I love how the Warden was the most bounciest character of the show. Even with some cartoons today, like Steven Universe character Spinel who was based off of rubber hose animation was quite stiff compared to Warden who was more energetic, bouncy and flexible in movement. His voice was also quite soothing for a very talkative character with the charisma that can sell the devil a crappy condo and walk off scot-free.
While Alice’s design is obviously tounge and cheek, I think the writers did a decent job at giving her character life and not just a one off joke, there’s even an episode about Alice’s past where a boyfriend doesn’t want her anymore because he’s only attracted to men. Bringing to light some of the tribulations trans people can go through.

its obvious how much fun the animators had when working on this show, it makes total sense how much heart and passion they put into it. if i were an animator this would easily be my favorite gig too lol

Something about Augenblick's slightly more rough animation and all the episodes being written by a group gave it a unique charm, like something you'd make with your friends in high school. Too bad it got cut short, but at least it went out on a high note.
My husband is a huge fan and has the DVD's. He has fond memoies watching it with his older brother who had been in prison. He also found it cathartic when he was a CO for a prison. Prison blows and anything that makes it easier to put it behind you in an irreverent bloody mess is a godsend.
Superjail still disturbs and fascinates me. i still get chills watching the theme song especially when the warden's face appears in the clouds. It's content is gross and not my cup of tea at all but it's style and animation is unmatched.
To be honest adult swim that come out in the 2000's like superjail are really timeless classic that are really recommended to be watch about people who remembers them and I would like to rewatch shows like superjail.
it definitely felt like there was a disconnect between how the writers and artists treated Alice. but the episode where she tries to act more feminine was really well done. because in the end she chose to be herself and embrace the masculine sides of herself she still connects with. that you don’t have to be the most feminine woman or the most masculine man if your trans or cis or anyone. i also like that it’s unclear if the warden doesn’t know she’s trans or just doesn’t care. and his crushes on other women in the series proves he’s not just a fetishizing trans women. it’s all pretty impressive for 2008, imo.
With Ballmasters and King Star King getting specials maybe Superjail will eventually get one and resolve that kind of limp ending feeling from season 4.

I honestly love this show. It’s insane yet calm. The chaos is consistent so you aren’t bored and waiting for the insanity. And this show had some of the most creative kills I’ve seen since the toxic avenger
What really fun is every episode jackknife finds a way to escape superjail during the riot, My favorite was him turning himself into a baby and a random ass woman walks past the screen, goes 'awww', and just picks him up while all the prisoners are killing each other 🤣

It's literally a notebook sketchbook of chaos turned into animation!!! Its hard to top this off unless your Painted Stills of Ren& Stimpy,Studio Trigger, Madhouse, Masami Obari or a Go Nagi project!
I can't overstate just how obsessed I was with Superjail! back in the day. I still remember the first time I ever saw it, though it'd be hard to forget... I was in the hospital after getting sick, i.e. wasted, at a Halloween party the night before, and there wasn't much else to watch, so even though I didn't really care for many adult swim shows at the time I decided to give Superjail! a shot. It ended up being one of those surprise shows that I didn't know I wanted but suddenly couldn't imagine living without. I'd never seen ANYTHING like it, and I couldn't get enough; the energy and pure, insane chaos was infectious, and I was hooked immediately. The Warden was absolutely the best part, the way he would emote and just bend reality--almost subconsciously--as he was monologuing was always fun to watch, and of course I ended up with the biggest crush on him. Even sewed a purple suit to cosplay him at ComicCon *and* made myself a little Warden plushie. The show still holds a special place for me all these years later, and although the later seasons didn't quite have the same magic as the first (though not bad by any means), Superjail! is still holds the title as my favorite AS show of all time.
Loved the video, I watched Robotomy back in 2011 but Superjail was something new to me. I love the fight animation and I remember the villain Hornet. These adult swim shows were something special

This show was rick and morty before rick and morty. The warden is rick and his little assistant dude was morty. This show was just really years ahead of its time. People didn't get or understand the humor at the time.
