- What's up guys, in this video I finally get around to installing my Dee Zee tailgate assist shock on my 2013 Ford F150. This was a super easy install that anyone can do with a few basic tools. If you want to grab on of these kits yourself, I put an amazon link to the one I used below, but they offer these things for all makes and models! Any purchases made through the link help fund future videos, so I appreciate everything you guys do. Thanks for watching!

I just installed mine on my 09 F150 and love it. Took less than 15 minutes
Wow, didn’t know this could be done. Just ordered one. Was looking up videos as to why my cooking fan was LOUD, and this came up. Thanks!
Lol, sorry I couldn't help fix your fan.
it was super simple indeed. Thanks for the video, it helped watching it before I started.
That’s awesome, I’m glad it helped.
It’s a little different on a 2020. Great video
This a game changer!! Thank you for this video!!
I just installed mine. Really like the function of it.
Yeah it’s nice, sometimes I forget it’s there and I still try to drop it by hand
Excellent video thanks.
Nicely done...thank you
Just installed mine, took about 10 min total time!
Good Job 👍
Just did one on my 2014 F150. Funny thing is text a couple of buddies the same thing..."10-15mins to install". Good video. Went with a different one that had a handle welded to a nut for the ball joint on the tailgate itself, but same concept.
Where did you find it I am looking did one for my 2013 f150 due to the comments, I've seen that state that because the hole on the truck is too big the but vends over time due to the weight of the tailgate.
@@XBX4L Got mine on Amazon. Here is a link to it.

Thanks. Help[ed a lot.
Good stuff
Thanks!
Got me squared away!!😊
Thanks, I can do it
I use the tailgate to build my biceps ;)
As you should
My Ram’s tailgate is getting too heavy for me to lift at 67. I want an up assist.
Just installed mine 10 minutes! $14.00 from Amazon. No lock stuff needed!
I ordered a similar one but the cable binds on it with the strut. Not enough room. They are all pretty much the same, regardless of brand. I think my damn truck has beefier cables. The shrink wrap near the loop on mine looks like it’s twice as big as yours.
Oh well. I have a 2013 FX4. I put one on a 2019 F150 with zero issues. But my 13 sucks lol.
I was wondering if you had any problems with the cable? I put one on my truck and the cable seems to get in the way. I have to put it between the strut and the bed and make sure it doesn't pop out when I shut the gate.
Mine never had problems with the cable, but the strut attachment eventually failed.
I bought one from Ronin Factory. Installs the exact same way. But mine moves sooooo slooooow....
Does yours lower at any different rate of speed when it’s cold outside?
I’ve never noticed it moving faster or slower based on temperature
Now on to the jockey box assistance shock.
Never heard of it, is that a different brand?
I'm trying to determine if the newer tailgate engage with the backup camera in the handle will fit my 2010 truck
Probably not but they sell conversion kits
It’s a tail gate lowering assist... does it help with the weight of the tail gate while you lift up though? Thanks!
I wouldn’t say it helps lift the tailgate, but the shock doesn’t make it any harder to lift, it just softens the opening.
That sucks had me excited for about 30 seconds
I'm assuming this helps deter stealing the tailgate too right?
Not so much, the dampener comes off pretty easy. The only real security is keeping your tailgate locked.
And what components exactly are different between the win the standard F154 by 4 and the FX4 package and then I saw another one the other day that was a sport 4 by 4 pack
What ones did you see. That maybe the issue I am having. I ordered one and I think my cables are beefier than the this truck. I have an FX4 and the cable is too thick to give the strut and the Mount room to move with out hanging up on each other.
How did it hold up?
When it cold it takes my tailgate 2 weeks to fully open..
.how's yours?
Mine didn't have that issue, but the tailgate assist eventually broke.
There is a torsion bar there for that on the fx4.
Does this mean it won't work for fx4?
My truck was an FX4, maybe he's talking about the new trucks that have it as a factory option.
@freakfiveoh my truck is like yours. It's a 13'.
There is a bar that runs through the bottom of the tailgate and it twists as you raise or lower the tailgate, it takes the weight out of it forsure.
Sometimes they break also.
Also if the newer bumper will fit my truck
What kind of ratchet were you using?
I just have a basic Craftsman set, and I think I might have used one of their ratcheting wrenches as well if I remember correcty.
If the star seems stuck any remedies
Not sure what you mean, it's been a while since I made this video.
Just installed mine, but it goes down extremely slow. Nothing like yours in the video.
Is your tailgate aluminum? Just speculating, but if it doesn't weigh as much, that could explain a slower fall.
I'm not satisfied with any tailgate "assist" that only does HALF the job. Looking for one that will let the tailgate down slowly AND assist to lift it back up to close it! Are you aware of any such thing?
As of right now, I haven’t seen anything like that. Some newer trucks have that option, but it uses an electric motor to lift the tailgate.
@@freakfiveoh ty
Flip the shock around the other way, and it will assist in closing the tailgate. That's what I did on mine.
Broke the bolt because I torqued it don’t torque it lol not necessary now
I have to find order another ball joint and the thing that goes in the tailgate fml
Ugga duggas are dangerous
Having hard time with snapping it together
Why just one?
Seems to be all it needs honestly
Awesome, thanks for the response
@@sst6555 Always use two, don’t want any more children !!!
Can you install two of them ?
Not to my knowledge. This kit I used states it can only be used on the drivers side of the truck.
@@freakfiveoh why isnt it identical? I tried a putting it on a long time ago, and had the nursert strip or something, and the round head would freely spin and not hold on. I want give a second try but I need another nursert. Do u know where I can get one?
Lies. This pinches the cable on my 2013. I took it off immediately. I'd rather have my safety cable intact.
I dunno what to tell ya, I never had any problems with the cable on mine.
@@freakfiveoh mine is pinching between the ball of the cylinder and the bed door. I had to force it shut. Every video I've seen so far, no one shows the initial closing of the tailgate... They just cut to it being closed.
