Thanks for sharing such valuable information. Personally, as someone who lives oversees, I probably wouldn't go the route of building. But would love to own a house, preferably in a gated community in 🇯🇲.

It is Iso encouraging seeing how these houses are being constructed as opposed to the U.S. where they go up 3-6 months, parts are built off site and the minimum cost is $500K. I feel confident that the construction will withstand the elements.

Digging the foundation is done by the running foot. So if the foundation is 10 feet long then that is 10 running foot. It cost me $450 jmd per running foot. So Digging 10 feet of foundation 3 feet deep is around $4,500 jmd. Each column is done at around $1,500 per column because the columns are dug a bit deeper and wider. So it could cost around $25,000 to give the foundation of a 10 by 10 room. Bless

Stellar information as always...real time. Would suggest stating the sq ft foundation or number of room details...that way persons can compare or extrapolate based on their unique scenario..keep up the great work. Infor on labor vs premix saving 100k was valuable.

Hi my family. Thank you very informative. I've always thought that it is better to hire job workers instead of days workers. Cuz if you are not there to watch the days workers daily they tend to linger on the job knowing that you will still have to pay them for the day. Loving the progress though, keep it coming.

Someone who does construction told me the men can evenly spread out the concrete mix on the ground and make a few "holes" all over in the mix. Fill with water and leave it to soak in. It will save the guys the excess mixing and they will just have to shovel into buckets after. Hope this helps save time and project goes well. 🙏🏾🇯🇲🇹🇹

Bwoy sa mi glad me build longtime because its very costly now ... but if you doing anymore casting time for example when you cast the floor inside or your having a deck slap roof hire a cement mixer with an operator it much cheaper and it cut down the men an it won't create alot of mess and it take up less space but traditionally they will object because everybody ah look ah food but I did a decking on my house last year June I put my foot down from day one and told My builder concrete mixer me ah use 😆 cause in hindsight its alot quicker and less to payout when u done

Loving this video thank you for sharing esp the figures you provided as a guide. I have a project to deal with in the countryside and these numbers are helpful. My project is not as big as yours and the blocks are almost at the 10 block height. I just need to have it brought up more to cast the cement roof. But while planning for this, I decided to add on a double garage, room, bathroom, laundry room and storage on the other side of the house and tie all that in with the back varandah. Very helpful, thank you.

I admire your both in what you are doing in JA. However, you have gone with the traditional method of construction, which is the only method builders/masons know. You were going through the cost element of coming out of the ground. Watching the video, I can see that the building is subdivided into the various rooms. Each room needs foundations, steel and concrete. This is a total waste of money. With a modern design and materials now available in Jamaica all that is needed is foundations for the external walls. The floor is going to be concreted anyway so the internal walls can be constructed by using steel track and studs. Depending on the roof design or if you are going up another floor, beams placed in the correct position with be adequate support the upper floor or roof. The strength of the building is in the belting, not the internal walls.
The advantages of modern design and construction are, quicker construction time, the cost of materials are far way cheaper ( no ruff cast, rendering blocks, steel, foundations etc).
Not only is a modern design more cost effective, but a building with less concrete walls is much cooler. Internal walls also stores heat which is released at night. This is why most Jamaican houses are so hot.
I will continue to follow you building progress. I am still very proud of you both. Well done, keep up the good work.
