There are people that have been playing longer than she's been alive that would kill to have bends and vibrato like that. What a gifted young lady. BRAVO !

There are many guitar tutors on TH-cam - this young lady is up there with the best of the best. Her approach is warm, friendly and watchable - not to mention the fact she is a proven master of the instrument with skills that appear (and sound) way beyond her years. More great vids please, brings joy 🙂

What I have always loved about this solo is how it sounds like a perfect blend of rock and opera. It's feels bluesy but also sounds like a violin concerto and that's what makes it such a great intro to the opera section of the song. This solo is one of the reasons Brian May is my favourite guitarist. Excellent video.

I am in awe! Her ability to play these phrases at various tempos and in different combinations, time after time, so accurately and with that tone, is stunning! That is amazing teaching technique on display. Thank you Ayla!

Ok, that was one of the best interpretations of that solo I've seen/heard. I'm not lying that sounded so good, the tone, the bends, specially that pre-bend at the beginning, that's something most guitarrists don't pay attention to. Awesome playing overall!

Please do... this was done for the people...But it wasn't Brian May who originated this solo...But he was given carte blanche to take it as his, The actual person who originated most of the music for Freddy was mentioned in the song "Kind of Magic" Freddy mentioned his first name when he says, "Hit it....(first name)... And the only way you can hear it is "Turn it Up" found on another Groups album... Lynyrd Skynyrd...? was his actual voice...Who knew...Nobody pays that close attention to the way music is founded...Mostly by Session musicians... and they never get the credit for the songs...

I like what you say about Brian May's playing, how it feels like every note is coming from his soul. I agree with you. A solo of his I'd recommend, that a lot of people might not be familiar with, is from the song You Don't Fool Me - released in 1995, after Freddie's death. It's a brilliantly constructed solo, and so expressively played, with such emotion and power.. It really is an example of every note feeling like it's coming from the depths of his soul.

You're so talented. You really give this solo the attention it deserves; I've heard other online tutors say it's pretty simple. I've listened to Queen since 'The Seven Seas of Rhye' came out, I never grow tired of this solo.

This was wonderful and incredibly well studied! I can see just how much love and care went into this - clearly a fan of Brian's playing and all of his emotional subtleties. He's known to say that the guitar is his voice, and emotion comes before technicality -- and it shows in everything he does. It's all in the feel of how the notes are played ... very well done!
I'm a long way off from playing his solos, but I'll be sure to return to this video once I've got a bit more practice under my belt! Thanks for the excellent breakdown!

Thanks for what you are doing. I most appreciate that you take the time to explicitly describe the subtleties that add to the feeling and "expression of emotion." I think it is important for aspiring guitarists to understand that simply playing the correct notes in the correct sequence at the correct time is not enough. Each phrase, and indeed each note has a shape, contour and voice that is every bit as important as playing the right notes. I wish more guitarists would be more discerning when learning and practicing so that the performance doesn't just sound like a bunch of rigid notes thrown together, but rather a "human outcry." You are absolutely helping with that, thank you.

Great playing...so young. I remember hearing this song in 1975 when I was only 12 years old...it absolutely blew my mind. Life changing actually, in terms of the music I listened to thereafter. When Freddie died, it's the only time I've ever cried over someone other than my family. For more Brian May extravaganza...listen to the albums Queen ll and Sheer Heart Attack, in particular.

♡ Back in '77, we caught both Queen & Thin Lizzy, with the late, Gary Moore...I still prefer TL, but I'm especially thankful I saw Queen during their more creative period.

Excellent solo choice and opportunity to discuss emotional content of a song *and* it’s solo, which seems to add more to what Freddie is so emotionally conveying. It comes at a point where there’s almost nothing more Freddie can
Say/sing, so it *demands* this solo to ‘cry out,’ and, it’s beautiful. Just pure emotional expression. Like the soul crying out.
You lesson is stellar. Flawlessly explained. I e seen so many solo covers and most just seem flat for the lack of proper vibrato and string bending. This is an advanced guitar solo. Playing the notes alone expresses nothing. This solo played correctly should nearly bring the listener to tears. Because if this song is a play, it’s certainly a tragedy and must be approached from a place of great pain. You nailed all of these elements, Alya. ❤️

Man, that tone was amazing. Rock on! For newer players, keep in mind that you certainly don't have to play a perfect, note for note recreation of a song or solo. If a particular part is too fast, feel free to experiment. More than likely you can drop a few notes and maintain the overall feel of the piece!

One of the most clearly notated and played transcriptions. The solo is split into 8 licks which greatly facilitates learning in chunks. These are wonderfully explained in a friendly manner against the original track, including some subtle Maysian bending tricks. I am wondering what light string set and pedal effect was used to imitate the original Queen sound? Thank you Ayla.

  • @hmwr0h
    @hmwr0h 2 ปีที่แล้ว

There's a mistake here on the first bend of the solo (on the 10th fret of G string) 2:40. The correct way is: you bend the note then you pick it again to go down to the F note before you pull it off to the 8th fret. So, you start off the solo picking the 8th fret of D string twice, then you pick the 10th fret of G string twice as well (one to bend it up and the second to bend it down) before pulling off to the D# (8th fret).
Another mistake is at 9:32 (and this is a very important one, in terms of melody). The end of the phrase *doesn't* end with 15th fret on B string then 15th fret on G string. It's not 15
17 15~. There's one note missing on what you're playing. This part ends with
    15
    17 17 - 15~.
    Last notes:
    *incorrect* : C - D - Bb
    *correct* : C - D - C - Bb
The third point is at the very ending 16:01: actually, after the C# (6th fret), Brian hammers the D (7th fret) then pulls off 2 more notes on the G string so then he lands on the 7th fret on D string like 6~ 7-6-4
    7.
You can clearly hear and confirm all that I've said by checking the isolated track of the original solo from the studio version and slowing it down to 0.5 speed.
