When you're at the end of your grocery budget, and don't have much left, it might be overwhelming to try to make a lot of meals out of a few inexpensive ingredients. I know, I've been there! At the end of one of my recent videos, I shared that this is actually why I started my cooking channel. Here are 5 of my FAVORITE cheaper meals ideas that cost around $5. So that when you're overwhelmed, wondering what in the world your family is going to eat, you can make delicious, nutritious meals for cheap! Thanks for your channel and suggestions. I'm disabled and it's just my son and I. It's hard coming up with ideas for dinner. Prices at your stores are way cheaper than here. Lucky to see a block of cheese like that for under $6.00
I remember reading a book about cutting your grocery bill in half. They said start with your pantry, freezer, and frig to plan your meals. Once you've planned as many meals as you can, then see if you can plan more meals if you have a little produce, spices, or other ingredients. Because I'm cooking for one, I know I can stretch meals a lot more. And with these recipes from Julia, I can do a lot more.
Smart! I'm cooking for one as well and I like how Julia's meals can be portioned and frozen.
If you can download the websites where you shop like Walmart or local grocery, you can put in the search engine what you may be looking for. If you put the general term, say green beans, what they have will pop up- national brands and their cost as well as store brands. It saves me plenty time.
Planning meals based on what you have on hand is a great way to use up what you already have and save money by not buying things you don’t need.

Love $5 meals. I'm a widow and I get 5-6 meals from them. I eat one and freeze the rest. Gives me variety and I can eat well and stay in budget. Blessings💕🇺🇸

I do not know how young people afford families. Everything is so expensive, thank you Julia for helping people make good meals for their families.
People will always find a way to provide and adapt. Definitely nowadays you have to make lots of sacrifices. Frugal, simple and back to traditional roots lifestyle is the way to go, at least that’s what I’m learning. I can’t raise my children as frivolously as my parents raised me

You should do a cookbook about $5.00 meals and all of your budget meals and maybe do more shelf stable meals. Especially for those that are sleeping on the street and for our heroic veterans ❤

Lovely recipes! Has anyone else bought a whole roasted chicken every 2 or 3 weeks and taken everything off the bone, frozen up packets. The bones make great stock for soup too! For $5 i can get 8 or more meals for 1 or 2 people.

My family has been making the sausage, Mac & cheese, and broccoli mix for decades. It’s a family “delicacy” that I share with everyone that my brother named “scongie” (don’t ask, we don’t know). Scongie in my family can take on any form depending on what you have on hand - the other night I made it with ground beef and peas. A quick meal that always hits the spot. Definitely try this one!!

Also, for the mac n cheese in the first recipe, if you don’t have milk and butter, you can just use a little water. I’ve done that many times.

Leftover cream cheese or sour cream works too and makes it even more rich and creamy
I have never had enchiladas with rice and beans or with flour tortillas. We would think of these as burritos. I like the idea of the zucchini pasta, especially this time of year when many people are getting zucchini from the garden.

Those Enchiladas would be even more yummier topping them with the Great Value Cheese Dip Sauces.
Walmart has 3 or 4 different options. I especially love the White Cheese Pepper Jack Dip/Sauce. You can find them in the Chip Section. Green Salsa Verde Enchilada Sauce is another great option.

@@JuliaPacheco I’m originally from Southern California ( on the border ) and, really miss the Mexican Food there. Oh yeah, that spicy cheese sauce and or, the Green Salsa Verde Sauce is so much better than that red sauce. You can even add the Salsa Verde Sauce in a pot with Chicken, Pork or Beef to make a stew or a filling for tortillas. Thank you and love your channel !

Love these recipes Julia so affordable and easy. I live in Arkansas and I have 2 young men from Morman church visit me they are both from Utah. I suggested they watch your videos they live on a budget that is not much. So when they stop by I remind them to watch you. ❤
Good idea. Not only are they on a budget, but usually they don't have the best cooking skills. I don't know if they can watch the videos while on their mission (they're pretty restricted as to what media they can watch), but maybe you could write down a couple of recipes for them?

These are really great and so easy! I'm going to have to get one of those strainers. I'm slowly switching all of my cooking utensils to silicone from my hard plastic. They are so much better and so much easier to clean. And I love that the heat doesn't melt it from the pots if you leave it in the pot! I'm so bad for doing that or laying it across the top. I have plenty of wood spoons, and stainless, I just never use them much afraid I'll hurt my nonstick cookware. Have a blessed week Julia! 💕
