Where are the people who complain about foreigners stealing their jobs?

They were given away more than taken. There are a lot of benefits to companies hiring seasonal workers from outside of the country. Trump did it himself.

NO work....no pay. Shut off freebies and hungry people will go back to work.

AND WHY CAN WE IN THE USA NOT DO IT? not enough people who are able to council? That sounds ridicules. Maybe the owner can't afford to train the ppl for the position? The same employees would return every year. They need to invest more.

In Australia, we do our bronze medallion (life saver qualifications) at school, along with a tonne of other "training" that councillors need. We don't do it for that, we do it cause it's good life skills. We also encourage our young people to travel & see the world to learn about it. What that means is that there's a tonne of Aussie 18 year olds with the required qualifications to be camp councillors who are keen to take a gap year & backpack around the world, including working at summer camps in the US as part of their life/travel experience & if accommodation & food is included in the package, they'll do it for not huge wages too.
So removing the pandemic from the picture, it makes much more sense for camps to hire Aussie kids as councillors, as they're in abundant supply & have no fixed rents or anything like that they need to worry about & are happy to spend a few months there before moving on to Canada or Europe to continue their travels.
Same system as how so many young Europeans & Canadians travel to Australia to spend a year on the "harvest trail", picking fruit & veg, again for pretty low wages. It just makes much more sense to keep the plentiful supply of fresh, pre-trained labour coming through than to train labour for the camp & then have to figure out what to do with them for the rest of the year, so as to somehow have them available for the duration of summer camps again each year

@@mehere8038 interesting thx I know nothing about this. I just think a lot of Americans are free to improve their skills and chose not to.
I took Outward Bound Sch in northern Minnesota in 1978 for 3 weeks. Our group of 8 in 3 canoes along the Canadian border, was led by a tall muscular Aussie lady about 25, named Alwenne. I got my first kiss bc I was the odd one out for CPR training... She was pretty cool., I also hiked Isle Royal in lk Superior for a week, loved YMCA camps every summer, and was a Boy Scout. I appreciate the dedication my counselors exhibited.

@@mjimih lol that's some cool stories there, love it :)
I can't really comment on Americans & skills, I mean not all Aussies will do this stuff, but quite a lot will, no idea how that compares to America with organisations like the Scouts that would train up quite a lot of your kids.
One of the big programs here is the "Duke of Edinburgh program", which is obviously a Commonwealth country program, but a lot of teens do it & it gives good diverse skills in adventure & service, plus we have scouts & similar & school programs too.
There's companies here that do the whole package for school leavers to go to America as camp councillors. They set up the jobs, the visas & everything they need to do it & they recruit by talking about "do you have .............?" (referring to a list of stuff that everyone here has & takes for granted) & then telling them that they're in high demand for having such rare skills & encouraging them to apply to go to America as a camp councillor. Now obviously that's recruitment rather than facts, but still, it's a popular activity for teens here to do, especially as a first trip abroad alone, since everything's organised for them & they're going into a semi-supervised environment, so parents feel really comfortable with them doing it too. Plus of course the parents & kids know there will be a lot of other Aussies there, so it really is a safe way to experience independence & travel abroad :) & the kids from here that do it tend to really want & love the idea of being the "adult" & caring for younger kids & really do go with the idea in mind that they're going to have this really big, positive influence over the kids & give them a really great camp too. We have lots of mentor type programs in schools here, so all the kids also fully understand how those work, even if they haven't personally been a mentor & they certainly go with the idea that this is their chance to really show what they're made of & really excel in caring for the kids at the camp :) So it's all round a great match

The bullcrap excuse made by the guy, they just didn't want to "spread their wings" at camp? Gitdafuqouttahere... Everyone's saying these camping businesses prefer bringing in cheap foreign labor. But here's the deal. If the two featured camp counselors are representatives, that means most of them are from UK, Ireland, EU, Aus, Can, where wages are actually higher than in the US. No, these overseas camp counselors aren't coming here for the money, but for travel and experience . . . which does go back square one.
