Cannot possibly imagine the conversation that went into designing this ship "We need a ship that stays in one place, how can we make that happen?" "Anchors?" "Nah nah, let's make it stand up"
I'd be concerned about it rolling about its longitudinal axis during the flip process. It must somehow maintain the CofG below the the CofB at all angles during the transition. Lead weights or maybe an array of tanks that fill in a prescribed order? Cant believe its from the 60s. Thought it is much newer!
In 1978 I was involved in a FLIP towex and placement off of San Diego, CA while stationed on USS TAKELMA (ATF 113). Anchored it with thousands of feet of steel cable
Curious how the three diesel generators on Flip performed as the vehicle went from horizontal to vertical. They must have been mounted on a swivel platform?
@@nrgpup77you'd be surprised what we can accomplish when needed. Hopefully we can meet our greatest challenge survival of the species requires finding multiple habitable planets and reaching them.
Gimbals. They're just HPUs providing pump pressure so it's not that difficult. If they had to drive a prop shaft or pto, it would be a bit more tricky. It only rotates 90 degrees so engine services can just be on chains, reels, swivels, etc. If it had to continuously rotate then it would be a real challenge. Electrical and fluid slip rings would be the order!
I don't understand what the toilet facilities are like when the train is horizontal? And what the toilet facilities are like when the train is vertical???
the RP in haarp stands for research program. AKA scientific research. Not everything is a conspiracy. Your paranoia is going to shorten your life span my dude.
@@MrJameslupien research what? If you know what haarp can do then you know not all research is in the name of science. Being naive is gonna shorten your lifespan kiddo

Ant no we
let's go fishing, i just designed this killer bobber. lol
Buoy is not actually pronounced as booey. Take the word "buoyant" then lose the "ant."

Everyone in is a gangster until the air burst 🤯
I find out about FLIP fall in love... Then they say it's been scrapped. 😭
no way! it has been around since the 50s so technology needed updating?

1962 Technology, that's very cool!
The research ship is currently in my city, Antofagasta Chile
Which one? It cant be the flip it was decommission last year.
@@ValhallaKnight2 seems not, as it just enered harbour of La Ciotat in Southern France.

Maybe one or two kick in only when it flips. Then the question is how do the others not leak like crazy lol
The coffee pot was on a swivel mount.
Can't say China might know our secrets then the goberment will ban youtube

Wow eye-opening great technology
They got this idea from the titanic. 😅
Too soon man, too soon.

Amazing my first time to see this shep
Quite interesting. Thank you. 😊😊😊
Transformers "Ocean Ship/Boat in Disguise"
RIP FLIP 😢
Good work 👏👏👏
Yeah someone did a great sales pitch. The mapping of the ocean floor doesn't need a machine like this. Canceled because it was not needed
Get to the chopper 🚁
Literally heard of it today! Scrapped last year...
Really sure the image on 1:02 of the NATO NURC RVAlliance Antenna System is public knowledge?!
The 2nd one looks like someone cut the bow off a bigger ship.
Does the ship continue to sail at the vertical position?
It doesn't has moving capabilities. It has to be towed to its research location.
Flip would make a good sea launch platform for rockets. Think Sea Dragon.
That's amazing.
Not just amazing, it's "flippin" awesome.
I'm both surprised and concerned that this wasn't built in the Soviet Union.
Apparently it was not decommisioned as they just towed ot into the harbour of La Ciotat in Southern France.
Flipping amazing
😮

RIP flip.
WOW 😱 So amazing 🫡💖🙏
❤
Why do they keep showing ships with Russian flags on it 🤔 😒?
Lirdllll😊
Why does it bother you?
Something like this could be made to reach the bottom of the sea like a mega lift pulley tunnel system then they could build at the bottom of the sea
Listening for under water UFO’s
Those would be USOs 🙏🏿
how it goes back to horizontal?
Offset CofB and CofG to generate a turning moment.

seen two of them in San deigo never new what they was used fore in 1980 an now I now
Warum hat das Video eine deutsche Überschrift und ist dann in englischer Sprache??

No thx
Yeah I call BS she don't have to mass for that. I was a young buck solid 210 playing with 375 390 eating 4 to 6 chicken breasts a day.
This is why we don't have universal healthcare. Stupid waste of money
This is one of the most ignorant comments I've seen on yourtube in quite a while.
What a waste of tax payer money. No wonder why my taxes are so f_cking high!!!
Its because of medicare and Medicaid fraud and waste.
Don’t worry It was decommissioned in 2023. 😂
It was built in the damn 60s your tax money wasn’t even a thing back then
Yeah its the fault of a science research station and not the $800 billion defense budget that taxes are so high.🙄
