I hope for the next Smash Brothers (if there is another Smash Bros), the developers will update some of Sonic's moves to feature some of his attacks from the combat system of Frontiers.
He was basically a rushed, last minute character when Brawl was being made Yet they didn't bother changing the moveset... AT ALL Despite a lot of characters having changes to their movesets
I think his moveset is kind of interesting already, it is just boring after a while. Don't know why they had to give him two spin dash special moves though. The rest represents him well enough, but the modded ones are always cool, such as these and project M

I even think Brawl based Sonic on his appearance in 06. Sadly, that is my favorite Sonic ignoring the modded versions. Crusade might be my favorite(and maybe modded SSF2).
It does feel in character for Sonic to be this confident and cocky teenager, so his taunts from Brawl when he says “C’mon, Step it up!” And the ever iconic “You’re too slow!” really captures his personality to a tee! Imagine every time Sonic lands a successful homing attack, he does a trick off the opponent to style on them further? I especially love the touch of the mod that when Sonic loses, he is tapping his foot in frustration and impatience which also fits his personality 😂
I love how in his "clap" animation in the mod, sonic is very disappointed to lose, fitting better into his personality of a teenager who doesn't have as much respect for his rivals
Except for the fact that Smash Bros. is supposed to be a friendly competition, based off the fact that almost every character claps for their opponent's victories. Getting this pissed off by friendly competition is very unlike Sonic, especially his modern iteration.
Hard to pinpoint if he would get pissed off or not, but personally I don't think he would. Sonic is really carefree and chill, so I don't see him getting salty over losing in a friendly competition. Even when he lost at the Extreme Gear race against Jet in the beginning of Sonic Riders, he wasn't really angry. Sonic only gets genuinely mad when someone he cares about gets hurt, like with Shahra.

Something Superior to ultimate.. Even then, they would probably make a re-make to the 1st AND ORIGINAL super smash bros for N64 on 4K (Similar to MK1). With download content (Characters, music, and stages), online play, co-op story mode, co-op "Break the targets", co-op "Board the Platforms", Co-op "Polygon team", Only "boss stages speedruns", "Co-op/versus Homerun derby", additional content, etc.. Even some full games through the NES and SNES.. I'm sure this will break the banks. I would definitely spend a pretty penny on it.
Now this is the move set I was expecting for Smash Bros Ultimate. There could of been so many changes for Sonic's move set but I guess Sakurai didn't want any. It sure is good to have modders around to make those changes for use. Thank you to the person who made this masterpiece.
Sonic using the Sonic battle moves and side B beeing boost has gotta be some of my favorite implementations and the poses that he does mid attack always make him feel cooler
1:34 If Impa from Age of Calamity was in Smash, I guarantee you that would be her forward air that spikes opponents. She has the same forward kick in AoC when you use the standard-attack button while gliding in the air.
The mods changed the down smash, up air and foward air with better looking moves; so they're both better than the original just because of that for me.

Yuji UeKawa said that the reason the Sonic cast was redesigned is to suit the transition to 3D. Which makes it easier to use Sonic the Fighter moves. Besides we already have Ryu and Terry to represent fighting game movesets.

I've never owned a Genesis or any other SEGA console, but my 1st game that introduced me to the Sonic series was actually for either the GameCube or PS2 and it was Sonic Heroes and from there I became a huge Sonic fan, I actually owned the Gameboy ports of Sonic 1 and 2. Honestly I even own a few of the classic Sonic cartoons from the 90's on DVD, I even own the official Sonic Forces soundtrack too, I also own plush versions of both Sonic and Shadow that I won from the same claw machine. I also own a keychain version of Shadow, I also own a Sonic blanket too, I just got a Sonic figurine in my Easter basket this year. I also have a Sonic board game called Sonic Crash Course and I own about 10 Sonic games for both my Xbox and Switch.
The battle one looks how it should've been but my only problems with it is up grab looks a bit weird and his mouth doesnt change in his idle but thats just my opinion

Since Sonic is a platformer character, Sakurai feels that his speed and jumping is the most important. Sadly that means there's not much room for anything else. The reason Caption Falcon doesn't have this problem is he is because he's from a racing game. While Caption Falcon's mobility is good, Sonic's is superior. So instead of comparing Sonic to Caption Falcon. Compare Sonic to other platformer reps like Peach, Diddy Kong, and Kirby.

I like bits and pieces of all three, though. Surprisingly, I think Smash has the most bits I like. I think the Standard Air should be the Insta Shield and the Up Special the Cyclone Kick from Frontiers. I think Sonic's final smash should be the Light Speed Attack from Adventure.
Everything is great... except the losing animation. From my understanding, Smash Bros. is supposed to be a friendly competition, and that's why most characters clap for their opponent after losing. It's kind of unlike Sonic to get pissy over a friendly competition. The clap is completely in character, so idk why it's changed in the mod.
Battle version has the overall better fighting stance, but Modern in more certain things than Battle. The Side B option for Battle is pretty dope though. Either way, I would honestly download both version. If I only could choose 1 of the 2, it'll be Modern.
Unpopular opinion: some moves are actually better in the vanilla version. Specifically, down and back airs are better by allowing more options for descending and just taking less time so you can use it in succession. Up B's hitbox also gets in the way. I do appreciate the boost and moves like down smash.
Some thoughts: I don't like that they changed his up smash to a back flip up smash. The back flip up smash is the most common type of up smash in Ultimate, with so many other characters doing it, so I don't really get why they made his up smash LESS unique. The new down smash is cool. I don't think the old one was bad or anything, but the new one looks cooler. Modern's Nair makes the most sense. Jumping into enemies while in a ball was the main method of attack Sonic had in the classic games, so it makes sense that this would be one of his aerials, but default Ultimate's version looks weird. Again, I don't like that they changed his up air to a flip kick. It's way too common an up air among the cast, and his old one was more unique. His new Fair just looks weird...what was wrong with the old one? Modern's down air makes the most sense. Much more closely resembles the stomp, which has been present in a lot of the more recent Sonic games. New back air looks cool, but is probably less functional due to being a multi-hit and taking a long time to execute, thus making this a nerf. New side special being the boost makes sense. He doesn't need two spin dash moves, and the boost has been in a lot of modern games. While new up throw looks flashy, I like the idea of Sonic using his quills to damage opponents like he does with his old up throw, and I think the new one is TOO flashy given how up throws normally look. The new final smash is obviously an upgrade, but it would be even better if he got his Brawl final smash back.

Modern Sonic easily. The only change I would make is to put Ultimate’s up Smash on Modern.

Battle version has the overall better fighting stance, but Modern in more certain things than Battle. The Side B option for Battle is pretty dope though. Either way, I would honestly download both version. If I only could choose 1 of the 2, it'll be Modern.
I'm probably gonna get a lot of eyes for this. But I've never had a problem with Sonic's natural moveset at all but the mods are super cool!
Unpopular opinion: some moves are actually better in the vanilla version. Specifically, down and back airs are better by allowing more options for descending and just taking less time so you can use it in succession. Up B's hitbox also gets in the way. I do appreciate the boost and moves like down smash.
There are literally 2 difference that actually matter, the dash attack and side special.

Some thoughts:
I don't like that they changed his up smash to a back flip up smash. The back flip up smash is the most common type of up smash in Ultimate, with so many other characters doing it, so I don't really get why they made his up smash LESS unique.
The new down smash is cool. I don't think the old one was bad or anything, but the new one looks cooler.
Modern's Nair makes the most sense. Jumping into enemies while in a ball was the main method of attack Sonic had in the classic games, so it makes sense that this would be one of his aerials, but default Ultimate's version looks weird.
Again, I don't like that they changed his up air to a flip kick. It's way too common an up air among the cast, and his old one was more unique.

Modern's down air makes the most sense. Much more closely resembles the stomp, which has been present in a lot of the more recent Sonic games.
New back air looks cool, but is probably less functional due to being a multi-hit and taking a long time to execute, thus making this a nerf.
New side special being the boost makes sense. He doesn't need two spin dash moves, and the boost has been in a lot of modern games.
While new up throw looks flashy, I like the idea of Sonic using his quills to damage opponents like he does with his old up throw, and I think the new one is TOO flashy given how up throws normally look.
The new final smash is obviously an upgrade, but it would be even better if he got his Brawl final smash back.
