Purge I truly believe Ive seen one of the most closest match in my short span of my DOTA life. Kudos to the other team for providing a hard time for you guys. I like how you come in terms with your blood lust and that slark isnt so much cut up to be against 1v2 especially when theres omniknight. Even when you know you don't use your ulti as often as you should, this game right from start had me hooked, I believe this is one of the more exciting game i've seen you play. Fking love it when you go for the bash item to dominate most enemies. AND FKYEAH TO KILLING STORM!! Sincerely, A fan.
***** Erherm... "Ugly" is per definition not something that is a fact or a constant, but more a judgemental word.. So if Slark's race find other beings ugly, in comparement to themselves, you can't really say it's irony..
This is my favorite Purge first person commentary so far....this is what voice comm means in games...super teamwork. At first I thought the guy was wayyy too talkative, but as the game goes on...
This is accurate. I watched a lot of slark games today in the Western Qualifiers and he looked imba as hell. Not sure why I didn't see it earlier, but playing him ~5 times in the last 2 months has changed my mind about him a moderate amount, but I didn't realize just how hard he counters so many enemies.
Agreed. I play a lot of slark, and detection has little to no impact if you can pounce out of bad situations. plus, once you have his ult you can know where their sentry wards are, which makes detection harder to use because his dark pact removes dust.
if you trigger manta quick enough, it can dispel certain point target spells, sorta like a linkens. Also, on other heroes, it works like dark pact where you can takeaway negative debuffs (dust or slows)
I would say he doesn't understand how to play at an average level seeing as most of the games I play in people understand the importance of not splitting XP. Also glad you played another Slark game, one of my favorite heroes.
A few things about Slark. -No, his regen does not go off if you are visible during the ulti. -Purge, around the 38:00 minute mark, where you think they have wards everywhere, this is not true; when you are hit by a neutral creep, your ulti's passive is disabled for a few seconds. -Shadow Blade is one of the best items you can get on Slark, as enemies will not see you coming, and it will result in fewer missed pounces since you can stroll right up to them. You could make this instead of SnY
It's just that many people don't understand the concept of "carrying", and it's understandable. In pubs it's just a matter of who ganks more, and snowballs harder (tusk pun intended), you could roll a 5-man ganker team and still win. In HLgames teams actually have a composition and require communication and teamwork, which low-level players don't actually have, and don't forget about the concept of 'carrying' a game. Absolutely no one on the trench (except smurfs) knows how to/can carry a game.
Couldn't agree more. Not to mention that the old butterfly/BkB build is also effective depending on the game. His only downfall is the mana cost for his skills; it can be really annoying in the early stages of the game.
if you farm a lot in pubs early on with slark, try a mask of madness. the synergy with slarks ult is just so great, since most people dont buy dust that early in the game and you can still purge it with dark pact. MoM grants you a lot of essence stacks, which results in more damage, attackspeed and then even more stacks ;) it makes you the perfect ganker and you just eat supports
He explained it in the video, Purge is right, when you play support in a trilane (which I do) you have to try and get exp from jungle/ganking and rarely laning. Also never steal last hits... your carry needs them not you
I agree its not a huge deal, but ppl will mind, and producing better content is important for the viewers and purge aswell, as a commentator producing something better to be proud of is encouraging, even if some may say the video is fine, getting something even better out is much more satisfactory
He honestly does not have much mana problems. I can play him mid role with bottle treads and wand and never need a mana regen item for the entire game(other than bottle). Orchid is mana regen overkill. You get orchid for damage, but more importantly for better solo killing potential.
Just want to point out that while pouncing, Slark is immune to damage, so he can neutralize projectiles if Pounce is used correctly - for example if Sniper is assasinating you and you pounce right when the shot lands, it does exactly nothing but an interesting animation.
Slark is one of my favourites, and the hero I started with when first playing Dota. If Sentry Wards are getting you down, I recommend a Necronomicon. DIY counter-warding
He's doing his thing, I dig the mustache, let him be him, everyone is so concerned about his looks, look at the gameplay and let him worry about how he wants to look
some people give purge a hard time and they only point out his faults but i feel in this game there were some moments where my jaw dropped at how pro purge is. Wp purge
I used to get S&Y too on slark. Thing is it's cheaper, with cheaper items to make and very useful early game, with maim and makes you run faster in the shadows than you already do. Skadi is like a luxury item you usually make it after at least 2 core items you really shouldnt make it early because aside from its prize its not that useful early. But I do get it later love it.
Very exciting game, I don't know how you can play with someone nattering at you the whole game, regardless of the rightness or wrongness of what's being said, but you really used it to help you play better, that's pretty awesome.
Thing is, his fury swipes is an attack modifier which, of course, would not stack with diffusal blade. This is why Vlads is picked up which is life steal without being a modifier. As for the slow, it's pretty good, but that's what earth shock is for
If you add an additional mic to record the guys in the other room, you can mix the signal with your mic, but reverse the phase, and it will cancel most of their audio from your feed
The point of a support in lane with a carry is to help him/her get the farm needed to do his/her job (carry). Letting the carry get last hits and XP is part of that, even if it means the support gets less gold/XP as a result. The overall value of a farmed carry far outweighs a farmed support, and by helping the carry a support player is contributing to the overall success of the game. If you can't see why that is important, or don't like playing that role, it's better to play carry yourself imo
Slark is not the best carry out there, but it's really fun to play! Mid-late game you're running around in mad chases, hit and run, go invis and regen at the very last moment and come back after they dropped their bombs, you can get REALLY big with the passive stat leech... You're not going to get bored.
Treads aren't the only good boots on Slark. Phase are really great too. Makes your pounce much easier to set up and makes you super fast once you get your ult. Also makes it easier for you to last hit when you're doing a carry Slark.
If I had to guess, it would probably be because they don't have much for him to need to purge. Typically you want diffusal blade not only for the mana burn, but also for the ability to purge debuffs, which is really nice to have.
There weren't many gank opportunities, and NP could always help. The dual-lane top would be pretty dangerous to gank, SS is nearly impossible to kill without an orchid, he can't kill NP in the jungle, and he did kill clockwerk. He's also given safe-lane farm, and is probably his team's best chance at a late-game carry.
I sometimes watch his videos, mainly because he always has some closer look on new heroes added, but after playing Dota for a while and watching high level plays I realized he is really far behind from Purge's level and much more aggressive towards fellow teammates if mistakes happen. He is an okay player like me, understands core mechanics but needs a team to function better. And blind and raging fans are always annoying regardless of where they come from :)
threads and diffusal is pretty much quintessential for slark, a built in slow can really give you a few more hits and maybe another nuke. lifesteal isnt that needed on him since your ulti is your failsafe heal. after manta, you can build him sort of like a carry, (dps items/crits) or else bkb if you need the lockdown/magic immunity
Beause Feedback from DB, as well as Fury Swipes, is an Orb Effect. Orb effects cannot work at the same time (on the same hit), with the built-in one always overriding the one from any item, meaning Diffusal Blade would never work on Ursa unless he is somehow dumb enough to not learn his most powerful early-game skill. The only case an orb eff item would work on a hero with such skill is if the effect can be toggled (Drow arrows) or an item can be activated (MoM/Satanic I think).
Purge I have a friend who wants to master morphling and I believe your videos will be able to help him. Also, I'm pretty sure many people want you to play morphling as well so they can learn how to correctly use morphling.
Similar to Clinkz you should max Pact next after Pound and split push like a freaking monster. With orchid you have infinity mana. So dont max E (Essence Shift). Other items to have are Skadi (if you dont go Diffusal Blade) and Basher (any which can be first) into Satanic (or MoM) or Butterfly or Crit... Shadow Blade is super good on him IF you think you can skip BKB. It gives an arguably insane stat for low price. I hope to see more enjoyable Slark games (and morphling!)
I think you get enough attack speed with the passive agi increase, if you have threads you should do fine. Tanky items allow you to survive their nukes, leech some stats, get out of sight to regen and come back bigger and stronger, rinse and repeat. Maybe if you're going for an early-midgame ganking build attack speed is fine, it should give you great solo kill potential, but I don't think you'd survive big teamfights if you get focused.
I remember a while back Purge was like "Slark is a terrible hero." and there was a top comment then which said something along the lines of "I want to see his face when it gets picked in the competitive scene." Well my guess is his face was more or less like this: :| Also, Slark counters Bat pretty nicely in lane.
Purge, what do you think of Lothars on Slark? I found it to be a fun and funny situational item that gives him a pseudo-ultimate at half the cost, all while giving him the stats he needs (extra damage, attack speed for Essence Shift, as well as top movespeed). I also noticed that I can land very good leaps when I have my Windwalk up, so I was wondering if this item has any viability on Slark, aside from his main item build.
Mana really isn't a big problem on Slark. It usually takes at most one pounce to get a kill off squishy heroes (two for the more tankier ones) and friendly arcane boots will easily provide enough mana for a single pounce to dark pact combo.
there's also the fact that orchid is very situational. yes, it does stop the storm from doing anything, but what about the other 4? you have to build according to team composition, not according to a rock hard meta like what league has.
I'm not great, but I haven't seen anyone answer so let me try. My guess is that it either wasn't important enough to bring them to low mana, or he didn't need the purge (active on the item, slows enemies a ton) to kill them in a gank usually.
1) Aside from weaver, slark was the only carry potential purge's team had 2) Giving your carry an advantage over the other teams heroes by XP and Gold gives you a much higher chance of winning 3) Sure rubick and warlock benefit from being level 6, but not as much as slark would. They could have roamed or pulled more in order to get XP and gold. 4) You're probably that guy who picks brood, farms the whole game, never pushes, and screams I'M THE HARD CARRY!!!! all game. Good day sir.
I find slark is really op as long as the other team doesn't have bs, bh, or slardar. He has good movement speed, better strength then most agility carries, is highly mobile, can remove stuns and debuffs if used correctly, amazing healing for staying in lane and when dipping in and out of fights, and has good presence throughout almost the whole game with dark pact and pounce giving early damage and essence shift giving him amazing snowball potential. As if he wasn't amazing enough he also has 1800 day AND night vision. Also he says the best things ever. I just wish he was ranged :)
Guess that guy in the video was sticking to that one quote without any deeper understanding. If he and warlock were pulling properly without sapping exp (thus giving purge more levels), they would probably kill clock several more times and reached lvl6 faster. Also, he still could farm mid with fadebolt without much trouble, just casting it and backing off.
Well, the Rubick did have a point about sapping xp in lan to get lvl 6. Even Kuroky said that Rubick needs level 6 quickly in order to roam effectively.
They don't do it every game. Purge also does a lot of support games, but when he's a carry that's what your supports are supposed to do...they let you get the farm. When he supports, he does the same thing.
At 11:30ish he got ganked bot and didnt know who was porting in. If you dont know, it shows the player color in a circle around the area where he is porting. Even on short ports, I always check to see who is coming. Could be an easy kill sometimes.
basically for bot you just want to not push. deny when possible only hit creeps to last hit. if a support aggros their creeps your going have to throw a few hits onto yours bec that after a while if not balanced out will push the lane. its ok if you accidentally pull their creeps into your tower bec then the wave will reset right in front of your tower. you dont want to bec hitting under tower is harder. mid its always gonna be going back and forth on hills just play accordingly
Hey purge, it would be really helpful if you explained your item choices during game. Like in this game, you said diffusal blade wasn't needed against these heroes. As a noob I don't know why. Good game though, really enjoyed it. :)
Purge, I really think you should have rushed the BkB first over anything else. Usually I would have just purchased an Orb of Venom over Sange for the chasing potential and moved on to BkB. Sure the Sange does give some extra health and the maim is pretty good, but it's chance based and rushing the BkB would be really worth it as apart from Nature's Prophet, the other sources of damage they had were mostly magical damage, and you would have taken far less damage with the magic immunity.
This is not entirely true. He can do quite well early-mid game without farm. He's a competent solo offlane because his skills give him quite a bit of damage and his escape is good.
One more, what about Diffusal Blade versus a Warlock? Diffusal also gives great stats for slark, and the Purge (haha!) can help you get away if you get dusted. Also, a free 130 gold whenever warlock ults is a nice addition to the item.
Purge I truly believe Ive seen one of the most closest match in my short span of my DOTA life. Kudos to the other team for providing a hard time for you guys. I like how you come in terms with your blood lust and that slark isnt so much cut up to be against 1v2 especially when theres omniknight. I've been watching your videos one month now, and I love the gameplays and your commentary, keep up the good gameplay!
I always really enjoy your videos! Keep them coming. You have the best dota 2 content on the internets.

Hell yeah I'm so lucky Purge made a Slark video again, thanks Purge
"1 second to think and we have eternity to judge" That is a very nice way of looking at it :)
Damn you purge, I needed this video yesterday. Randomed Slark and wasn't sure how to build him. :)
would bloodseeker be a good counter to slark because of the vision? I feel like slark would just become useless once he couldn't regen when low...
A few things about Slark.
-No, his regen does not go off if you are visible during the ulti.
-Purge, around the 38:00 minute mark, where you think they have wards everywhere, this is not true; when you are hit by a neutral creep, your ulti's passive is disabled for a few seconds.

So rare to see a hard carry prophet who truly pwns everyone. Also, gg Purge, too bad the supports didn't know what they were doing
Diffusal helps you set up pounces. Also the mana burn on it plus the essence shift makes slark drain mana really fast.
Thing is, his fury swipes is an attack modifier which, of course, would not stack with diffusal blade. This is why Vlads is picked up which is life steal without being a modifier. As for the slow, it's pretty good, but that's what earth shock is for

A replay commentary from Purge's bedroom? Count me in.
threads and diffusal is pretty much quintessential for slark, a built in slow can really give you a few more hits and maybe another nuke.
lifesteal isnt that needed on him since your ulti is your failsafe heal.
after manta, you can build him sort of like a carry, (dps items/crits) or
else bkb if you need the lockdown/magic immunity
For future reference, the active on Slark's ult does give you the regen. At least according to DotA wiki.
Beause Feedback from DB, as well as Fury Swipes, is an Orb Effect. Purge drinking game ... Take a drink every time he says "too greedy"
Is there a specific time that purge streams or is it just whenever? Cause I can never catch his stream.
Purge I have a friend who wants to master morphling and I believe your videos will be able to help him. Also, I'm pretty sure many people want you to play morphling as well so they can learn how to correctly use morphling.
I will forever quite your ending. You have changed my view on many things similar to this.
22:10 "WHY WOULD YOU GO IN!!!??" *kills 3 people*
Purge: "almost always get pounce level 1". Slark: "you sure?"
Purge usually has 2-3; LD, Godz, and sometimes Lumi. They won't be there for too much longer, since their studio is getting close to being finished.
That teamfight at 30:00 was impressive
Similar to Clinkz you should max Pact next after Pound and split push like a freaking monster. With orchid you have infinity mana. So dont max E (Essence Shift). slark is my major hero
and i like the way you play it
Purge, what do you think of Lothars on Slark?
Great, was hoping for a long game. Now I can safely make food and still have a game to watch when its finished. :)
there's also the fact that orchid is very situational. yes, it does stop the storm from doing anything, but what about the other 4? you have to build according to team composition, not according to a rock hard meta like what league has.
Personally love orchid on Slark :) gives mana regen attack speed attack damage and the silence+pounce leaves people more or less helpless
I'm not great, but I haven't seen anyone answer so let me try.
My guess is that it either wasn't important enough to bring them to low mana, or he didn't need the purge (active on the item, slows enemies a ton) to kill them in a gank usually.
This game was so high level. So intense and fun to watch. Really great gameplay. lol :P
Yes! I just started playing morphling and would love to see how to play him effectively.
He played it in Round 1 or 2 of the staff cup, you can watch it on his twitch account!
1) Aside from weaver, slark was the only carry potential purge's team had
2) Giving your carry an advantage over the other teams heroes by XP and Gold gives you a much higher chance of winning

I played with him after watching this video.
Unreal.
Purge, since you said Treads is the only way to go.
What do you think of aL miGGel's slark with phase+drums? it works pretty well so far
now that Purge is at Sea server, he should know what true hell is.
I find slark is really op as long as the other team doesn't have bs, bh, or slardar. Slark can dispell Track and Amplify Damage with his Dark Pact.
This game had me on the edge of my seat!
What MIC are you using!? Its nice
Purge: I shouldn't have ditch them so hard
Slark: Don't get caught ;)
~42 mins in. They had a ward sitting right near the stairs going up towards Radiant secret shop. Slark's regen turned off :)
you're pretty good with the item choosing... wise and quick
It's sometimes valuable to get phase boots so auto pathing around creeps doesn't ruin your pounce, though I prefer treads myself.
basher and mom on slark is insane late game attach speed with just yasha mkb = epic
is a mask of madness good on slark? it seems like it could get him a lot of stat steal really fast, which could help in the early/mid game.
Pretty exciting game u had there Purge. :) Well played.
This hero isn't one of the simpler heroes to learn when new to Dota 2. Maybe Drow Ranger or Sniper or somethin could be good.
He did. Incredibly clearly and in long detail, in the video you just watched.
One more, what about Diffusal Blade versus a Warlock? Diffusal also gives great stats for slark, and the Purge (haha!) can help you get away if you get dusted. Also, a free 130 gold whenever warlock ults is a nice addition to the item.
I miss Skeleton King :(
It's been a year ago since you upload your first game play using SK.
You don't understand how to play DotA at a high level if you think my complaints weren't valid.
