- After backing off the ignition timing by a guessed amount in an effort to improve starting and running to a point where it might be worth getting the strobe out, it was time to try starting the engine again. Once I am happy with the timing, I will fine tune the throttle stop and mixture screws on the carburettors, but first things first!
Great work again Paul .Wish my bike sounded like that lol. I will keep at it until i get it right .Thanks to your streams on the bike i can now have a serious go at my bike. Many thanks 👍👍👍.
Now THAT is what you want. Easy start from the first good kick. Nice one Paul
Thanks 👍
G'day Paul, the bike sounds great it already close to the timing being right 👍, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Don't forget to check that clutch slip.
Sounds great Paul
Thank you!
That bike sounds great when you rev it!
She sounds happy now Paul.
That sounds great. What a difference overall 👍
That sounds brilliant… well pleased with that.. light at the end of the tunnel it seems . I’m going to join you with a cup of tea.. 😂 .. well done Paul I knew you could do it..
Thanks!
hi Paul sounds bang on now thats good news for you time and hard work paying off mate cheers to you mate
Thanks Paul
Another demonstration of superb skill and modest with it !
Thank you!
She is sounding good! Your timing is close if not spot on!👍
That's heck of a lot better it goes to show when it's right it's right. Sounds a lot more settled and happier carb balance and strobe tweak 👍coming along. Well done "Proper Job".
Thank you!
Well done Paul, enjoy your well earned coffee.
Nice one Paul, congratulations.
Many thanks!
I have a 56 interceptor, it doesn't have the manual ignition adjuster. It is soo difficult to start. I think I have the timing off. That sounds fantastic
Well done
Thats a lot better paul 👍
Thanks!
There’s a household screw wire connector by the battery. Not the end of world but possibly indicative of some less than durable wiring solutions. One up from a blue block!
Not quite as bad as having a coach bolt replacing a constantly blowing fuse that I saw in a Yamaha xj 600 worked on by an ' experienced mechanic '.
@ when you’ve run out of silver foil, the old get you home coach bolt
Thanks, I will take a look!
Night and day or what!? Real progress there. The owner's not going to recognise his engine.
That sounds crack on to me, sounds good mechanically too, you don't hang about. you soon sorted that bike out!
Just curious why they did not put handed carbs on instead of a chopped one ???
They did a little later, but mirror image versions of the Amal 389 - the 689 are hard to find and no longer made.
Thanks for that Paul
World of difference. Recurrent theme is this screwed up overly advanced timing.
Did they use a strobe originally to time the ignition?
Not originally, as you don't have to use a strobe with points.
Again thanks Paul
I think that's what they call an Educated guess.
