I really enjoy the game. I really enjoy imsa/wec racing. Best way to replicate that feeling. I can create my own story. Only rfactor 2 might have a better LMP 2.
The sound needs some work for sure. But I adjusted the settings and that worked for me. I turned off the track limits in single player.
My biggest annoyance right now is the ai pitting more than they should. Removes the challenge on longer races.
I'm on pc so I can get around some of the other limits too.
Another good thing is the race engineer. I know most set up tricks. But the race engineer provides a good second opinion.
The default setups are pretty good and stable too. Good enough to get you started. Providing a path to faster times later.
So just get it when it goes on sale. Lots of fun.

@@SimRacing604 yeah I mean I saw huge time drops in cars I even thought handled well. At RA in the LMP2 I went from a 1:56 to a 1:52. Stock setups shouldn't be that bad. The PC2 tuner with its graphs for suspension travel really highlight how wonky and nonsensical almost all the stock setups are. Simply fixing the springs and suspension can lead to crazy time drops.

I have 600+ hours with PC2 here are my thoughts.
    The Good
-Car and track selection and overall price is arguably the best value in sim racing
    -Graphics are still good
-Weather and day night cycles are awesome
    The Bad
-AI are terrible for a litany of reasons that could be a video in itself
-Race rules are limited, no FCY, no saftey cars
-Class BoP is nonexistent especially with more classic categories and hurts diversity in online races, and creates predictable outcomes in offline races.
-Single player is limited and the career mode race conditions are scripted
-Damage model is super forgiving and allows for opterating temperatures that would destroy cars IRL. This leads to race pace being way quicker than RL
-Some car classes have no diversity and feel incomplete, while others have a good number of cars, but from a huge time span and they don't fit well together.
-Grid cap of 32 cars (or less) on some tracks leaves a lot to be desired
    The Neutral
-Modding is possible but it takes a lot of time and patience. I've been able to make realistic modern grids for IMSA and WEC as well as some retro grids from yester year with multiple custom liveries, but all these things took many many hours. To then have the AI under perform it takes the fun out of all this work.
Overall my personal feelings are that PC2 has the potential to be one of the best sim experiences, but SMS inability to stick with the game to iron out the issues and take it to the next level leave it in a place of mediocrity to some and to others good, but not great. I think for most casual racing fans PC2 is a great way to get into sim racing. It has a huge catalog of content and in terms of ease of use is probably the best or one of the best in sim racing (although that isn't saying much to be honest). If you're looking for a super hardcore experience that gives you all the options there are IRL this isn't the title for you for the cons I listed above.
Oh also the clutch was designed that way intentionally. People were complaining at release so Ian Bell made one of the developers simplify it to what it is today because of the moaners on the forum. It is buried somewhere on the SMS forums, so yeah that sucked.

    • @notdreadyet33

I probably spend more time in AC than in PC2, but I've come to appreciate PC2 more lately. They're both fantastic sims, as is AMS. I haven't spent much time in rF2 and don't own R3E.
The driving experience in AC reminds me of driving at my local kart track on their very slick track - very tail-happy, consistent handling where weight transfer is everything.
But when I go to a track day with high-performance road cars and have the same car/track combos in AC and PC2, PC2 actually comes closer to the real thing. It's still a ways off, but it's definitely closer to reality than AC is. With a few exceptions, the modern road cars in AC are way under-tired - the brakes lock way too easily under braking, and the car slides way too much under acceleration. PC2 captures the more planted, slightly understeery nature of road cars better. I get annoyed by the fact that EVERYTHING understeers in PC2, but in this specific instance it matches reality.
PC2 still has its big drawbacks. In addition to those mentioned in the video, I'd also say that the game in general is frustratingly inconsistent. It'll give you a great experience one race and a total turdburger the next.
We're lucky to be living in a golden age of sims. 15 years ago we thought this industry was dead.

As someone that drives this sim casually, I love it. On sale, it was cheap for all the content, and I haven't even accessed it all yet. I do have reservations about certain things, like the sound and weird handling of some cars but that's relatively minor because the bad sounds for me are only for certain cars and the same goes for the handling. I can do some tweaking in the setup to adjust the cars and for the ones that give me too much trouble, I just skip. There are far more cars I like to drive than those I don't.

Amazing, I agreed with everyone of your pros and cons along with your final conclusions. How often does that happen on the Interweb's? Project Cars 2 and Gran Turismo Sport were my gateway drugs into sim racing (even though I found PCars 2 hardly drivable with a controller). Once I found out you could mod several sims on a PC I built myself a rig and never looked back. Custom force feedback files definitely improve the driving experience but I still find it's way too easy to lose grip and I don't understand why you can't turn off track limits if you want to. And yes, the sounds are HORRIBLE especially in external replays, unless you like the sound of racing vacuum cleaners for some reason, lol.

Odd, I find the VR performs surprisingly well...it rivals ACC in terms of graphics but runs almost perfectly in VR where ACC would be a stuttering jagged mess on all low settings. Only time I find my machine struggling is in the middle of a lot of cars in a night race.

Just the ability to change cars in a room would annoy me .. physics was feeling very different difficult at times . maybe I was spoiled by the other game .. Absolutely a buy, one of my favorite sims due to beautiful graphics, outstanding VR, incredible depth of content and features, and one of the better career modes in modern sims. Doing a day-night transition race at Long Beach is just a gorgeous and sublime experience.
Yes, there are occasions in which the physics feel a bit shallow, but the latest custom FFB files (many thanks to the channel owner for the find) really help with this. Avoiding the terrible default setups is another thing that can definitely improve your experience with how the cars handle.

What i found helped me out when i started diving into these sims was to try not to expect it to feel exactly like my real life car. Go into it expecting to relearn how to drive each car. Go into practice mode and start with little subtleties like learning how the car responds with small little control inputs. I felt that when i tried driving the cars at first completely balls to the walls i ended up finding out real quick how bad of a driver i was INSIDE the game. Remember that in the real world you also get the input of physical forces that help give you an idea of where you are on the road. In the game, use the visual cues you see on the track to replace that "feeling" you get on the real road. Worked for me and now i try to watch real life race car drivers to see how they react in their cars depending on what they face on each track and environment.

I run PC2 on my PS4 and whilst it’s pretty good, it’s not great... The graphics are good, generally the physics appear to be good and the career mode is encouraging...
When I got PC2, it was proper step over to simracing (I hoped) and attempted to make the switch into manual gears and such. The bottom line is, I managed to get on well with the cockpit view and using the mirrors, etc.
I setup the wheel and gave it a dead zone (big mistake) and it felt like I was driving constantly on ice, after removing the dead zone completely (learning from mistakes) I found the response fairly intuitive.
The tyres are strange, some cars don’t properly warm slick racing tyres, the solution being use wet tyres (or slick/wet combo), even then, with some tyre/car combinations, the car doesn’t respond how it should do (read the car can spin out, with feet off throttle and brakes on the corner exit).
AI is stupid. You can hold the racing line and the AI will hit you. I’m not the greatest racer on the planet and have the aggression set fairly low, but on some races I’ve had AI cars slam into me, rather than allow me to defend, similarly, taking the racing line on a overtake and been slammed into, despite being ahead (on the racing line).
Poor button definition... I would like to be able to define fuel mixture onto a button, it doesn’t appear I can do so.. Also, I can’t set my pit stop tyre choice, without setting a strategy (prior to the race, I need to ensure there is a pit strategy in place should I want wet or slick tyres. In a mixed weather career race, I went for a stop, after being told that wet tyres were available for me, to be sent back out on slicks...

I got PC 2 in the humble monthly deal and I've got to say even if I got it during a steam sale I would have been happy with the title.
One of the biggest problems I've had with it was the track limits until recently when I've attempted to join an online racing league and every time I've entered a social race and even tried to help out with one of their league races the game either disconnected me for no apparent reason, or the game would just flat out crash on me. However, saying all that I probably play this more than Assetto Corsa in the last few months because it's so much fun to create crazy weather situations (like the weather at the WEC 6 Hours of Spa) and the whole day to night cycle is stunning.

@SimRacing604..I think the reason ppl have problems is because they don't know to set up ffb..and ever car has it's own dynamic feel....so it's a learning experience to real world race..which I admire in this sim..once u get it right it's the business!!.

I bought it and I play it ...because each SIM game is worth imo.
    And was cheap , only 19euros .

I generally find this the best PC simracing game out there
It has a lot of content for good value and the physics and handling within the car are great. You can even get custom FFB files to customize it to your taste
This is my most played sim with rfactor 2 being the second most played. To be fair, I believe PCARS 2 is kinda similar to rfactor 2 in a way with more believable dynamic weather physics (rfactor 2 makes wet driving almost impossible to drive fast at times) but I still believe rfactor 2 is the undisputed king in driving overall. They just need to tweak rain grip and an active community that isn't entirely league based to sell it to me. Also DLC is too pricey.
I think the hate of this game is undeserved at times when many sims have limitations compared to this game.

Yes but it's not a sim

@@LorenzoClara97 what's a sim to you then? what are the requirements of a racing game to be a sim?
for me personally, a game that makes driving harder than real life to the point where street cars in a simulation difficult does not constitute to realism
harder to drive on a ffb wheel with limited forces to communicate with compared to IRL is not realistic, it's just BS.

I agree 100%. I love PC2 but the sound compared to ACC is horrible and I like single player, and the AI in PC2 is also horrible compared to ACC. I like how ACC gives you warnings first but PC2 kills your race if you make one little error.

sky194 yeah, I’ve thrown away many races thanks to AI errors. I wanted to do a 50% Indy 500 race, but the concept of driving in such close quarters to the AI for a long time gave me anxiety.

@@SimRacing604 yea the AI with PC2 always runs off the track in front of me, I mean the AI can't even go straight. While not perfect at least in ACC the AI will actually guard the inside if you are closing in ,to make it tuffer. I miss GTE racing so I'm looking at getting rfactor 2.
