@@GovnaBuckingham The FedEx near us starts you out at $17-$18/hour and we're not in a major city area(lower cost of living)... so not sure what you're talking about. I'm making $20/hr at a local distribution center and plenty of OT is offered.
@Danny Becker If all you want to do is be a basic worker yeah that's right---but I've seen a guy who made plans to be a regional manager in less than 2 years at a place like McDonald's and they'd be fine. You just have to plan ahead whether you work for McDonald's or any other company for that matter(or yourself).

Sadly this is the life for alot of people. Work themselves literally to death without ever getting a chance to wake up one day and not worry about having finances. The day I can wake up and not worry about an emergency ruining me or worrying about paying a bill is the day I can start living.
I've got bad news then. Everybody worries about their money. That is why Bill Gates goes to the office every day. He may have different worries, but worries none the less. The best you can hope for is to get to a secure place financially, where your worries no longer consume you. But yeah, we all have worries.
True happiness comes from being happy about what you have, not what you could get. If you have a dollar you already have 100% more than 0 dollars. That's a start.

Sadly I didn’t feel that way . I feel bad for her but why is she entitled not to work ? She puts it all on her husband. Why can’t she work part time on his days off or work at night ? We all have kids and have to figure it out so we can take care of them

They're paying $30,000 a year for 60 hours a week labor. That's about $10 an hour for their own son, if there are no vacations. I do agree with Miss Weinstein, though, that he can get a different job. Maybe learn a higher-paying skill.
I don't get the husband's pay. I work in the grocery business and butchers are the best paid. It's an in demand skill in Canada anyway. Other grocery stores try to entice butchers away with higher pay offers.
@@mcruz2357 In a grocery store, there are different pay scales for different jobs. This is her parents running very small operation (which probably means just her husband) and it sounds as though they're guilting him into staying in a poorly paying, dead-end job.

Lots of young guys I work with who have young children, their wives take in a couple of kids during the week. They make anywhere from $500-1000+. Add that to what you save on daycare your self, and you come out way ahead. But even her job at the library netted her $30 a day after daycare expenses...that is 5 x 30 = 150, 150 x 52 = $7,800 a year. When you are making $30,000, that $7800 is a 25% increase, and that is huge.

Neyssa People know what needs to be done. I don't know why the call the show. Your advice, my advice and Dave's advice will not be substantially different. Couples I know who have young children often take in a kid or two during the week. Take in 2 kids at $150per and that is $300 a week (you can even make that tax free, wink). $300 x 52 = $15,600. When you make 30K that 15K is a 50% increase...which is huge.

hi marie,
1) research your state laws on home daycare's and what legal paper work or license you need.
2) you can only have up to 6 kids to each employee so keep that in mind. If you want more kids than just 6 you'll have to hire someone
3)research your competition in your area, like their prices, what they provide, and the reviews on google.
4) figure how much you want to charge (the younger the kid the more you can charge, but the older the kid it isn't as much)
5) also figure out what you'll provide like meals and activities
6) advertise. What i did was make 200 mini flyers for cars and houses, and tear a tab flyers for store and other local places. Put what you charge, how to contact you for a meeting, times and days your open, what you provide, things like that on the flyer.
7) make sure you research any people that have a criminal record with kids before you pass out flyers to houses. and meet in public places like parks and restaurants when meeting the parents. DONT put the exact address of the daycare on the flyer because then creeps will exactly know. Have kid register papers ready to print off for parents if they want to enroll their child. Pinterest helped me with so many ideas and what papers i need for parents. Besides all of this do research to better other daycare's. And make it known that your a home daycare because most parents want their kid in a fun but a more home familiar scene. make sure you have the right papers for the parents and if you employ someone make sure its the right papers. Goodluck. Also watch videos on youtube on what to do. Like i would watch the process on how to start a home daycare up and the day in the life of a daycare teacher to get ideas. Sorry if there are miss spelled words i was in a rush but remember research is key.

She doesnt have to be licensed or registered. Granted she wont get paid as much until she does but she can get all that done later when she saves up. There are alot of great babysitters who are not registered or licensed and they are great options.

Thats idiotic, you need to have a talk with Mike Rowe.
It would mean find a better way to do something, so that you can do more of it in the same amount of time [or less], rather than doing more by spending more time.
For example, I have some counterparts who will build some data to produce a report for one of our ~80 markets. The report gets around to other markets and they'd like it to. My counterpart spends 30 minutes end-to-end for the one market and starts adding more, until they get to 8-10 markets and are spending most of their day on it and don't have time for the rest of their job.
Then these things usually find their way to me and I build some automation, that collects and processes the data, generates the output report and either saves it to a share linked on the Intranet or emails them out to distribution lists.
When it's all said and done, I probably have a couple of dozen hours invested in development and QC, but the automated system can churn out all 80 markets in under an hour.
That is working smarter rather than harder.

As a young man I have worked several jobs like that. And when I quit for one that pays slightly better the boomer boss acts like I just ran over his dog.
Simple switch from National guard to Active. Its definitely going to help with the financial aspect especially when he works hard instead of work smart.

It just occurred to me that she could go work for her father and become a butcher. It's his shop, he could train her. That would allow the husband to seek a better job. It's her father's shop for Christ sake. The husband could work part time on weekends to help out the shop, and find an equal if not better paying job. Now they are making $60,000 + what ever the hubby can earn on the weekends in the shop. There will be maybe some childcare costs depending on their hours, but in a few years those cost would come way down after the kids start school. Sounds like a pretty good solution all the way around to me.

Stephanie if you read this a few miles from Evensville is a town called Newburgh Indiana. There is a store called Traderbakers. They rent booths for $160 a month. Go to auctions and buy what goes cheap. Keep your booth packed. Mid summer is the slow time, but you should be able to do at least $400 a month per booth.
This is deeper than a income problem, this is deeper than a debt problem, there is a serious problem with our economic system and the overall cost of everything so high that it is killing everyone just to be able to afford to live below average. THATS UNACCEPTABLE!

What does average mean now days? A newer car, the latest iPhone, 80" tv with satellite, super computer with wifi, Air Jordon's, Nike gear.... Lot's of things that eat your money, that you can live without. Just saying!
Not true. There are plenty of jobs that do not require college degrees that pay between 50-100,000 a year. I am a high school drop out with a GED and make 60k a year and in 4-5 years will be making 100-140,000 a year. Do research on potential jobs that you're interested in. College degrees don't always mean more money, there's a nation wide shortage of skilled trade work that don't require experience or degrees. You can make it in this world with some heart, a hard work ethic, and some drive. Just my 2 cents.
This is actually the first video, that i personally related to. My husband and I are hard workers but didn't understand enough about finances. We now have short term goals to help is get to long term goals of better Financial Freedom. But when our income was so low and we were struggling it was hard to believe we could do it. Today being said I now have grown children that can help babysit while we are working. My husband and I are currently bury working multiple jobs. to increase income and has some control over our schedules for family time. Glad to hear her say her husband would do anything for her if the work together. They will go far! Blessings to them and their family.

She can help finances right away by starting her own house cleaning service. Here in Florida, which is very low wage (construction = $12 hr), house cleaners and "companions" (shopping, transporting, cooking, light housekeeping) get $20-$25 per hour all day long. She can schedule her own hours, turn down any jobs she doesn't want, and in this area, you don't even need a license or permit. The women (they are all women) I know who do this stay booked with work - more than they can handle. If you can clean, cook, shop and do laundry, you're good to go. Advertise with Craigslist, your local flyer, or local home health agencies. Post notices in your laundromats. If you get into an apartment building with seniors, you are home free. She can work in the evenings so he can watch the kids if she wants, or on his days off.
$1640 a month for 2 kids in childcare here in Indiana where I live.... not affordable for the blue collar worker.

It depends what stage you are in life. 30k a year for a low to medium skilled worker who is single is good money. If you are trying to take care of a family obviously that isn't enough. At a minimum, your household should be earning around 55-60k to manage a family of 3 comfortably.

Yes and not everyone should start a family or sign up to take care of a wife if they aren't financially secure yet. People can do whatever job they like, but it has to be valued enough by the market economy to be worthwhile in order for you to earn a decent living. All these menial jobs are getting more and more automated. Skilled day care workers can make a killing though in all these cities with high childcare demand.
Stephanie, after you and your husband talk,sit down with your parents,and just explain things to them. Hopefully they will be understanding, and hire someone that your husband can train before he parts ways with them. It will all work out! Prayers for your family!

I would suggest getting a side hustle. I did Ebay one year and I made $25,000 part time. Start a side business like mowing grass, paint, pressure wash , eBay , house cleaning. There are endless opportunities to make more money.

Sounds as though he needs to go to a trade school. In our twenties with two children & while hubby was on unemployment/me babysitting to make extra money, my husband finished a trade school for HVAC. It was rough for about 2 years til he graduated but it was the best move we both ever made for our family.

I have known a lot of people who work super hard and have nothing. That's why people say work smart not hard. However, if you work really hard at working smart is where you will become super rich.
I use to work harder one full time job and two part time. Really didn’t save much. I went full time trade school and work graveyard shift full time for 4 months. now I’m making more than all three jobs I did before. Just work smarter.. now I have extra money to save.

Seems like the husband doesn’t have focus, plan or goals! Seriously he’s got his head down plugging away not stopping and looking up to see what’s going on around him and seeking opportunities. So many ppl live their life without goals! Set a monthly income goal and find the way to get yourself there.

He is hoping by plugging away things will resolve themselves, which of course they don't. You're right, he needs to pick his head up and see what else is around. I currently work as a seasonal driver for UPS, and my goodness, people can get stuck in the mindset of just being just a delivery driver, since the money and benefits are good. But one just ends up as a delivery robot. and it;'s all based on seniority. IT doesn't matter how good you are, you have to bide your time. F that. Not good for someone who wants something more in life.

One thing I've seen over 20 years of being and employer - people have their own ideas of what "hard work" is. Some of my guys threaten to leave and open their own shops in an effort to extort me for more pay,... have at it brother. If you're willing to work as hard as I have, you deserve every penny. Not ONE has created a viable business yet. Hard work = pain and sacrifice, two things most people hate. I don't care how "smart" you work, if you're not willing to suffer in the short run for long-term gains, you'll never succeed.

vale v thank you. I appreciate this as practical advice. Thing about cutters is, you’re always on the company schedule and from week to week the shifts might differ greatly. My hubs has been in this and grocery management for many years - just the nature of the beast. I’ve been looking to work from home and create opportunities around that flexible schedule. And there are some and we’ll make it, but...
What I mean is, some days he opens, others he closes, some days he’s split shift, and others he’s mid shift. We live in a tourist area so the hours are cut back or beefed up depending on the time of year “in season”... it’s a bit of at the mercy of the corporation but we are finding ways to manage and work around that. Writing, walking dogs, washing cars. Every $20 helps...
My sister works 4 am to 12 pm her husband works 10 pm to 7 am. It's exhausting for them but they have 4 kids and that's the only thing that works.
My aunt and uncle are nurses - they have managed to work different shifts so that one of them was always home with their daughter (now a teenager).

Then they'd be living off the system. He is the head of household, the man. It's his job to take care of the income. It's his responsibility to provide for them and it's her responsibility to care for the home and the children. He needs to work for someone other than her parents. He should also take advantage of the gi bill and get paid to go to school. That will not only supplement the income, but he then lands himself a career where he make 60k+ per year and is able to have a life.
Well as someone who gets disability and is on government assistance I would not suggest that she do that because once you get on government assistance it is very hard to get off of it because of something called the cliff effect.

They would be fine if they didn't have kids. The best financial advice I know is don't have kids until you at least $2000 extra a month after all expenses. That way some of that extra money can go towards childcare and you still have some breathing room

I feel for this girl and her family. Vulnerability like this on a show is actually a beautiful thing. I wholeheartedly believe that they can make it work. BUT what matters is if they believe it. I know this is not a solution specifically, but I would recommend continuing your search for knowledge. She says she is reading his book- and that is great. When she finishes this one, read another one- work on personal development and the money will work itself out in time. Watch Tony Robbins, Jim Rohn, Tom Bilyeu, Ed Mylett videos or podcasts and YOU will begin to grow more. You will be amazed at how much different they think than "average" people. When you begin to think differently, you will find opportunities others do not see. All of that being said- Dave is right, and I hope her and her husband can find the solution with more income. Keep your head up!
If he’s National Guard, he should check out temporary assignments or go Active Duty and see what type of bonuses they offer.

I remember feeling exactly the same way. I felt like crying with her because I know that pain. I was in the Guard and making about $40K/yr. at my full time job. I wouldn't say I was struggling but I sure wasn't going anywhere either. Fast forward 10 years: I own my own company, just built my dream home, just bought a commercial property, and have $$$,$$$ sitting in the bank. You can do it too. You just have to have a good plan and then execute that plan.
Work part time, stay home with ur kids unless ur able to afford babysitting... it’s like ur working just to have someone watch ur kids
Totally. Some people are saying it's dumb of her to leave the 30 bucks per day job, but to me, 30 bucks a day is NOT worth the trade off of putting your kids with someone else all day. Unless you're on the verge of being homeless or something.
To be honest it falls on her she needs to get a good paying part time job I would recommend Amazon she can bring at least 1k a month and still take care of the kids .
If he's a guardsmen he's a in shape adult male with a military background. Should go to a community college for two years and get a associates in criminal justice. Then become a cop.

I didn't hear Dave mention it nor it said in the comments. The husband has been supporting her and the family since he was 18. What does she do? Does she work? Is she bringing in any money?
She works at the library, but most of her money is going to childcare.

No she did shortly and quit because 40 dollars a day after Childcare wasn’t enough for her ! She obviously doesn’t need money that bad . Sad she’d rather watch her family suffer
I laughed when she said he was a butcher, becauss thatswhat i am. All laughing aside, you can still make good money as a butcher. If he is working for a mom and pop and is getting around where im making right now (30 plus a year) but without raises or advancement, he should look into working for a new company with a union with better wages. And if hes good and has some good resume and some years under his belt as well as good references, he may be able to get hired as a journeyman somewhere
Or he could make plans to open his own business as a butcher. Surely his skills would allow him to do so. His wife could run the business. It sounds like she has a level head for that sort of work.
I really feel for this lady’s plight. Life becomes really unfair when hard work and long hours are not always commensurate with good pay. Something not right there. I hope this family can work through their financial woes and achieve a more stable position as they wholeheartedly deserve it 🙏🙏

All month long and get paid active duty pay
It's like being an active-duty Soldier without being in the big army

Karen Hardie I think women who do stay home can bring in money as well. I stay home and I make the same my husband does working outside the home. It’s doable.
I'm a SAHM and I clean houses on my husbands day off. I bring in almost 1000$ a month. Honestly, money problems when you're not an over spender are just a lack of creativity.

When you buy something you never ask yourself "How hard did somebody work to make this?". The question is always "Is this worth the price they are asking?". In other words, hard work doesn't equal money. Value is what gets you money. I can go outside and spend a whole day hammering hundreds of nails into a piece of wood, but at the end of that hard work there's no value there. It's just a piece of wood with nails in it. If I spent that same amount of time nailing a roof someone is willing to pay for that. These are extreme examples, but the point is that it's not how hard you work. It's what you end up creating with that hard work that's important.
You can work as hard as you want but at some point you also got to start working smarter learned that from my parents.
They or she need a new trade. Study something at night for a year or 2. Tech or medical is a great in demand field. Sales with a base pay plus commission is also a good option.

@@Melody_On_Pawz1 no, not any job...believe me. I have taken "any" job before and when it is not paying enough it strains your pockets and your household worse if you just took extra time to think out a specific plan and job field. When I did that it made a HUGE difference.

She needs to help out, too. She needs to work night shifts or something. They both need to find a way to make more money. If she really wants to help out, she needs to work. The only way to stretch their income is for her to bring some income in.
The guy is already working a lot. He’s in the service and works part-time for this lady’s father. What’s the lady doing? I know she worked at library but that’s a day job. It would come out expensive.
I’m a dental assistant and my wife is a medical assistant. We make around 70-80k a year. We have a one-year-old child. She works evenings/nights. She enters at 1PM and I get off at 5PM. Baby is at baby sitters for 3-4 hours. We pay maybe about 200 a month just for dropping her off for a few hours.
It’s tough, but they both need to make an effort. No crying or complaining about it. Do something about it! It’s your future, your income, and it’s your financial success!
I get so tired of people saying, "She needs to work." First of all, she's trying to. But the reality is that with children a woman has to earn quite a bit to be worth it. And just exactly what do you think taking care of a child (children) and a home is, a party? It's work. And if she's feeding them on $25 a week, that's work too. Those of us that adhere to the Bible believe the income responsibility falls mainly on the husband.

Or provide to the household and make a killing together. My wife and I work hard, and we will always provide for our little family.

Actually, since the library suggests she doesn't have the ability to earn much, she can probably get serious about saving and save more than she can earn. Meals from scratch, make her cleaners, etc.
@@armandoambriz53 I don't live like a pilgrim, and my investing in my children's lives by giving them twenty years has paid off for them. And now I'm earning a decent living in my 50s. The have to have two incomes is a farce. Childcare is so expensive that a woman has to earn at least 50-60 thousand a year to get ahead. Unless of course you work opposite shifts to avoid the childcare. But that can destroy a marriage. Who are you to suggest I'm making necklaces if I stay home? I went on field trips, volunteered at both church and school, and basically sacrificed to give my kids what they call a perfect childhood. If you want to worship money go for it, but don't you dare get an attitude with me because I choose to put some things above money. And, by the way, my ex earned enough that we still lived better than most.

I understand her stress as when I was raising my daughter my self with no help. 25. A week left over for groceries. I worked every weekend for overtime and mowed lawns on the side for years. Very hard but I did it with no assistance.
Living on one income is hard, I'm a sahm but I make things to sell and have a strict budget. Our food budget is only 300 for 5 a month. We are slowly paying off but all we have left is our cars. Me and my husband are both in school, a degree for him means more money at his job and I should be done with my degree by the time our youngest is in school than I will be off to work as well. We have goals and a plan and so far it's going in the right direction.
This breaks my heart. I'm crying along with her, because I was there 3 years ago. I made $12 an hour, and was barely functioning. I met the most amazing person and learned so much from her. You HAVE to have a side hustle. I currently make about $2800 extra per month selling items online. You have to be willing to put in the work. We live in one of the most amazing countries but are plagued with the struggle. It shouldn't have to be that way. Sending positive energy to her. I hope her and her husband are able to find a way out from this.

I was a young bride myself and understand what it's like to struggle early on! This won't last forever!
My husband and I are now in our early 30s with 4 kids and he makes 6 figures as a Formen in the Trades.
Your husband has to either go active duty or look at something else.
My husband did 18 months of full time trade school (worked at UPS at night) and then 1 year internship. There are jobs that pay very well that don't require 4-8 years of school or college debt!!
I have a friend whose husband is a Pipefitter and makes big bucks owning his own company.
With that said, You do not owe your family cheap labor. Mixing money with family very rarely works out and can lead to major resentment/someone being taken advantage of.
Lastly don't disregard 30/40 bucks a day! When we were young and broke, I worked part time and this little extra put food on the table and provided my kids with diapers!! 25 bucks a week for food is poverty. You probably aren't eating well either.

I have friends, she works from 5-10 am online teaching Chinese kids English. Dad takes kids to school, she picks them up. He works online from 1-10 pm, it saves them lots of money for daycare.
You can thank the FED and the IMF for inflation and lowering your standard of living. A butcher used to be a decent job, not anymore.

Well it mean she need to find another I’m tired of people making excuses . Her husband need to go find a construction trade or a better paying job, most first year apprentice earn 30+ with ot! People need go out there and get it. It a sad situation but people need to learn how to it out the “mud”.

I spent 10 years in the military and my wife did all she could to make my time in the service difficult by overspending, especially while I was deployed or out in the field for extended periods of time. This guy has a good wife that actually cares.
I like how Dave Ramsey gets you thinking not just about Finances & Saving Money; but continuing to have goals towards being a high Achiever; without getting A good education & living within your means; you can't hope to increase your income unless you start a Business or get educated; & continue to create personal goals towards success!!!
