xo.html Put a smile on my face. Thanks, Scott
What is the name of the song that you bust into around the 5 minute mark on the g chord with the pulloffs? It's one of the first shuffles I learned how to play on electric. Maybe Doobie Brothers?
I feel like videos like these will always be growing over time because people are always looking to play great music like this.
We certainly hope so!

Couldn't ask for a better summary!
Thanks for once again generating a plethora of interesting ideas on a tune I've been playing for years.
SO glad to share!

@@vedantus Are you taking suggestions? I would love to see a breakdown of Jack-a-Roe or Peggy-O.
@@dnewhous Have you seen this? th-cam.com/video/vLtQM5nNung/w-d-xo.html Its old and rudimentary, but might hold something...
Such a beautiful song and one of my favorites I really enjoy how you break it down Incredible 👍
It was one of dad's favorites too, along with ripple
very nice and this song is also very nice to convert into some flatpicking with some rolls.
No doubt, very versatile song, fast , slow, acoustic , electric...
Please please do a full guitar cover!
Fantastic off beat, as an addition to main line. Great job, much appreciated.

Stumbled across this, great take on FOTD cant wait to try these, subbed
I recently added some new ideas to my FOTD and my recent work on Uncle John's adds into it... More phrasing, less shredding
