You earn more Exp by blowing off the limbs first. Also the range attacks miss quite often especially early on. The most powerful attack is when you unlock the switch weapons ability with two high powered 7 shot machine guns. The game is easy due to being able to easily earn money in the battle arena.

    Dude, no need to apologize.
    You weren't a downer. You're good.
Sometimes, the game won't resonate with you, maybe it's not as good as the hype, or it's a straight-up mess. That's fine.
I'd rather hear your honest appraisal of the game, good or bad, than have you limit the scope of your reviews to "positive only", as some do. That's crap. 😄

The other super fami game is really good -Front Mission Gun Hazard. It's a creative game. It combines rpg, text adventure, and platformer. It's not easy and allows for different play styles. There's more than one way to optimize your mech.

  • @crism8868

Outlandish that this wasn't localized. The game would have sold well in the US just by the spectacle of those explosions. Who cares about plot, or challenge, or whatever, when the explosions look this good

The reason I like this game is mostly the presentation and aesthetics. I think an snes game with this much unit customization and the entire presentation of the mech is absolutely amazing. It was also fun to min max in creating units that shredded everything in their way. I believe the first time I played I did the long range thing and that wasn't too great. It was a lot more fun watching people swiss cheese with the double machine guns.

All of these things make it seem like a pretty nice starting point for anyone unfamiliar with tactical RPGs. I'd sooner take a game that allows you to steamroll through if you know what you're doing than one that arbitrarily restricts you with convoluted systems and artifical difficulty unless you have a guide to make the right choices (looking at you, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance).

This game was actually localized in the States years later but it came out on the DS. I played and beat it there and it has 2 campaigns from what I remember. Not sure if that was in the original. I was challenged as a kid playing the game, but I also threw myself into close quarter battles because I wanted a very diverse team. More of a self-imposed difficulty.

Very fair review of the game, I just want to add that the PSX/NDS remake of the game added a second campaign that was not present in the original SFC version. This new campaign is much more challenging and has a much better story.

This just popped up in my feed, glad to see someone tackling all the SNES RPGs because #1 there are a ton of em' and #2 there are many hidden gems here, especially Japan exclusives the best of which have fan translation patches available. Can't wait to see more, as this was well done as well. instant sub.

I find it funny how in the Switch remake (at least in the earily park) missles are nerfed. Even if my accuracy is maybe 68 percent, the missles hit maybe 35 percent of the time. So i think that's probably the hardest version

pretty on point, at first i was disappointed to see the short runtime, but thinking about it more, there's really not that much to this first entry. i tried playing it twice, one as the translated snes ROM like 20 years ago and again when it got the DS rerelease in english. I got stuck both times on some mission and never went back to try it twice, its just a not very exciting game. i did play Front Mission 4 on PS2 and that was an awesome game with deep combat, great customization and very engrossing story rife with political intrigue and espionage through two parallel campaigns from the different factions

I am sure that they spent plenty of cash on market research, american's buying cycles, and what was in the market at the time. I find most of the Japanese gatekeeping of the 80s and 90s to be appropriate, but there are glaring exceptions here are there; such as Secret of Mana 2 and Terranigma!

    • @Shishkebarbarian
      @Shishkebarbarian 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@chriskoschik391 to be fair as sad as I am about those never making it here, that was a good business decision. Sales by 96 slowed down on the SNES to a crawl. US was marching confidently into the 32bit 3d era. Games like Chrono trigger and earthbound sold terribly and we're getting clearanced out in many locations (hence the rarity). Those two would've lost money here for sure.

I enjoyed what I played of the DS version. From listening to you, I think the answer to why you don't care about this game is taste. A 'gritty' mech srpg is pretty niche. If someone likes that and doesn't like fantasy, this would likely appeal to them where Shining Force may not.
I don't think you're reviews would come across as "shi**** on games people love" as you think if some of the hybebole was toned down. Sorry for the unsolicited advice. Enjoy the channel.
Now, Front Mission 3, I loved. Lot more varied personality in that one, some very interesting and ahead of their time concepts/themes (you find out a bunch of lore and background surfing and primitive internet in game).

I like this game but of the main series Front Mission games I've played (1, 3, and 4) its my least favorite. And I hate mandatory permadeath is SRPGs so I consider that lack a good thing. IMO permadeath should be an option for those looking for more of a challenge not the default mode in a game like this.

If you've any willingness, I'd highly rec trying out the alternative campaign what's fully available in JUST the NDS rerelease of Front Mission. Was 100% in your boat thinking the main game was something of a snoozefest, but that second campaign has way tighter stage design, a way more interesting story, and near no chaff re: superfluous party members or repetitive stages. Don't need to unlock it either, just dump it in a flashcart and go to town. Still only a 7/10, but compared to the base's 5/10...

In the last generation of table rpg players, the term "murder hobo" arised. Basically, a player using a player's plot armor (that used to not be a thing) of being a player mixed with behaving as an unbound selfish psychopath makes for a coasting path through many game settings if the referee of the game does not pull the handbreak and make a bs example out of them.
Tactics ogre motbq allows you to be a murder hobo as a commander and not engage with the game and easy your way through. Surviving on low reputation and exploiting the populace instead of protect them. That gets you a bad ending, as you get what you give. I would say that kind of makes the ending arguement for that game specifically valid.

Gotta love how in Front Mission Evolved and Left Alive, Wanzer is pronounced with a W sound and not a V sound. And now with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in Japanese Cait Sith is pronounced like it is in Gaelic...but were supposed to trust localization teams with Japanese when they showcased they have zero knowledge of languages in the same Indo European tree as thier native tounge and in the case Germanic the next branch over.
Show the English voice director of Front Mission Evolved and Left Alive the track listing of SaGa Frontier II and watch them melt like the wicked witch of the west.

Shining Force is infinitely better. Look at how ugly the colors are on Front Mission, and SNES was supposed to be superior to Sega in that department. The battles aren’t overly difficult but they involve more strategy and dying is a risk at times.
