I often have your videos on in the background while I'm cooking dinner or doing the dishes. It helps me practice "decoding" call signs, signal reports, locations, etc. I'm always impressed with the readability of your sending, as well as your courtesy in adapting to the speed of those who reply to you. Good stuff. 72.
Nice video, as usual. The KHRA1 is a fantastic idea. I see two improvements that the clever folks at Elecraft might consider. First is that the adaptor might be constructed as to allow the radio to be tilted up and an angle for beter viewing while operating (of course one could alyays put it on something to angle it up), and secondly, more importantly, you mentioned that the adaptor that screws into the radio causes the rest of the KHRA1 to come apart. I can forsee someone, well me, dropping small parts into the dirt of worse yet the grass or weeds. I don't know if you've ever dropped small parts into the grass but they are almost impossible to find again. Thank you for providing these really useful videos to the amature radio community.
This is great! I ordered the KH1 in January but I'll need to get this adapter also! Thank you for showing a video about it. :)
The KHRA1 makes this the perfect radio for me. I ordered my KH1 mid December and it looks like they are about a month behind my order. Hoping that Elecraft is able to catch up soon.
I ordered mine on 20 October '23 and received it in early February. They took so many orders on release that they couldn't keep up with production. It was worth the wait, although I find it takes some getting used to.
It did its first SOTA activation on Sunday. The band conditions were only fair, but I was able to work Christian in France (he always calls) and a station in Belgium from Missouri. I gave one of my earbuds to my son, who was with me, so he could listen to the code even if he doesn't know Morse (yet). There seems to be a fair bit of directionality associated with the direction of counterpoise deployment. I'm going to build a new counterpoise with two wires into one ring terminal and deploy them at a 90-degree angle. We will see if that reduces the directionality of the signals.

Not often one hears a signal report of 119 but a good contact nonetheless :)
I noticed that too! ;) On one of my last POTA activations I gave a signal report of 219. It took several repeats to make the exchange with that operator. :)
I look down at your log and see many of my regular hunters. Like the Beach Boys say, they "get around". 73! dit dit
Ha! SO true!!!
OMG that side tone is soooo much better, before it was like nails on a chalkboard. hihi
I enjoy your videos. Plan on testing on may 4 to get tech and hopefully my general. So I can do POTA and sota in Michigan have a wide verity of places to go. Thank you for your encouragement and time you put in your videos and QRPER.
Wonderful! You've got this and I hope that when you dive into POTA, you consider submitting a field report to QRPer.com!
Nope! didn't catch you on this one either Tom. I was guarding the car whilst out Grocery shopping!. so missed you again. So !! will keep on hunting till we catch you agn!. thanks for the video es 73 de Ellis WA1RKS.

ou SO much and thank you for the support on Patreon!
It definitely sounds better but not as good as my KX2. But I have only heard one on this media so I hope I do at the Huntsville Hamfest.
oooh… sidetone does sound much better.
Way smoother!
I passed along your greeting to Sophie too :-))
Give her a nice belly rub from me, too!
My code speed has improved watching your video's. 73's
I'm so happy to hear that!
Tnx fr Q 26:36 🙂
Thank you!
Thanks for the video. I think (based on the video) that you are right-handed? I was intrigued that you have chosen to mount the log tray on the left of the KH1. I would have thought that the right-hand side would be a more natural position for a right-handed user? Is there an advantage to having it on the left? 73 de Dav M0WDV
The headphone jack is awkwardly placed under the tray on the right. The tray also rests nicely on the left hand palm. I would have never thought to do it but in another video Thomas did it and thought I should try on my KH1!!
Yes, it was more of an experiment. The headphone jack is a bit in the way when the log is on the right. I do think, howver, it's easier for me to write legibly on the right rather than on the left.
Hi Thomas, Elecraft are supplying a new updated paddle key for the KH1.
Have you seen the Kanga Rooser qrp tranciever. It's a single frequency 2 watt radio. It is a kit radio. Would be interesting to see one working.
David M0DUU
Yes indeed! I'm super tempted to but the Kanga Rooster!
Добрый день подскажите где заказать Elecraft KH1 в другую страну.
👍👍
I need subtitles for this
Finally. I NEED that firmware update. My ears bleed from that unfiltered side tone.
why 72? ??

@@ThomasK4SWL thanks
I shall start using 74 amongst the crowd willing to be heard.
@@paulmitchell4421 You, sir, have my full support!
@@ThomasK4SWL much obliged. it is a neat setup for portable but life's too short...
maybe if i didn't try to work the baltics from the west coast with no beams...
@@paulmitchell4421 I love this stuff. Last year, I worked Java Island from North Carolina with 5 watts CW and a 4' whip (the AX1). Even got that on video! I never get tired of QRP. :)
Thanks for another great demo. De N4KGY
TNX Thomas Good video as always 73 de G6JMX
Thank you so much, OM!
