    As usual the intro alone was enough to make me depressed

      The absolute best way to *kill your own growth* is by comparing it to the growth of others. You are where *you* are, not where *they* are. Want to get better? Stop comparing yourself to others you perceive as better than you. It's just logic friends. ^-^

    • @ReinhartSchneider
      @ReinhartSchneider 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I never ever understand guitar players who feel DEFEATED AND DEMOTIVATED by exceptional displays of skill on the instrument they play. Why does it not instead inspire you to practice? You guys aren't seeing this the right way.

    • @js31w23
      @js31w23 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lmao chill guys, you’re taking things a little too seriously don’t you think?

    • @aylbdrmadison1051
      @aylbdrmadison1051 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can't speak for others here I've never met, but my sole intention is to inspire other players to look at it in a logical manner because I think they do want to improve. I was and am as chill as one could be btw: it's late, I'm stoned (that makes me _chatty_ lols), happy, and enjoying the comments. But I'm also a guitar teacher and seen it in person for decades that this _joke_ is a way of expressing real feelings of self doubt, as many jokes are, and that's natural. ^-^
      Edit: Just to make it doubly clear. I'm personally not saying anyone is depressed or taking it too far (I wouldn't know and I try not to assume things). But we all do this type of _joke_ about different things. If you think about it, jokes really are just a way for us to deal with our clumsiness in some area or another. Isn't it easier to laugh when we stumble?

    • @aylbdrmadison1051
      @aylbdrmadison1051 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is because he goes about things logically and sustainably. Whereas most of our politicians, and often their constituents go about things based on greed, a result of denying they're lost in fear. This may serve themselves in the short term, but looking at things in such a narrow minded way is unsustainable and eventually comes back to haunt us all. You can blame the billionaires and those who blindly and illogically support them for our current predicament.
      P.S. Not saying you disagree (or agree), I wouldn't know. Just adding my own thoughts. Hope you're doing extreeemely well. ^-^

      The sooner you work on economy picking, the more naturally it will come to you. And you've worked on alternate picking, so if you've worked on sweep picking then you already are using both of the components of economy picking. It's just combining them economically after that.

You spoke about tension and I feel like the angle of the guitar away from the body and neck height play a big role in tension free playing but no one ever talking about it apart from using a foot stool. I find if I angle the guitar away it’s comfortable for the picking hand but then the guitar feels to faraway for the fretting hand. Would be good for some insight into some of these variables

    Hello Rick and Sorry to bother, but i have a really special question to ask you, and if you can answer me, this can be a life changer for me.
    I am struck with depression since a few years, and managed this to the point where i can have normal life but at the cost of inspiration and motivation for musical challenges.
    I am a former Berklee College student, had a band that was one of the major leaders of metal in Morocco, a lot of technique and a love for the guitar that made me into heavy classical training and a 12 hours a day of guitra ... And i absolutely loved it.
    And in just a few days, i lost my mojo. I lost that speed i had, self doubt struck me anytime i tried to play along with tunes i knew on the tips of my fingers. I really forgot how to play every tune i had in stock, and this depressed me even more.
    Now i have a career in production, mostly recording simple and entertaining songs but i lost all of my intuitive instincts on the guitar, my riffing and composition skills in instrumental music and i really want so bad to get out of this bad circle because i know i can overcome this : Sometimes it happens to me to play really complex tunes, but the day after that love fades away and i really feel musically empty ...
    I want my mojo back and i am willing to fight for it, but i really don't know from where to begin this journey ....
    I really thank you for taking the time to read this, god bless you as you always had my support brother.

    To achieve this top level of ACCURACY + speed + relaxation/smooth...do I really have to repeat those exercices a lot of times over and over just slow-moderate? For muscle memory and neuronal efficience, etc. Or repeat a lot of bursts... Im following some Troy Grady and Martin Miller lessons and advices, but the thing is when I do bursts Im still playing with tension and not so accurate... maybe I need more time to get used to? Or is a lot of patience practicing slow and relaxed?

    Hey Rick,
    Looking at your intonation setup: I see the low E string saddle is far back, and then it moves forward incrementally all the way to the high E. Does that also mean the height of your low E string is highest, and then string height is lower as you move torwards the high E string ? I find that keeping the high E string lower helps with bending so the B string gets out of the way, but seeing your setup I'm also thinking maybe for picking you like to have this "descending string height" setup. Am I right or am I just imagining things ? How is your string height setup ?

    Rick have you learnt Non Brewed Condiment by Allan Holdsworth? The main lead pattern sounds cool you should try it!

    As always amazing playing. On the down side it's a little quick to pick out some of the notes without tabs idk how people are figuring this out? Can anyone help solve this ?

    So I bought all of your lessons on your website (some of them repeatedly 🤦🏽‍♂️). Often though what I want is the tab for what you are presenting. It would be nice to be able to buy the videos with tabs with some way to find them from the TH-cam video. I mean, let’s face it, I will buy all your other stuff too. 😁

    Hey Rick, your economy picking sounds great. The thing I never particularly liked about economy picking was that it sounds 'sloppy' when a lot of guitarists do it - as if it was a sweep. When you economy pick across strings, you still have a lot of definition in your pick sound and if I wasn't looking, I wouldn't be able to tell that it's not alternate picking. Can you please go into the mechanics of your economy picking and how to make it sound good when going across strings in both directions? Thanks!
