I never disliked Tsukki but this episode was the main reason why my perspective of him went from thinking of him as neutral (not a character I hate but also not my favorite) to be one of my top 5 favorites in this show. What made Tsukki my number 1 favorite character was this one particular moment in season 3. Can't wait until you guys get there.
Their joke on Tsukki's "It's just a club" line is because in Japanese it is pronounced as 'tada no bukatsu'. Bokuto and Kuroo are saying that when this phrase is said, it sounds like a normal Japanese person's name "Tadano Bukatsu" and not an expression/phrase. :D
30:00 - Not really related, but the most popular character to western fans is Oikawa, but in Japan the most popular character is Tsukki. He's typically the merchandise that sells out the most--and thus priced a little higher--in stores compared to the rest.
yeah tsukki's past with his brother might not involve death but was still pretty traumatizing for a kid with daichi, basically he's saying that since that 3-3 match, he can tell that tsukki was serious about volleyball and likes it, so he doesn't think he's gonna quit. but if by some chance he did, then he's gonna try to stop him
Just a small suggestion, if you guys are gonna talk then please pause the episode when you do. I know we make it seem like it's such a big deal, but in those few seconds you can miss some very important details (especially in a show like Haikyuu where details count)
This episode provided me new perspective on Tsukki's character. Before this, I didn't like him much, but this episode showed how our personal experiences can affect us and our mindset. Tsukki's disappointment manifested in his cynicism and his belief that "someone will always be better." Thankfully, Yamaguchi was there to help him see how frustrating he was being (To be honest, I could use a Yamaguchi right now too). From this moment, we start getting more and more development and sometimes, glimpses of Tsukki's perspective and interiority as he observes and is part of the Karasuno team.
This episode definitely was a turning point for me! Tsukki didn't stand out much to me before this, though I kinda figured he had something going on that the plot just hadn't shown us yet. So when I got to this point I was like ahhh, yep, there it is. Really makes you feel for him- finding out you've been lied to for three whole years by somebody you really admired, and a family member no less? That's devastating. And watching Yamaguchi go off on him is so satisfying, every time. Love the knowing looks you guys give each other when you've both figured something out at the same time. xD
i'm a manga reader (the manga has ended) and i have to say that out of all our boys, tsukki's character development might be my favorite. his moments have made me tear up and yell multiple times over the course of the show/manga and i can't wait for you guys to keep going!!
same as a manga reader , tsuki is my one of my top favs in the series^^ i always liked him from the start and could relate to him. gotta love my salty dino ((:
Lmao the fact that Tsukki keeps using the word lame on other people but then Yama flipped it around and called him lame instead. That was like one of the most intense arguments between the characters in the anime, and this is also one of the most emotional episodes of the entire anime. I never really liked Tsukki that much, but I was just kind of neutral towards him since his sarcasm was quite humorous to me. But then Haikyuu introduced his character development and I started LOVING him as a character. GAH his backstory was so heartwrenching for his child self, and the discussion was on point about his feelings!! Also I love that you guys care so much about Kiyoko and Yachi, a lot of reactors just don't take much notice of them at all. I bet the attention put on the managers will pay off nicely because of a certain moment in Season 4:))) Thank you for the video today!! I'm excited for tomorrow's ughhhh
I relate to Tsukki's past. Just like him, my brother lied to me as well that I carried until I grown up, but we are fine now. But it affects me so much. It's pretty traumatizing especially 'Trust' is involved. Besides, it's your own family who lied to you. I actually don't understand why some fans underestimating his past, saying that he's overreacting. He's a kid. A kid. Being lied by someone you look up the most is painful. If being lied by others is painful, it's 10x more painful if it's your own family member. some fans likes ranking each characters past, they don't even trying to understand, analyze and comprehend each situations. They're not digging enough. His brother is an ace player in middle school, he went to Karasuno and tried his best to be a regular. But there are too many players who’s stronger than him and that's why. And he have no choice but to lie to Tsukki. It's somehow understandable but still wrong, it's wrong. I feel pity for both of them to be honest. Just like what his brother said, tsukki is a kind kid, he’s just having hard time communicating with others or doesn't know how to express himself. Kid tsukki is bright and bubbly, but he don't have any friends, because he's not really good at communicating. The only friend he made is Yams. The one who look up to him for being able to stand up against bullies by himself. That's why he's backing up tsukki everytime he teases tobio and shoyo. I quiet understand tsukki’s reason why he kept teasing Kageyama since he saw him play and can't tolerate his attitude on court, he doesn't know what kageyama have been through, no one knows. He's insensitive at that part. As for Shoyo, he idolize little giant, the former ace of karasuno. Maybe tsukki see Little giant in Shoyo, that's why. Tsukki believed that his brother is the ace of karasuno that's why. To he honest, tsukki is not really that bad type of person. He's the type of not trusting others that fast, especially he have reason why he can't trust them that fast. Tsukki is not the only one who have this kind of attitude who likes teasing others, or being salty. His salty attitude is just being the most highlighted since he's part of karasuno, the main team of the show. As the time goes by, tsukki is somehow, slowly changing. Slowly. I love how furudate write his character, his character development is slow, not rushed, that makes it more amazing. Because people don't change that fast. Haikyuu is one of the best show who have best written characters, where their characteristics and all were very realistic. Tsukki‘s character development is my fave to be honest, next is Kageyama. These two are one of the most misunderstood character. Tsukki’s attitude towards his teammates never change in season 4, but he's starting to trust them, plus, they're all closer now. They're not strangers anymore. It's just like normal happenings in Karasuno. Tease each other here and there. As I've mentioned earlier, tsukki doesn't know how to express himself. He actually cares for his teammates, there's an ova where Shobio failed their exam. He have small screentime where he looks bothered with Shobio’s scores. So he told them something motivates the two in the most salty way as possible. He cares for them but show it differently. I remember when he teased Tobio to not apologize to him when they didn't match (Shiratorizawa match) but gladly tsukki covered it. Kageyama looks pissed, like always, he said 'See? You're fine' since Tobio looks really tired that time. Then he became serious after. I didn't regret my decision to not judge all characters here in haikyuu. The reason why I keep rewatching it aside from it's a masterpiece, beautifully written, it's because I want to understand characters more. Especially those misunderstood ones (Tobio, Tsukki, Oikawa, Tendou, ushijima, etc.) I recommend you guys to read the manga too, so you can understand it more. Sorry for wrong grammars.
tsuki's character developtment is one of my favorite one because for one reason i really relate to him at one point that always goes asking "why?" and "For what tho" before doing anything and much more with how i don't have anything specific i have passion for. But it's true that it depends on that one moment that just hooked you and gets you into it and drown urself to keep growing^^
This is a perfect example of how growth may take time for some people. What motivates the majority does not necessarily applies to everyone. For Tsukki, there is a betrayal of trust from his brother lying to him as well and we don't usually get out of that easily. I don't think his brother losing a game would have much impact because that is normal in sports. This is why when Bokuto mentioned "the moment" is important because he gets to feel it first hand in order to move forward rather than just hearing or seeing it from other people's experience. I hope this makes sense.
I teared up watching this reaction. You heard it right. I teared up watching *this reaction.* When I watched this for the first time ever, I thought his elder brother was dodging around because he was being asked if he was the ace. So, when the reveal happened, it hit me hard that, the question really was , are you the ace *of the team.* The message of this episode is still something I'm really inspired by. Also, Bokuto's talk with Tsukishima was 🔥.
13:17 Appreciated the discussion here on 'Daichi waiting for Tsukki to quit before bringing him in'. I'd add : There's a difference between 'waiting for someone to quit' vs 'letting go and trusting someone'. The action may be the same (leaving that person alone) but two very different intentions. Daichi could tell Tsukki had passion in him since the first game, so he's allowing Tsukki the freedom to find his own way through his own journey, not by forcing him to practice against his will (which may put him off him even more).
Loved the discussion on Tsukki~ 🥺 I think his perspective is very important to talk about, not just in sports, but life in general~ He's not my favorite, but I do really like his character~
Yep honestly this episode did make me relate a lot to Tsukki since I too had the fear of trying or caring too much about something so that it didn't hurt when I didn't get it.. But actually what made me LIKE Tsukki this episode was how he called Yamaguchi cool. Like before it could be said that Tsukki- Yama friendship is unbalanced but that scene shows that though Yama might come off as Tsukki's follower Tsukki actually respects him (despite telling him to shut up lol) And my love for Yama definitely increased in this episode as well. Calling out the one he admires so much and saying he is lame to the face was such a badass move!!!
I didn’t really care much about tsukki either way from s1 up until this episode, so in that sense I would say that this episode was a big turning point for me! He wasn’t a favorite yet, but I was able to empathize with him a lot more after learning about his history, and his rationale and mindset make sense in context of his more cerebral character (needing a more meaningful “reason” to try beyond simple love/obsession like the volleyball idiots hinata/kageyama are, which I think is pretty relatable actually) and especially given what his experience with volleyball has been like so far. This episode gives him some much needed character depth, but the actual development that he goes through from here on out is what eventually made tsukki one of my karasuno favs!
I've come to love Tsukishima so much because at first I was a bit put off by him (even though I always enjoyed his smirks and as Suga says his ways of having comebacks for anything matches up to an art form lol). I think it was because I could see so much of myself in his insecurity. It's kinda annoying to look at a mirror y'know. But seeing him go through his journey has been really inspiring to me. You need the likes of Hinata, Nishinoya and Tanaka not only because they are awesome characters but also because their love for the sport and their passion is useful in pulling in the majority of the viewers that go into Haikyuu thinking 'How awesome can volleyball really be?'. But you also need Tsukki for the very same viewers because he is more realistic and relatable to a lot of us in regards to the sport. It shows that the anime is deep enough to acknowledge that. Sometimes seeing someone too passionate can also be discouraging as we see with Tsukki. Also, adding to the concepts that the show introduces - 'Hi' means 'Sun' and 'Tsuki' means 'Moon' - the 'Kage' in Kageyama means 'Shadow'. For Kageyama the prospect of having Hinata actually match-up his insane talent was such a blessing even tho Kageyama doesn't express it. On the other hand, the prospect of Hinata, someone so passionate and fast to improve, is scary for Tsukishima because he has the trauma of his brother and the Little Giant. The characters in Haikyu just play off really well off of each other.
Missin your reaction guys! If you’re going to talk about something though, it’s fine with us if you pause the video so that you won’t miss anything in the anime! Looking forward for more of your videos!
Thanks for another great reaction! I love yall's commentary and wit during each episode, and it never fails to make me smile or laugh at some point, even when I'm having a rough day. ✌️ Subscribed!
There my lovely trio "Oya! Oya oya!! Oya oya oya!!! 🤣🤣🤣 14:52 you have to pay attention to the original language chat, the jokes is in the Japanese language, something about missheard..
...I actually think like Tsukki...well, I used to be like Hinata but meeting very negative people who completely crushed my beliefs changed me, and now I'm depressed lol, Tsukki my boy, I'm glad he's doing well now. I'm trying to get better but it's not easy, sometimes I'm jealous that these boys have their friends with them, Oikawa has Iwaizumi, Hibata has Kageyama and vice-versa, Tsukki has Tadachi and the opposite counts as well, Suga has Daichi, Asahi has Noya, they all have their backs and Tanaka has everyone's back lol, anyway, I guess your mental well being really depends on who you're with, I'm happy for them though, glad to see their growth and learn from it, personally I just tell myself I could d*e tomorrow or even in a second so why even bother.
The kuroo and bokuto joke was so lost in translation 😭 Basically tsukki says “it’s just a club” (tada ga bukatsu) and bokuto says that tada no bukatsu (it means the same thing) sounds like a name (Tada Nobukatsu) to which kuroo agreed. There’s nothing really important there, all you gotta understand from that is that these two are goofballs when paired together
TSUKKI!! I tend to like characters with Tsukki personality but his witty comments being directed towards two of my boys (Hinata & Kageyama) did put him down on my list early on. S1 ep6 I realized I would LOVE Tsukki when he is putting his energy and snarky comments towards our opponents so I patiently waited for him 😊❤
And there it is...the episode where Tsukki, at long last, gets catapulted onwards with one of the greatest character redemption arcs I've ever seen. You guys will legit cry when his "moment" finally comes. The moon will shine bright, even amidst the sun's rays.
I feel it's that tsukki's too much of a realist. And then to find himself in the same position that his brother was in, and saw what it did to his brother, why would he want to give it his all? At least, he doesn't want to. But you cold tell in the last game of season one, he began giving passion in it, telling kageyama that he's not the only person who has ideas and schemes. But again reality strikes, that they lost and the team they lost to lost. And all it did was prove him right to himself. Meanwhile, all hinata wants to do is keep playing. He practices so hard just because he wants to be able to play more games against better players. He's not striving to become the best, he's just striving to never stop playing, because he loves volleyball so much, and doing what he has to do to achieve that goal.
Long comment ahead, sorry in advance! Us tall sack of salt fans will ofc be flocking the comments section for this reaction ep. Unlike the majority of Tsukki's fans, I have liked him since day 1. There's just something about his sass and being motivated by spite no matter how much he tries to not let himself be affected that got me. If nothing else I saw him as interesting. Like in that 3 vs 3 game, he was immediately negatively triggered by Hinata and Kageyama's passion, we didn't know at the time, but it was because he remembered how his brother was so into volleyball too. He got so triggered that he immediately antagonized them, what a jerk. Then he tried to act like he was above it all, but as Daichi also noticed, he was fired up during the match and yeah this tall salty boi acts cool but he hates losing, and hates that he hates it bec it's just supposed to be a club. Yamaguchi also said it himself, if Tsukki didn't like volleyball then he wouldn't have gone to Karasuno; the school his brother boasted so much despite being so far in the reserve pool of players. Too bad for Tsukki this iteration of Karasuno team is driven by so much hunger for growth that he's being dragged into situations that forces him to come face to face with questioning what it is he really want to do with his club life. His trust issues definitely aren't an excuse for being a jerk, but he's trying his best to close himself off to not be as hurt as his brother once the inevitable loss and disappointment hits. Also I think Yamaguchi is an angel for sticking by him. Tsukki would be a friendless salty jackass if it wasn't for Yamaguchi. Lots of confrontation this season, Asahi and Hinata collide in practice, Hinata and Kageyama get into a fight, then Tsukki and Yamaguchi basically have their own pow-wow. Also Bokuto, Kuroo, and Akaashi being there besides the Karasuno team to knock some sense into Tsukki is one of my fave things Gawd Tsukki, it takes a village to try and knock the salt out of you.
"was this the moment?" yeah, you don't wanna know xD it'll be more exciting if you don't ask that :) but yes, this was one of those moments that made you hate him less, at least for me haha still kinda a jerk at this point for me ^^u
I never disliked Tsukki but this episode was the main reason why my perspective of him went from thinking of him as neutral (not a character I hate but also not my favorite) to be one of my top 5 favorites in this show. :D
they share one braincell xD

30:00 - Not really related, but the most popular character to western fans is Oikawa, but in Japan the most popular character is Tsukki. He's typically the merchandise that sells out the most--and thus priced a little higher--in stores compared to the rest.
"I love that the introduction of the new manager lets Kiyoko talk like so much more."
So do Tanaka and Noya. 😂
yeah tsukki's past with his brother might not involve death but was still pretty traumatizing for a kid
with daichi, basically he's saying that since that 3-3 match, he can tell that tsukki was serious about volleyball and likes it, so he doesn't think he's gonna quit. but if by some chance he did, then he's gonna try to stop him
This is just the beginning of Tsukishima's growth.✨
Just a small suggestion, if you guys are gonna talk then please pause the episode when you do. I know we make it seem like it's such a big deal, but in those few seconds you can miss some very important details (especially in a show like Haikyuu where details count)

I teared up watching this reaction.
You heard it right. I teared up watching *this reaction.*
When I watched this for the first time ever, I thought his elder brother was dodging around because he was being asked if he was the ace.
So, when the reveal happened, it hit me hard that, the question really was , are you the ace *of the team.*
The message of this episode is still something I'm really inspired by.
Also, Bokuto's talk with Tsukishima was 🔥.
Yamaguchi supremacy- thank you bye ✋😂
This was the moment when he became a favorite of mine and ANOTHER moment makes him even better.
13:17 Appreciated the discussion here on 'Daichi waiting for Tsukki to quit before bringing him in'.
I'd add : There's a difference between 'waiting for someone to quit' vs 'letting go and trusting someone'. The action may be the same (leaving that person alone) but two very different intentions. ...I actually think like Tsukki...well, I used to be like Hinata but meeting very negative people who completely crushed my beliefs changed me, and now I'm depressed lol, Tsukki my boy, I'm glad he's doing well now.
Watching this while cooking my lunch. Lol! I'm really for you guys to see Tsukishima's growth 🥰
TSUKKI!! I tend to like characters with Tsukki personality but his witty comments being directed towards two of my boys (Hinata & Kageyama) did put him down on my list early on. S1 ep6 I realized I would LOVE Tsukki when he is putting his energy and snarky comments towards our opponents so I patiently waited for him 😊❤
That pause and look at 6:35 was hilarious LMAO
loved the serious talk guys!!!
❤
I really like tuskki from here on out but the there is a moment from season three where he was lock in as one of my favorites
I kind of want there to actually be a character named "Tada Nobukatsu" later in Haikyu.
Also Bokuto, Kuroo, and Akaashi being there besides the Karasuno team to knock some sense into Tsukki is one of my fave things
Gawd Tsukki, it takes a village to try and knock the salt out of you.
I've been waiting for this!!😄♥️
"was this the moment?" yeah, you don't wanna know xD it'll be more exciting if you don't ask that :) but yes, this was one of those moments that made you hate him less, at least for me haha still kinda a jerk at this point for me ^^u
just got dinner, you guys uploaded at a perfect time :)
