- Playing as Mexico in Victoria 3 presents an issue. You'll likely need a victoria 3 guide or a victoria 3 mexico guide to try to defeat the USA as Mexico because it's rather tricky. In my case, I played tall to build up our economy, then waited for the victoria 3 american civil war (or triggered it) to try to take victoria 3 texas. Perhaps I should play as texas next time! Victoria 3 war is still a bit iffy.

Laith, gold fields depleting is a *good* thing - it allows you to build gold mines
Read the thumbnail "Destino manifesto" and said to myself "why is Laith using Italian when playing Mexico?" Then I realized manifested destiny is written in the same exact way as both Italian and Spanish, god I love romance languages.

34:29 I imagine that the AI thought you had fewer troops than you did and didn't have the money reserves to fight a long war but after you held and started passing they were likely about to go bankrupt.
You've probably figured this out by now, but on the off chance someone sees this that hasn't: Gold mines don't deplete, but gold fields do. And when gold fields deplete, they leave behind unexploited gold mine resources- so every time you see a gold field deplete you can usually build several gold mines to replace it.
As an American, as long as we still got puffy beef tacos I'd be fine with this

In Brazil there are some states that have +20% to mining and +25% to hardwood output. I think you can turn them into economic powerhouse easier than Mexico. Also you can then turn Brazil into military power and try to conquer all of South America instead of going for countries in the midel east and attack evryone around you as you mentioned in the video. Since you will be conquering New Granada anyway you can build the Panama Canal too.

When you are looking at the trade screen, you can click on "Market Price" and it will sort everything into order by surplus/deficit. :)
Someone should make a mod where all it does is replace Lathe with something else…..or rename every tech to Lathe just to make him suffer.

Laith no cap I believe at this very moment you are one if not THE best Vic player on youtube, Its a new game for everyone and everyone struggles as this is a paradox game after all. But you take quite fast to it. To be fair I havent seen some streamers thats why i cant just say the best.

Not sure what kind of 'understanding' I should derive from that besides him only understanding the most basic of basics about the game.

I'm sorry, but there has to be a better way than this. I'm not saying he did bad, hell, he did pretty good with his economy and bashing the US, but he is nowhere near the best player this game has as the OP seems to be implying... Which is logical considering his lack of experience with Vic 2.
@@maelos61 only about 5 so yeah sample size is small and im not saying Leith is playing optimal but i just see a lot of ppl struggle and somehow he gets there. Its a bit how he runs EU4 total chaos which is bad, but also manages to save very bad situations. And that imo is just proof he's a good player. Most of the times he's fully aware hes fcking himself up (at least in EU4).
@@triplesharigan Fair enough, just watched a Redhawk video and he sure as hell is floundering more... Then again, he hasn't looked up any guide or info on the game by choice, so that's maybe not the kindest comparison. I just really hope that Vic 2 youtubers (don't really know any, but they have to exist, right?) understand the game better, because if Laith is peak understanding of the game at the moment, there's something deeply wrong with it haha.

Guerilla warfare is not what stopped Mexico from reclaiming Texas, the US involvement is what stopped Mexico from retaking Texas. And I say "US involvement" loosely since Texas was as real a nation as the Peoples Republic of Donetsk in Russian Controlled Ukraine is at the moment. Keep up the fun videos! cheers.
One of the things I dont see you do as much as you could is build your Industry taller in this game. There is a modifier in the game where for every level of an industry in a state past the first one it improves the throughput by 1%. Now that might not seem that impressive but what that means is that if you have say 40 textile mills in a province (preferably your capital because it has increased infrastructure and gov. cap.) the same amount of people use 39% more ressources and produce 39% more clothes.
I think at the start of the game the bonus is capped at 20% and is increased by economy of scale techs.
With this trick you need less buildings for the same amount of Industry which increases productivity which increases wages (assuming there is a demand for what you are producing).
The chances of per capita taxation failing that many times was roughly 20%. This isn't the most accurate number as I rounded but it's close enough
So you probably already know this laith but, urban centers can use transport (the ticket thingy produced by railroads) to produce services, that said you have to set them to do so same goes for electricity.

Hey Laith, the game profit prediction does not take into account goods substitution, so swapping ranches to slaughterhouses can actually be really profitable because people will veer and use it as their luxury good fulfillment or even basic food fulfillment. Also if you're industrialising like crazy and grain is getting expensive it's 10 times better to kickstart a food industry to funnel your market with groceries that people will eat instead of relying on grain

This is a really good example of somebody running into the population cap and not understanding why his economy struggles.
If your buildings have no staff they will not produce goods and if your state does not have enough workers to staff all buildings in it they will start competing for workers. These two facts combined is what stagnated the economy several times here, he focused so much on Infrastructure that he ignored pop and overburdened his states.
The issue usually fixes itself over time as Peasents become laborers but that is only if you don't build new stuff.
The annoying thing about passing laws....you can't save scum them either. I think the diceroll for the event (pass or event) is actually rolled at the START of the counter not at the end. I save scummed right before the deliberation was up on a law that had an 81% chance to pass.....got an event instead. Reloaded 5 times, the same event triggered every time. So either I had the worst luck possible, or they specifically designed the system to flip the bird to people trying to save scum laws.

Passing Laws is the Siege Mechanics of Victoria 3...
Little trick: You can convert an economy without tanking it by doing it more granular. In this situation, you could have built a coal mine, a steel plant, and as soon as it opened swap over one of your tool factories to use steel. Then keep doing all three, whichever is more in demand.
Go big or go home!

IIRC, the french GDP rises so quickly, because they have a province that functions as a treaty port in india, giving them access to either the india or british market (not 100% sure on which one), which basically allows them to overtake the british as the brits do not have access to the french market.

Doing a Prussia - North German Federation - Germany run at the moment and at one point I was like, lets do some colonizing. The French decided to colonize next to me so borders looked horrendous. At one point I declared on them to rectify those colonial borders and I ended up tanking their GDP, having them go from 200mill+ to lower than 160mill and having them end up losing both Brittany and Occitania.
That was fun since the French are the only military that could beat me consistently on the field and now they lost large portions of their French lands in Europe while only having a measly 80mill GDP.

I would like to see a bit of a more detailed tech tree, Vic 2 separated the army and navy, really want to see that come back. Sounds like an idea for a mod. If you can micro your factories, you should be able to micro your ships as well just like Hoi 4
The Army and Navy are technically already separate as there are two distinct tech trees in the military tech tab.

I would like to see if any actually skilled Vic 3 players can do well as the Indian Territories? I have tried myself but in even my best attempts I remain stuck as a single split state with no more room to grow. I can't colonize the rest of Oklahoma faster than Mexico (in part because I.T. doesn't start with colonization unlocked), I can't declare any interests while I am subjected by the U.S., and I can't declare independence by any point I would actually be ready for it since the U.S. can increase my relations faster than I can damage them.
A Columbian "Coffee" Empire would be cool to see

How to defeat the US as Mexico: Make friends with the French and the Brits, expand south, easily incorporatable states and many puppetable countries to fuel your industrialization. Also focus on resource discovery techs, it helps tremendously with finding gold and extracting as much money from it.

The last half the video, man the game really needs to rework the American civil war and make it more railroaded like it was in Vic2. I find it so silly that the free states, especially PA & New York in particular abolishing slavery in 1780, revolting to keep the institution of slavery while the south becomes free states lol.
