- The Axial SMT10 Grave Digger officially licensed by Monster Jam is back and badder to the bone. Axial and Horizon Hobby have improved upon the successful first release of the truck and made this one more capable out of the box. It now has a 12T 550 motor, Dynamite ESC, metal gears in the transmission, and Spektrum servo and RX/TX. They've kept the great looking chassis and body the same.
It's a 4wd solid axle monster truck, which has it's own unique handling that makes it more scale. Even with the improvements, they've still managed to reduce the price-which is amazing. It's now only $299 for the RTR.

Corrections to what I said: It’s an IC3 connector, but compatible with EC3 connectors for the battery. The motor us a Dynamite motor...not axial and the ESC is 60amp.

This Axial doesn't come close to competing against the new Losi LMT! At least in realistic looks. Can't wait to see them go head to head! It is cute tho!

What's the best motor and ESC combo for this truck
It needs a wider stance and wider tires
with the wider 2.6 tires, on the stance feels good to me. The stock tires do feel too narrow for it.
Tbh I just shortened the wheel base on mine and it's fine.
Lawrence Timme that would fix the scale look issue. The wider stance does help with rolling over though...which is nice.

I run 7.4 volt NiCa . You can also run Lipo. Be sure to switch the jumper on esc.

Am I right in thinking that if you want to run the 3s battery, you have to change the motor to at least 15 turns? Or would I need to get another ESC that is rated for 3s also?

The instructions say that it supports 2-3s battery, what's the max battery rates it can handle?
3s is only supported down to a 35T motor. 2S is supported down to the 12T it is currently running. So if this ESC was in a crawler with a 35T or 55T motor, you could run a 3s LiPo. Not with a 12T motor.
Finally order mine but im still going to need a battery kit for it Wich would be the best way too go with under a low budget

Man, this "cheaper and better" must make a lot of people cringe. Got mine at a discount, so with the upgraded (GPM) gears , I'm about on point with the price :p Yet, the continuation gives the relief needed to go ahead and go nuts with it. The chassis deserves to be a popular mainstay, just a cool design and base to work from. My fingers are itching to get the raw kit :p .

Hey Tony... Glad you guys that are into monster truck get the Smt10 back. Nice that horizon are listening to the community, now if they just rectify the radio issue with Dsmr compatibility or in some other way it would be icing on the cake.
Are the lower shock spring retainers like the axial crawler one's that can have the clamping lock screw fitted ?

Mick D thanks Mick! I’m with you on the DSMR to a degree, but it does bring the prices back up which makes it hard to compete on the market. New people in the hobby don’t understand why little things like dsmr would add cost...especially if they never open up the electronics box or upgrade their controller to a higher end one. So I understand their side too. I bought a $30 2channel Spektrum I can stick in if I want to bind to my Rugged.
Oops...forgot to answer the other question. It does not have a screw to tighten it. I lost several of them before someone told me the zip tie trick.
@@CCxRC I get it too, I try and look at every one's point and side of argument. I think by having a receiver that can bind to let's say the dx5c, it encourages an upgrade purchase to the better quality Spektrum, encourage's sticking with purchasing horizon vehicles, and supports those who have already purchased a premium spektrum radio.
Plenty of consumers complaining about stx2 radios. At least Traxxas, Associated, Kyosho and even cheaper bangood special cars all come with a much better stock radio I wouldn't probably change out..

That remote sucks, I would get another receiver and use it with a nicer remote, I learned the hard way with my kraton 6s that comes with that garbage remote
Can I ask what battery your running and how long an average run time is. I am running a 2s 5200 mAh and normally with my crawler and senton I get a solid hour but I ran it in my grave digger and got a maybe 30 minute run idk seems kinda short.
Help.. I live in UK where can I get a replacement SMT10 Grave digger shell from or son of a digger..

Nice vid but I hate this truck. A year ago I bought a brand new never opened one and I could've got over $600 for it all day long, then they had to go and raise it from the dead. Oh well lol! Hey did you get my stickers?
How can you make a 20 minute "review" video and now show it run aleast once?
chris A it’s not a review. It’s an unboxing. I follow up with a speed test and first run video separately. Its the only way I get things done based on the time I have available for youtube. I should at night, edit and upload. Run the next day at lunch then edit and upload at night. If I don’t finish it the same day...the chances of ever finishing go down to only 50%. The run video you are looking for is already posted on my channel.

This release irritates me. No monster trucks have trailing arms and the wheels and tires are still too small. They could have designed or sourced longer shocks for axle mounting and then used proper-looking tubular 4-links. Did they make the hollow balls rod ends metal yet? No $300 RC should have plastic hollow balls that wear so quickly.
