Actually if you look closely, the mechanical creation looks nothing like the monster but instead looks more like a four legged dragon.
I wonder why he chose that design...
Maybe it encountered a dragon who looked like that hundreds or thousands of years ago, and at the time Ahtal-ka thought that was the strongest dragon to ever exist so it (unconsciously?) tried to replicate it...

Mattia Berti Ukanlos and akantor are classified flying wyverns because they're descendants of older flying wyverns, but now they have gotten too big to fly, look at akantor's arms and you'll see small wings.
Akantor and Ukanlos have vestigial wings, much like how humans have vestigial tail bones.

I always thought dalamadur had that short of arabic/mozarabic inspiration. A massive serpent that twists monstains into shapes that resemble solomonic columns, the "stars" falling from the sky referring to astronomy and astrology, the armors inspired in christian crusaders and arabic warriors, the battle OST. The name itself sounds like from western asia.
Speaking of that, you know what Aksa (the switch axe) means? I don't know if is another arabic name, but I'm curious for know it.

Absolutely love this monster design. Easily the most dynamic fight yet in a MH game, what a great concept (little bug building a giant mecha) and a beautiful execution. I am SO PUMPED to fight this guy! #MHXXForTheWest

The armor has a skill which increases points towards all skills by 2 and another skill that DOUBLES YOUR TALISMAN SKILL POINTS. Those are the only two skills it has, alongside a bunch of slots. It kinda fits the monster, since this means the power of the set doesn't lie in the armor itself, but in your gems and talismans (your treasures!)
People are gonna have a lot of fun using this set.
Well, I know I will have a lot of fun since I focus a ton on talismans and gems. Now, time to wait patiently for the game to be translated and shipped 8330 Km through the internet since I will download it digitally.
loving ryona I know that, but I'd rather 1: Have another 3DS I can downgrade and 2: Have a version that doesn't require me to translate it every so often or learn Japanese (Too lazy to bother). I do plan on getting the firmware at some point since I don't want to use money on buying Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 or the third remake if it comes out on 3ds.

seriously, it looks similair, it caries something on it's back, it has the same color, and it hords stuff, only this thing doesnt hord food.

but even looking at the art on the wiki, thier body structure is almost identical, accept for the fact this thing has arm thingies

Honestly I always get confused whether Gog or Dala was the final boss of 4U
so from what I've been hearing, you know how everybody was originally thinking this was the Equal Dragon Weapon?
well from what sources I've found, it technically IS. The EDW we're used to is just a concept, after all. The EDW has just decayed to an extreme point it is no longer self sustaining, and Atoraru-ka in all of her brilliance found out how to manipulate this using her silk.
I really do hope with this becoming true, Monster Hunter continues to expand on its lore regarding the Ancient Civilization. Would absolutely love fighting a fully functional one.... but then again, I feel that's something only those lucky bastards who play Frontier are going to get when they keep exploring that Sky Corridor (I believe that's what it is called).
still a damn cool boss and I love how it ties in lore at the same time.
It isn't the EDW, the EDW is made of other dragons, this is a structure made out of pieces of ancient buildings and weapons the mantis hoarded for years.
Putting the original EDW in MHXX would be lore unfriendly, and I think considering it was made out of Dragons, who are organic creatures, it would've turned into a fossil or it would've decayed.
Pherioxus true, but to counter the EDW we're used to is just a concept art.
Secondly, I believe there's evidence here that suggests this Atoraru-ka is a special case. I mean, think about it. an entire race of bugs that develops mechanized puppets from scratch? Monster Hunter has always been about realism wherever possible. The theory that there is an entire race of bugs that have their own puppets that they made from scratch just feels far too far fetched. it just about the same as calling them sentient. that in and if itself is definitely not fitting of MH.
TBH granted lore I feel the only monsters that could "get away with" being called sentient are the fatalis trio. there's just too much evidence here in this fight, and from knowing the series, that keeps me from believing this puppet is 100% scratch. again I think there's far too much evidence that there is some sort of "base undercarriage" to the puppet, especially including the amount of fabrication I see in some parts.
I really do love this monster regardless, and the fight alone is great, but I just don't know how it fits into the MH world. hopefully like with Gogma and Nakarkos, Capcom releases some ecology info later. if they do confirm this puppet is from scratch.... well, then it will definitely disturb me. I think this monster's likeability for me will plummet, do too how much that just doesn't fit with the series.
I absolutely love how every Monster Hunter final boss is supposed to represent an era of mankind:
Ceadeus [3]: Oceanic and deep-sea exploration.
Alatreon [3U]: Worship of nature's elements as (Greek) Gods.
Dalamadur [4]: Worship of Reptilian (Mesopotamian) Gods.
Gogmazios [4U]: War for oil (Middle East)
Narkarkos [X]: Neanderthalic rituals of (African) Shamans with bones of the dead.
Atlar-Ka [XX]: Industrial Revolution

Zinogre since it was announced became my favorite monster and this maybe become the second ... this boss its epic in all the ways, battle, music and appearance its perfect ... nice hunt and video GH ;)
I like that some of the newer "boss" monsters that the hunting guild discovers are getting a bit more intelligent. We had Nakarkos which fought with various monster remains both as armor and weapons, now there is a mantis that animates huge pieces of scrap metal using its webbing like a puppeteer. I can't wait to see more crazy cool monster concepts in the future!
So, this monster is quite egocentric or something. She's really smart even though it's a simple neopteron, and her battle mecha is almost modeled after her, showing she is self aware and almost feels like she wants to feel imponent and overwhelming to others. Yet she still devours her male mate and doesn't give a fuck. Her body also looks golden colored, resembling a pharaoh, also a color associated with divinity.
Short of a smart psycho we have here.

Personally, what I really enjoy about mh and its monsters is that they are somewhat believable. There is never really any "magic" involved. All the aspects of the monsters are just biological function from real life blown out of proportion.
Of course, this monster stretches the suspension of disbelief somewhat, which I kinda dislike (which is why I don't really like monsters like the alatreon or shagaru magala as well), yet the idea is just so novel that I can't help but be hyped. This looks fantastic and the devs keep surprising me with their creativity.
Does anyone else feel the same way about the monsters from mh? Or am I alone in this opinion?

The Will of G Well there are species of crabs that actually transplant anemene onto themselves to use as defence. And spiders have made some very complex things with their webs. (including this one species that can weave a decoy spider in their web) This is jusy those things put those together and blown out of proportion.

flamingknight11 Yeah that's why I am on the fence with it. The robot thing for example feels a little too much for me. I like the concept overall though.
The thing about this final boss is, it doesn't have an one-hit KO it, but the damage it makes is so damn quick to add up. And this is one of those fight that getting hit is unavoidable.
I was hoping it was the EDW, but this is also really cool!
Also, imagine if this was just a "Seltas" of its species and there was still a queen version still out there with a bigger fortress.

I'm actually crying from the epicness this is awesome.
This is the cutest final boss for any monster hunter, hands down. I did not see it coming but it's a really cool design and the tiny little bug pupeteering that huge mech is just adorable.

i'm pretty sure the idea of the robot phase is that you destroy the threads that's holding the parts together so it falls apart, wich would explain why tose webs and flower things are weak points. they are threads, they are the threads the monster made so it could control the robot and so it stays together
I'm liking the new score for MHXX. Really uplifting and heighten your spirit during fight.
I like it when they push the edge of (") realism (") and things feel over the top, yet you can still see it's not bland magic, but creative fantasy
So could this mantis be controlling what remains of an ancient equal dragon weapon? Maybe they will actually introduce one in mh5 and they are just testing if we like it or not!

The EDW is primarily made out of organic components, it's practically a flesh golem. The thing the mantis controls is cobbled together out of machinery and rubble.
well, the ancient Civilization Lore is actually canon, and is used in some other games like Frontier (IIRC), where there is even a Monster from that time, that was the only one that humans saw as their equal and thus let it be part of their society. And there are many, many ancient Civilization Ruins in the Monster Hunter Games. Also, the EDW is the reason why Monsters, specifically Wyverns and such, attacked humans as humans used Monster Corpses in order to get those machines to work. One EDW needs HUNDREDS of dead wyverns to get it to work. It is also the reason why Fatalis attacked the humans, and melted their bodys onto his own skin, to do to them what they do to the Monsters: Wearing them as Fashion/Armor and weapons.
Also, there is one EDW discovered by the hunters guild that they are studying. So there is a possibility that there are more, and that Atlal is using the remains of one in order to fight. but instead of Monster Corpses, it uses it's webs to control it like a puppeteer!
As a heads up, the lore for her confirms she just raids fortresses.
So this is like "What if we made... the shitty insect monster from 4 ultimate, the seltas.... A fucking god."

I like how MHXX had a neopteran as the final boss, I feel like 4th generation really put the neopterans into the spot light. Even Seltas and Seltas Queen were pretty unique. However I do wish CAPCOM would incorporate more mammals other than the Pelagus. More Fanged Wyverns are needed as well.

Actually Atlal Ka's lore confirms that the mech is actually just assembled from scrap that she hoarded.
I still don't get why Uka and Akantor are flying wyverns. At most they should be pseudowyverns since their wings have retrogressed.

tyrant351 A Pseudowyvern is still under the Flying Wyvwrn class. They're called Pseudowyvern for being more developed for quadripedal movement.
"But Lilligant they don't have wings." Ahhh... But they have underdeveloped bone structure for wings, much like the tail bone in humans.
I quite like that it looks like they've mixed the "will genuinely whoop your ass, even if you know how the fight works" of the smaller Elder Dragons and the awe inspiring but often not gracefully aging "HOW AM I GOING TO FIGHT THIS THING" of the larger Elder Dragons.
The music for this fight is very similar to Narkarkos - in a good way! I do think a lot of the end bosses themes are great but theres this sort of strife/struggle theme coming from the music like something not dissimilar to a Romantique era piece.
I dont know why this stands out more to me. The music feels less of like a backdrop to the fight or even like the signature of the monster, it feels like something the hunter is feeling. Really cool.
Gaijin, when you were trying to pick up the shiny drop and the other hunter kicked you, I think he was trying to help you. Not completely sure because they were a little late, but you can cancel someone else's animation for receiving an item/sharpening a weapon/eating early if you kick them.
A seltas, nerscylla, dalamadur, dahren morhan, a few mech suits, a pharaoh and a mantis walk into a bar...
I was really surprised by the originality of this thing! The entire fight in general seemed very different from most other hunts in the franchise. Now, if only the game weren't locked at 30fps...
Besides that, though, I think XX is a massive step up from Cross. The four flagship monsters were cool, but with only Dinovaldo having a deviant form, it kinda took the spotlight from the other 3, and Narkarkos, while pretty cool and creepy, failed to challenge hunters in anything other than patience. But now, we not only got the hyper-aggressive Valfalk (new favourite monster right there!), but an over-the-top super mantis with Atlal Ka, as well! And then we have Gunlance Sty- I mean, Brave Style, Alchemist Style, berserker prowlers, and so many tweaks that make hunting and farming so much more enjoyable!
Now we only need to wait for CAPCOM to bring this over to us, and we're set for another great hunting season!

Why was everyone expecting the end boss being the EDW? Though I do know some story of it, I didn't see all releases about MHXX. Was there some kind of statement which ´hinted that we MIGHT fight that thing. Or is it purely based on bias and hopes?

I really love this monster. It's a very refreshing idea (though I didn't knew, Mantis would be able to produce strings :p). I'd also like to fight the EDW though it seems to me like this would be some kind of UBER ENDBOSS which shouldn't be placed inside a game which is NOT part of the Main-Series.

I like that for the final stage they made a new version of the MH theme, nice touch
Going to be honest, Atoraru Ka could EASILY be puppetearing the husk of a four legged Equal Dragon Weapon. It was stated they needed to constantly kill elder dragons to stay alive, and the flesh from this one could have simply detirriorated over time, leaving only the armor. That, or Atoraru Ka could have been eating away at it for god knows how long...

Why no healing on your cat though? Even regular herb horn if not health one can do wonders and save you acorns and carts
Gog was pretty boring 'till phase two.
Gog was pretty boring regardless of it's phase, even phase two was just moderately good. It just had too much HP so the fight got really boring, especially if you tried to solo it...
Dire Miralis was fantastic instead!
Dire Miralis while a slow fight is surprisingly one of the coolest fights in the series, although for me Lucent Narga is the best! Third best would have to be White Fatty in MH4U because of the really addicting theme and the dragon lightning spam, plus a fun monster overall and after that perhaps Amatsumagatsuchi in 3rd. It's sad when out of all the cool monsters they pick something that boring, a wall of HP that hardly does any damage except with weird attacks is never a fun fight
+Tho tho then both DLC quests upped the tediousness in different ways. Shame they're the only way to unlock the Dire Miralis armor in 4 Ultimate.
one thing i love about this game is the bgm, it always matches the battle that makes it more epic

Ice Bear That's why I said it is the EDW in my head cannon, I know unless they confirm it it is not but, tbh, this is the closest thing we are gonna get to have the EDW to appear in the game. Also it is a lot more fun to think that way, at least for me.
The EDW is a bio-mechanical weapon, though. Like a Frankenstein's monster dragon. This thing is just a bunch of pieces of ruined buildings and stuff.

Prince Kazuya Of MHX or MHXX? Because first, I'm not a dataminer, and second I heard about the mantis by a Monster Hunter Amino blog about a guy who got a picture of all the monsters of MHXX before is released, and it said one of them looks like a mantis. I tried to see if was true but the picture was very small and it was to pixelated for see in my mobile so I thought is just fake.
But is looks like it was real after all.

Looks like such an epic fight. Will definitely be hoping and waiting for it to be released to NA. I love the Egyptian/Arabic theme to this, especially since seeing Nefu Garumudo in Stories. I do wonder if CAPCOM will have another Egyptian Elder Dragon, perhaps like the two-headed cobra from the original sketches.
