good to see you back creating mac based abominations :) Also, its really impressive that that old macbook air runs sonoma so well. There are a lot of things I dislike about apple but their software optimisation is rediculous. And huge shoutout to the OCLP team, they're truly keeping so many old macs from ewaste bins

I did the 2011 iMac video card upgrade to the Nvidia K2100M. I used OCLP to get it up to Monterey and it works great. I've got a 2015 Macbook Air that runs Monetrey natively so I'm just waiting until that stops getting security updates until I try OCLP on that. I'm sure it'll be fine since yours is working good.

The fact that they dropped support for the top end Macbook Pros is ridiculous. Of course a Pro with a much beefier CPU and 4x the RAM should be able to run later OS more easily.
Interesting to see you can install Sonoma using Open Core. Wonder how much better the performance would be using Linux Mint Cinnamon desktop? I know you're dedicated to OS-X but Linux might be a better and simpler solution.
@MacintoshMen yup, we use Firefox web browser, Duck Duck Go search engine, and ad blockers. When Firefox loads, it is set to open up as a blank page. Keep the PC clean, no Google, no Chrome, no Facebook. There's no bloat and nothing to slow it down. The OS with Firefox, GIMP, Libre Office, VLC, Brassiero, etc... only takes up about 16 gb drive space.
Hey, can you try to do an upgrade installation next time instead of clean? Most people like myself would like to simply upgrade the current OS and not lose all their files and apps. I want to see how upgrade installation works!
I've upgraded with the normal process (from the Settings) on my 2015 early Macbook Air from Ventura to Sonoma after I've updated OLCP to V1.0, and it went well! :)
Would a MacBook 2016 12" be usable with Sonoma? Mine is on monterey right now and it's perfectly fast enough. I use for TH-cam mainly and reddit. The MacBook air in this video clearly can't handle Sonoma with the 4GB of ram, it locked up just loading TH-cam lol, but 8 should be fine right? Or should I stick with Ventura?
Good video dear, keep up the good work But can I still install windows? I mean I’ll love to play games like gta5 and likes but I’m not sure if i can with Sonoma already in it
Hello, good video, I have a question, can I download Xcode after that update to Sonoma? I see that the MacBook runs very well the Sonoma... I'm thinking of buying that Macbook to start developing apps... Greetings from Mexico.
Hello, I was testing it on a Macbook Air like that for a few days and it gave me temperatures of up to 70 degrees Celsius, which I don’t know if it’s a normal value for these Macs, it’s the only thing I worry about, otherwise, its performance was good
Yeah, that's very common actually. A lot of older Macs run super hot in stock config. If you use a fan control program you can get the temps down a bit.
I have a problem when waking up from sleep it glitches and I have to repeatedly press enter button then I have a print “ login window failed to work” or something like that
I have a 2017 macbook air and it supports Monterey which isn't old yet and works well... I think what is holding back this 2013 model is the 4gb ram. If it had 8 im sure it would do a lot better with the internet. Maybe in a year or two I might also (unofficially) install newer macos version, but I might have to replace the battery first before then :)
Yeah I agree, the 4GB of RAM is a bummer on this one, that will cause problems in the future but right now I am astonished how well it still holds up. Much better than that '11 Macbook I had some time ago.
I have a 2013 11inch model. Upgraded the i5 CPU to an i7, the RAM to 8GB (the same as Apples current machines!) and a faster NVME m.2 SSD. Used OpenCore to install Monterey. No problems and easily fast enough for my needs.
