I was about 11 at that time and sat next to a girl called Emma at school, we had gone through every class for 4 years sitting together and were good friends and we always used to talk about that 'monkey series'. Around this time we started fancying each other as well but when we finished junior school her parents took her to Australia to live so I never saw here again. Whenever I see clips of 'Monkey' I always think of her and wonder how her life turned out? Aah young love lol

I have pinned your comment at the top in the hope and fate that maybe one day Emma might just come across this video! Thank you for shareing that and wishing you a lovely Thursday! @@RetroReminiscing Aah thank you, yep I think she was the one for me but at that age I didn't realise. Its quite possible that she married and now has a different surname which is often an issue when tracking down the fairer sex. Her name was Emma Jane Wilson, and whenever she was in trouble for talking in class or not tidying up, I always told the teacher it wasn't her but was me. I got into so much trouble for her, but one teacher ( a female) kind of knew, and whenever I said "Miss, sorry that was my fault", the teacher just replied "Of course Gareth, because Emma can do no wrong can she"? lol. I really hope life worked out for her down under and she is really happy.

I was also 15 in 1981. Stuff like this is tinged with sadness when I think of all the Family that I have lost but it also makes me happy because it wasn't such a bad time in the early 1980's when everything was all to come in life... Sadly, there has been more time passed then there is left for us of this age.... Lol, this sounds depressing, enjoy every day and if you can't wake up stiff wake up with a smile. 😁

I also remember hearing tales form th eunexpected theme tune starting which would give me the creeps in a way as i always found t a strange peice of haunting music... I now actually love that theme tune and have it set as my ring tone! ha ha I really liked reading your memory related to the news and being all tucked up sage in bed hearing your parents not far away...all safe...and happy ...in those days too when we went ot bed, we actually went to bed to sleep ..not stare at a mobile phone for hours listening to music full of swear words in it ... W e took in and absorbed our surroundings more as we werent fixed to a screen...Thank you for your great comment and i those safe times too so much and would do anything to be zapped back even for 2 minutes in that front room with my parents and hug them again ....Have a great evening and sorry for your loss of your parents x Sonique

@@undividedorchestra She didn't say there was no use for tech or that she didn't use it herself, or indeed that she didn't use it willingly. Taking over lives doesn't mean it is entirely, or at all, without our consent. I would say that you rather support her point by using this example. We routinely use the internet whenever we are bored or curious, not to mention increasingly having to use it for every mundane little thing, taking over from physically going places or using the postal service. Obviously there are big upsides to that, but it means we are reliant on technology which is vulnerable to hackers and to imperfect internet connections (I don't lose my home internet connection as often as I used to, but I lost it briefly last night and this problem has been happening every so often in recent months). All kinds of services are being moved online, it is hard or impossible to do some things nowadays offline and so people are virtually forced into buying smart phones capable of using the latest software (I bought a £35 one 6 years back and it can't run the latest Android or whatever needed for various services). There are a couple of problems with that, the admittedly vague one of is it healthy for us, mentally or physically, individually or as a combined society, to be spending so much time on our phones, and also the more objective problem that the better phones cost a heck of a lot of money don't they, and income inequality has been rising for years and lots of people have little or zero spare cash to spend on gadgets. Though of course they sometimes do anyway, even to the neglect of basics like heating or good food, because we are otherwise effectively locked out of social circles or accessing/managing important services.

It's weird to think that programmes likes, 'Tomorrows World', held very little interest to me, back then, but watching that clip about answer phones with Judith Hann, really drew me in. They did have a lot of crap on TV, back then, but they also had a lot of good programmes, too. We certainly didn't have wall to wall options or coverage, though. We made the most of what programmes were on, generally speaking. Unlike now, where we're satiated with content to the point where there's so much to watch, but nothing worth watching. I suppose age is a factor, too. If I were the age I am now, but back then, I probably wouldn't have wanted to watch half the stuff I did watch, back in the day.

Certainly remember watching tomorrow worlds on a regular basis. Someone will correct me if I am wrong but have the feeling it was always on a thursday night after top of the pops, so about 8pm? I think television back then like most media it had more importance, due to it being one of the few ways we had learning about anything going on in the country and the world. Also will say that most television back then you generally watched as a family due to only having one tv, and it was a case of watch it while it was broadcast otherwise you would miss it as video recorders were not in every home.. good old keep fit tv’s as well, none of this change the channel with a remote control, physically getup to change it over… great video though and certainly brings back the memories for a lot of people. Doubt very much todays television will have the same sentiment for many in 40+ years time.

@@ricl7413 I believe Tomorrow's World was on at 7pm on Thursdays, then followed by Top Of The Pops at 7.30. There would be a sitcom on next or something like, 'Blankety Blank', then some other show up until 9pm for the News. Thursday evenings were a little bit special for me, back in the mid to late 70's at least, as it was the one night of the week when I was home alone. Everyone else had somewhere to go, so I could watch whatever was on offer. It was generally only a couple of hours, but it felt great to be able to have the TV all to myself, back then!
