This unbelievable! I made it through my entire Bachelor Degree writing papers and NO ONE taught me this. I now understand why I can not get hired for administer jobs! Thank you.
Scott Hanselman is one of the best instructors on the net. His knowledge of the topic is so deep and his delivery so fluid that he is able to give us mere mortals the understanding we seek with no wasted time. His series is part of my reference library.
Hey this was pretty awesome. I'm an engineering who's been using word for years but am transitioning into project management where this stuff is critical. It was really great how you broke all of that down, somewhere in my educational history none of this was ever touched on. I'm assuming none of the people who taught me really KNEW word. keep doing these.
Not only was this thoroughly helpful, it was also hilarious every time you reacted to "the messes" when you turned paragraph marks on. I've been using Word for years and been guilty of all these mistakes. No longer. Please make more Word tutorials!
OMG!!! I was absolutely clueless when it came to tabs and indents. If there was more than one tab, I was lost. And forget about idents! This helped me so much. You just saved me from so much stress and frustration. Thank you!
I enjoyed this video about tabs & indents. I would like to see one on bullets, numbering, multilevel list and outlining. I'm a returning college student and have figured out that Multilevel lists and Outlining work well for me in studying and note taking. Thank You!
Hi Scott. You're a God send and a wonderful teacher. The company I work for took too long in transitioning entirely over to Word (former Corel users) -- there's no professional training to be had and with the workload picking up so fast; it's overwhelming. Even with professional training (that I've had years ago), they will not get into the essential details that you explain here. You make using Word easy and fun. Thank you very much!!
Hey Scott, these WORD videos of yours life savers and are of great utility to all word users. Want to see entire word features (in various videos) explained in the same rhythm and way.
Great video. I used to get frustrated with proper formatting in Word and sometimes found it easier to use LaTeX to better control the layout of my documents. It'd be great if you would do a few more videos in this series!
Hello Scott... I just viewed your video, and I must say that I appreciate the simplicity of your tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to teach what you know to people like me who do not know. Keep up the good work and know that you are appreciated!!
I knew the most of what you went through in this video but this would be a valuable video for my wife. Very well explained, please make more of these. Thanks.
Must watch! Was guilty of all above and oblivious to my pure beginner status until I watched this video. So jam-packed with helpful information have watched more than once. Thank you so much.
This is that request you asked for to expand on the topics you mentioned in the last seconds of this video on tabs and indents in MS word. Please do, there are lots of us who need that info!! Thanks for taking the time.
Definitely want more of this training. PARAGRAPHS! And line spacing! Help! Also, the down and dirty on page breaks -- not just an overview, but demonstrate all the issues that one can have! Thanks so much! Hurry! LOL! I need it for work! LOL
More more more! It's funny... As a developer I seem to spend more of my time fighting Word and OneNote developing documentation than I do writing code. This was really useful. I'd very much enjoy you doing more of these to cover the other topics you specified at the end of the video.
I watched a few of your word videos. Wow. I have been trying to master word since the early days and as a Old Word Perfect user it was a completely different concept. I have got to the point that my documents work well for our business. I do a lot of long documents, Leases etc. The are all mail merge documents that complete the contract. Every one of your videos speaks to me in a language I can completely understand and comprehend. I would love to see some videos on advanced Mail Merge and Master Documents. Thank You and these are the best word videos I have come across. As a side note I am 70 years old and I spend about an hour and a half everyday watching videos on software I use in my business. I am not happy till I truly master the software I have. I have been in business for 41 Years and don't plan on retiring till I am around 80. Still a lot to learn.
The insight of how to test your design by increasing text size is simple and brilliant. Now I understand more deeply why using spaces breaks and why proper use of indents and tab stops in more powerful.
I never knew that beginning Microsoft Word users do not use tabs and indents but spaces to move text along the page. I take full advantage of the power of Word. This movie was helpful and entertaining to me. I hope to see more of Scott Hanselman teaching us Microsoft Word.
I can't tell you how many times I have been frustrated with Word, trying to use spaces, tabs, and shift+enter commands to get things to line up. Thank you!
Another great video. Please, please do some more videos. I'd like to see a more in=depth one on tabs, this one was great. I'd also like to see one on tables, drawing tools, combine and compare docs. Thank you.
After watching your video on word tabs and indents I would like for you to keep making these videos. I have looked and paid for basics on how to do it the right way. Others have failed they go one way with a conversation then another, its like they don't have a good understanding of how to do it. Oh not to forget I agree with your video. Great Job. thanks!
Scott this vid is soo helpful to me. I need to learn at a slower pace in order to get the full meaning of what I am being taught. You have really given me a better understanding of tabs, etc. Now I believe formatting my book will be completed quicker.
I'm not an admin professional by any means however, your videos keep my knowledge rolling. I am able to write my own professional grade documents. Thanks!
This would be a really helpful series. Often times I forget about much of Word's formatting features when working with large documents. I would like to see more.
Thanks again for a truly informative Word video. I've been what I've considered an advanced beginner of Word. I don't know if that's what I've been, but will be able to feel more confident of my use of Word with your videos.

I'm a fan of Hanselminutes since years and I think I'm becoming a fan of this videos too ;-) Thank you Scott for the great work you're doing.
Very good...and you're right...there are Word users and those who say they are. Thanks so much for putting names and faces on the things that I've been doing for years. You have make my work a lot easier...now that I understand exactly what works and how to properly implement it.
Excellent video series Scott. I only wish I ran into these BEFORE I spent 4 hours formatting a sloppy 25-page document. I watched the rest of your Word video series, and I am happy to say I will never struggle to fix improper formatting again, especially since I now know how to do it right the first time.
Mr. Hanselman-- Thank you for sharing your expertise so beautifully, easy to understand. Your teaching style should be the norm. I am a fan, a subscribed fan. You have helped me so much with just this one video. I am 72 and still trying to learn some basic technologies concepts. Your style is so great. Keep up the great work. I am needing this information so I can type up my words and ideas for a short stage play. So I am not only needing to learn: STANDARD STAGE PLAY FORMAT but also microsoft word typing tools. Yes there are 2 kinds of people. Those that get through this complex world with ease, (seemingly) and those that struggle every step of the way.
I really appreciate your attention to detail in your teaching. Many teachers leave gaps in their instructions which then makes it necessary to investigate other teachers to get more information on certain topics. Not to say that those teachers are at fault, they can't cover everything that a Word tool can do on a specific topic. There is much teaching that is just basic, but thankfully, you go beyond that. I wish you had more videos on MS WORD. I learn much more quickly from you, because of your method of instruction. I would really like to see a demonstration on Search & Replace using wildcards - primarily in regards to what Word allows within the "Replace With" box. I know how to reverse the order of items - first and last names, etc. but beyond that, I have yet to find anything on TH-cam that really helps in that area and answers my questions. I use Search & Replace quite often (mostly fixing mistakes) and I am pretty familiar with the basics of it, but Wildcards, for the most part, have me stumped. Also, if I am allowed another request, I would like to know more about using Search & Replace/More/Format/Paragraph tool. I have tried using it but I usually fail in my attempts. I suspect that it is probably because my paragraph indents have not always been consistent, and that because I have only recently seen the real benefit of using Tabs and Margins instead of “…………….” and you helped me get over that very bad habit. I love writing and using MS Word, and I use it almost daily, but my desire is limited by my ignorance. Therefore, I spend more time "fixing something" or "trying to figure out how to do something" than I do in "doing something." Many, many wasted hours! The failure of putting ACTION before KNOWLEDGE. A trait that is far too prevalent in our days. If I had only discovered Tabs years ago… Thanks for your help!
Thank you for posting this video. I would like to suggest that you encourage using list levels, rather than customizing a bunch of indents and tabs, when stepping down a level in a bullet-ed list. Simply click on the Bullet List Arrow on the Main Menu Ribbon, and select, "Change List Level". MUCH easier!
Hey Scott, this really helped! I was naive enough to align stuff with tables in Word... this is like when you discover you can use css to position your elements! Most of us just started up Word and started to type, so element positioning was always left aside. Thanks for the time and thoughts you invested on sharing. :)
Really good video! Your video was the 5th I looked in searching for simple and clear instruction in how to, and it delivered what I was searching for! It will definitely help me to save time and most probably to find a better job when I send my CV to Companies. For now on, if I have a doubt in how to work with something in Word I know whom to seek videos from!! Thank you Solange Lok
Amazing video. Short but with lots of useful content. Thank you very much you opened the door for us to redesign our work templates. You should definitely post more videos like this for proper use of office suite.
Now, this video really helped me with my Office Skills exam so I thank you for that but it also made me send my next resumes in PDF, just to be sure :)
Having spent the majority of my career in the legal field and using WordPerfect, I have resisted really learning Word. I've finally decided to really learn Word (and not be one of those people!) and I am very thankful for your videos.
Hey Scott, I stumbled on to your videos after installing office 2016 earlier today. Since then I have watched a small selection and will look to watch many more over the next few weeks. It is refreshing to watch tutorials which are relaxed whilst obviously structured, as well as accompanied by clear easy to understand audio. It would be great to see you do a video of creating a document template. I have created several over the years but have always had to refer online to overcome issues with different page numbers, margins, etc. being used throughout different sections. Many thanks for all the effort and time you made available to us all.
This was very helpful. I am learning curriculum design and my deficit is my word formatting skills or lack there of. You have an ability to transfer information, nice pace and clearly spoken. I found your repeated demonstration very helpful to my learning style. Thank you
Great video. Been struggling with word for the last 20 years, always thought it had a mind of its own when it came to page layout. This video has set many things straight.
Great video, BUT. I would love a video like this one, but for Excel. I was querying the a database the other day and spit out some CSVs. We were trying to analyze the data in excel and really couldn't figure it out (not before giving up). This thing always drove me crazy at work. Glad that my resumes are sent PDF, otherwise I would be caught redhanded. Although this video shed some light through, I'm still confused. I guess I have to practice, practice and practice some more. Thank you.
Hi Scott, your videos change my using word enormously. unfortunately, I can see only few videos about the word tricks. Are you going to add more videos? I am struggling with positioning the images in my word document. Please continue this great work, you cannot imagine how these videos are really helpful.
Thank you. Very helpful and nicely demonstrated, just recently started working with Word after several years and "kind of" new about tabs & indents. Great job. I would definitely enjoy and appreciate more videos like this one. (Going to check if they're already there.)
Great video, Scott. One thing that could also be included is the purpose of the right click pop up format painter (paint brush) and styles. They reduce a lot of brute force formatting. If you have created a separate video(s) for these subjects, maybe you could include links in your basic description.
This unbelievable! I made it through my entire Bachelor Degree writing papers and NO ONE taught me this. I now understand why I can not get hired for administer jobs! Thank you.

I love how excited you were about cleaning up the document. It was very satisfying to watch and informative. I learnt some new tricks! Thank you
Scott, you improved my Word skills by a factor of 10.
Thanks vor that! More videos are highly welcome!

What a great presentation. I learned so much. I look forward to more of your videos.
Great video. I had no idea how to use Word. I'm learning a lot lately about diving into Word.
Thanks
Outstanding. Every college student preparing a resume needs to watch this one.
You nailed it again! I can't tell you how many times I have helped clean up Word documents for friends and family. Thanks for sharing!!!
Not only was this thoroughly helpful, it was also hilarious every time you reacted to "the messes" when you turned paragraph marks on. I've been using Word for years and been guilty of all these mistakes. No longer. Please make more Word tutorials!

Great little tutorial. 20 years of struggling put to bed in 15 minutes. Great work!
I enjoyed this video about tabs & indents. I would like to see one on bullets, numbering, multilevel list and outlining. I'm a returning college student and have figured out that Multilevel lists and Outlining work well for me in studying and note taking. Thank You!
Great video. I love the proper use of Word which I keep emphasizing to my colleagues. It is nice to see someone who is a proponent.
I've always used tab stops - but never knew the specifics of each. Thanks for the run through!

I was blown away with your video detailing about the use of ruler and para using. Thank you for the knowledge it helped me a lot.
Wow, you've open my mind. I'm never going to use Word the same way. Keep it going !
Scott, this is just what the doctor ordered! Thank you very much!! You don't know, what you don't know, until you see it!! Thanks again!
This kind of education must be a tool to become better humans in this planet. Thank you so much, grettings from Bogotá, Colombia

This was really helpful! I don't use spaces with reckless abandon but I apparently just learned that I've been doing tabs all wrong.
This is great Scott. Really useful stuff. I'll be circulating this in the office to help everybody else too. Off to check out your other videos now :)

Great stuff. I learned Word at school. It was still a nice refresher. And I'm sure going to link this to others to watch. So yes, more pls :)
Having spent the majority of my career in the legal field and using WordPerfect, I have resisted really learning Word. I've finally decided to really learn Word (and not be one of those people!) and I am very thankful for your videos.
Very helpful indeed! Looking forward to further assistance on how to use tabs, how to create columns, breaks etc.

Great video. Been struggling with word for the last 20 years, always thought it had a mind of its own when it came to page layout. This video has set many things straight.
Revolutionary! Thanks for opening up the door to invite us the "Word Mafia" !! Seriously helpful! Thank You!
This was great. I would love to see a tutorial on columns. Thanks
Great video, would love to see more in depth videos like this one with Word!

I know Excel is extremely powerful, but I've never ran across a video about it. How about doing a series like "Excel for programmers".
Thanks for uploading. Please keep making these kind of videos. They are really very helpful.
Great video, would love to see more in this series.
Hi Scott. Thanks a lot! You do a great work. I have a suggestion, it would be nice to do a video about Microsoft Word Revision and interaction between team differnt members in the same document.
keep up the good work
Thank you very much for making these videos. I did consider myself proficient in all Microsoft Office programs... until now :) I need a tutorial that shows me how to set fields and populate items into a header. This video is incredible please do more of this type.
There are so many videos circulating on this topic and other aspects of the suite,
this one is remarkably much more fluid, in your explanation and the over all layout of the video. It's been very helpful, thank you sir!
Brilliant. I would like more in-depth teachings please. Many thanks.
Scott, thank you very much for the video! It's amazing! I watched it 2 times. A lot of useful tips and ideas. Now I must say I'm a bit closer to those part of population who knows Word, haha. Thanks for that!
Thank you for your video. Your video is helping me to fine tune my skills even further and making it so much easier. Looking forward to future videos.
Once again Scott this is brilliant. I can't wait to show my girl friend who has to do a lot of this stuff, and we both had no idea really.
Thanks for this wonderful and magic video, your simple way of explaining is what I appreciate
I just wrote a resume for my technical writing class. I wish I had found this video first. Thank you!
I forgot to say that these videos are extremely helpful. Thank you.
Thought I knew Word quite well, apparently not! Would love more of these guides!
This video was a great help. I'll be looking for every video you make. Thank you so much!
I realized I really don't know how to use Microsoft AT ALL. Please keeping making videos. I'm putting myself through school with your videos!
Thank you very much Scott. Was taking and online course and really needed help. Thanks again.
Excellent! Very clear. Learned a tremendous amount! Thank you
Hi Scott, I wanted to thank you for this video. It was a real help as I redo my resume today April 2022.
Very helpful, I've just graduated from a novice to a nuanced Word user.
Great work Scott, this was pinged around our office followed by lots of "oh right that's how you do it wow what a great time saver". I also think the amount of Word related swearing has been diagrammaticality reduced because of this video. We would all benefit from more - localising it with real content/examples was the key - thanks again :)
Richard Howes yay!
This thing always drove me crazy at work. Glad that my resumes are sent PDF, otherwise I would be caught redhanded. Although this video shed some light through, I'm still confused. I guess I have to practice, practice and practice some more. Thank you.
Even as a Google Docs user, I learned a lot on how to properly use a word processor today.
fantastic...great video...thanks Scott...you are an amazing teacher!
yep this was pretty good
oh my gosh thank you!!!! This answered sooooo many questions that I had. Just WOW!!!! Awesome!
Hi Scott, your videos change my using word enormously. unfortunately, I can see only few videos about the word tricks. Are you going to add more videos? I am struggling with positioning the images in my word document. Please continue this great work, you cannot imagine how these videos are really helpful.
Nicely done, Scott. Sloppy Word technique is one of my pet peeves as well. In the next one, you should cover the power of Shift-Enter.
Thats really incredible video sir.
I am flattered by your expertise in MS Word. I would certainly like to have more videos from you.
Thank you. Very helpful and nicely demonstrated, just recently started working with Word after several years and "kind of" new about tabs & indents. Great job. I would definitely enjoy and appreciate more videos like this one. (Going to check if they're already there.)
Wow i really wish you were my highschool computer teacher... Great video.. Thanks a lot.
Thank you so much for your professional and educational videos!
Thank you, this was very helpful! Easy to follow, clear explanation.
Great video, Scott. One thing that could also be included is the purpose of the right click pop up format painter (paint brush) and styles. They reduce a lot of brute force formatting. If you have created a separate video(s) for these subjects, maybe you could include links in your basic description.
