Scott Hanselman is one of the best instructors on the net. His knowledge of the topic is so deep and his delivery so fluid that he is able to give us mere mortals the understanding we seek with no wasted time. His series is part of my reference library.

Hey this was pretty awesome. I'm an engineering who's been using word for years but am transitioning into project management where this stuff is critical. It was really great how you broke all of that down, somewhere in my educational history none of this was ever touched on. I'm assuming none of the people who taught me really KNEW word. keep doing these.

Not only was this thoroughly helpful, it was also hilarious every time you reacted to "the messes" when you turned paragraph marks on. I've been using Word for years and been guilty of all these mistakes. No longer. Please make more Word tutorials!

OMG!!! I was absolutely clueless when it came to tabs and indents. If there was more than one tab, I was lost. And forget about idents! This helped me so much. You just saved me from so much stress and frustration. Thank you!

Hi Scott. You're a God send and a wonderful teacher. The company I work for took too long in transitioning entirely over to Word (former Corel users) -- there's no professional training to be had and with the workload picking up so fast; it's overwhelming. Even with professional training (that I've had years ago), they will not get into the essential details that you explain here. You make using Word easy and fun. Thank you very much!!

I watched a few of your word videos. Wow. I have been trying to master word since the early days and as a Old Word Perfect user it was a completely different concept. I have got to the point that my documents work well for our business. I do a lot of long documents, Leases etc. The are all mail merge documents that complete the contract. Every one of your videos speaks to me in a language I can completely understand and comprehend. I would love to see some videos on advanced Mail Merge and Master Documents. Thank You and these are the best word videos I have come across. As a side note I am 70 years old and I spend about an hour and a half everyday watching videos on software I use in my business. I am not happy till I truly master the software I have. I have been in business for 41 Years and don't plan on retiring till I am around 80. Still a lot to learn.

The insight of how to test your design by increasing text size is simple and brilliant. Now I understand more deeply why using spaces breaks and why proper use of indents and tab stops in more powerful.

Mr. Hanselman-- Thank you for sharing your expertise so beautifully, easy to understand. Your teaching style should be the norm. I am a fan, a subscribed fan. You have helped me so much with just this one video. I am 72 and still trying to learn some basic technologies concepts. Your style is so great. Keep up the great work. I am needing this information so I can type up my words and ideas for a short stage play. So I am not only needing to learn: STANDARD STAGE PLAY FORMAT but also microsoft word typing tools. Yes there are 2 kinds of people. Those that get through this complex world with ease, (seemingly) and those that struggle every step of the way.

  • @alanhuber364

I really appreciate your attention to detail in your teaching. Many teachers leave gaps in their instructions which then makes it necessary to investigate other teachers to get more information on certain topics. Not to say that those teachers are at fault, they can't cover everything that a Word tool can do on a specific topic. There is much teaching that is just basic, but thankfully, you go beyond that. I wish you had more videos on MS WORD. I learn much more quickly from you, because of your method of instruction.
I would really like to see a demonstration on Search & Replace using wildcards - primarily in regards to what Word allows within the "Replace With" box. I know how to reverse the order of items - first and last names, etc. but beyond that, I have yet to find anything on TH-cam that really helps in that area and answers my questions. I use Search & Replace quite often (mostly fixing mistakes) and I am pretty familiar with the basics of it, but Wildcards, for the most part, have me stumped.
Also, if I am allowed another request, I would like to know more about using Search & Replace/More/Format/Paragraph tool. I have tried using it but I usually fail in my attempts. I suspect that it is probably because my paragraph indents have not always been consistent, and that because I have only recently seen the real benefit of using Tabs and Margins instead of “…………….” and you helped me get over that very bad habit.
I love writing and using MS Word, and I use it almost daily, but my desire is limited by my ignorance. Therefore, I spend more time "fixing something" or "trying to figure out how to do something" than I do in "doing something." Many, many wasted hours! The failure of putting ACTION before KNOWLEDGE. A trait that is far too prevalent in our days.
If I had only discovered Tabs years ago…
    Thanks for your help!

  • @lvmyfam11
    @lvmyfam11 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you for posting this video. I would like to suggest that you encourage using list levels, rather than customizing a bunch of indents and tabs, when stepping down a level in a bullet-ed list. Simply click on the Bullet List Arrow on the Main Menu Ribbon, and select, "Change List Level". MUCH easier!

Hey Scott, this really helped! I was naive enough to align stuff with tables in Word... this is like when you discover you can use css to position your elements!

Hey Scott, I stumbled on to your videos after installing office 2016 earlier today. Since then I have watched a small selection and will look to watch many more over the next few weeks. It is refreshing to watch tutorials which are relaxed whilst obviously structured, as well as accompanied by clear easy to understand audio. It would be great to see you do a video of creating a document template. I have created several over the years but have always had to refer online to overcome issues with different page numbers, margins, etc. being used throughout different sections. Great video, BUT. I would love a video like this one, but for Excel. I was querying the a database the other day and spit out some CSVs. We were trying to analyze the data in excel and really couldn't figure it out (not before giving up). I ended up going back to TSQL and spitting out the same data with different Group By's, and other aggregate functions in the select and so on. Select X, Sum(Y), Count(Z) Where something Group By X
I know Excel is extremely powerful, but I've never ran across a video about it. How about doing a series like "Excel for programmers".

Great video, Scott. One thing that could also be included is the purpose of the right click pop up format painter (paint brush) and styles. They reduce a lot of brute force formatting. If you have created a separate video(s) for these subjects, maybe you could include links in your basic description.
