Agree Josh. Best to just download and read the manual at this stage.
When I received my KH1, SN 000209, I assembled it with the accessories. When I installed my key allen wrench, I put it in backwards. The short leg made contact with the case and shorted the unit so it would not turn on. The allen wrench is supposed to be inserted into a small hole in the black plastic that I didn't see on my unit. Elecraft customer support figured it out immediately.
Finally someone showing it can be modified to left handed.
thank you for the info and time to teach us noobs the way of the ham. again thank you
I wasn't initially interested in the KH1. I then saw Thomas' video of him opening his up about 10 days after launch and decided to order mine. Now I wait 6-8ish weeks. But I'm very excited to get it. --... ..--- -.. . .- -.- ....- - ..-.
What does "72 from AK4TF" mean?
72 means end transmission/ or basically "i'm done talking on the radio..iiiiiiiiii'm outta here, later" and the alpha numeric is that person's call sign that you'd get assigned to you once you are licensed.@@BrightBlueJim
I just need my freaking radio to ship! 4 to 6 weeks can't come fast enough.
Shipped today!
Waiting for the KH-2 -with SSB. My CW is not good enough for a pile-up, so I'm using only SSB as a SOTA activator with my KX3 or my IC-705...
A future enhancement would be the addition of an adjustable peak noise limiter.
Very interesting concept. Wonder if you could do some snooping around the PCB, as you did with the pen :) There is 0 technical details about this radio operation and design yet. Elecraft used to be very open about those, sharing block diagrams and such for their previous models.
We do know it’s super het
@@HamRadioCrashCourse Ha yes, I digged that up in the meantime in the comparison chart: "4 crystal superhet". Not super impressed by that, QMX seems a few generations ahead technically. But still love the idea and the KH1 form factor.
Idk what “generations” means here. It’s just a simple man pack ultra portable.
Interesting thing about that notepad. I am also a lefty that learnt to key with the right hand so I can have a pen in the left hand so I dont have to keep switching hands. KH1 one has ruined that now! :)
I need to become an influencer just to get products earlier. Ordered mine the day they were announced and still weeks away from delivery
His name was Scott and he gave you a 539. In Colorado. Your welcome de n5vwn Hey congrats! You made you first “Q”!
On that radio maybe. But I have made other came
Contacts. Thanks for the help!
Can you crossmode SSB/CW? i.e. you hear an SSB station calling CQ, you need to call them CW, and continue listening SSB to complete the QSO. Is this possible? I know a few activators who would know what to do do here. But in US this is not possible. In VK very easy because we are not locked into mode and frequency.
Yes.
Crossmode is an advertised capability; but according to the KH1 owner's manual errata sheet, its not yet implemented.
Yes that's how it was designed.
@@SP-nt4sr I understand that but in the US, you are not allowed to Tx CW on the phone portion - so how will it work there?
@@MrAlanmcd Not true. In the US, CW is allowed on all allocated amateur frequencies.
Does anyone else get inspector gadget vibes off the KH1? Really really expensive for a little CW rig tho. Don't think I can justify it 😭
Just wow. You can see & feel the craftsmanship that went into this even through video. The premium looking case and the wrap around notebook. What a treat. The elite $80 PCB paddle. The 50% glass fiber reinforced ABS might be the same as you get in chinese radios, but you know this one is the real american made deal. Definitely worth the hard earned 4 figure pricetag for the lot... yeah, no. I mean, I gotta give it to elecraft, they could sell a copper lined brick for 100 bucks. I really admire their business practices and how they will sell you everything but the screws holding the thing together as an add on. It takes skill to operate at that level as a business and still have products that sell out. Realistically, the capabilities of this rig fall far far short of it's pricetag. And let's not get started on the add on ordeal, I again have to compliment elecraft, they're pretty much the only ones that can sell a paper logbook, a QRP ATU and a pen for 500 bucks to frugal ham radio crowd. But many will want it, will buy it, so as the saying goes: As long as there's sheep; wool will be aplenty.
Double-sided log sheets are an 500.00 option
If I had a nickel for every time I read a comment from folks that think it's too expensive I would be able to buy a hundred million KH1s. Guarantee you're none of the folks commenting on how expensive this radio is have ever owned an elecraft product before. It's worth every single penny.
I agree.
Exactly. Nor is it ever mentioned that I can sell many of my seemingly ancient Elecraft radios for the same, or even more than I originally bought them for.
Was really interested in a deep dive into tech specs and ops with KH1....sorta a video version of the manual. The manual is ok, but lacks many specific details of operation, unlike my KX2. But dude, I can't believe how unfocused and self-indulgent this video was....Taking abt 5 minutes to try and listen to WWV on 15 Mhz...and really not knowing some of the specs of this unit. Don't like to dis anyone on TH-cam, but let's just say I won't be subscribing to your channel.
The radio was new to me as well. Thanks for trying. 🤷🏼♀️ my videos are seldom like this of you want to look at something else.
@@HamRadioCrashCourse OK - it's a very complicated radio compared to my KX2 & TR-45L....the manual is detailed but doesn't cover everything. Guess I was looking for a detailed video version so don't have to read the entire manual 🙂
