He's had past injuries, like his neck, and a bad back, which doesn't help matters any as far as drumming goes. It’s pretty obvious that Alex is pissed over Sammy’s book and what he said about the brothers, I like both VH versions as it was Eddie’s guitar that was the spark that ignited the band. I do however think Alex should have included the Sammy years as it’s part of the band’s history, it would compete the story. Hopefully they can all make peace before they aren’t here anymore. Time waits for nobody.
I don't think it's about Sammy's book...Valerie's book, Monk's book, etc all said just as bad if not worse. Alex was going to set the record straight in his book and basically threw Eddie under the bus too. I think Alex is all about the money, not the music, the money. Alex is pissed the Hagar made Cabo a success, that Sam sold his tequila biz for a billion dollars. Monk wrote about Alex refusing an endorsement deal and ruining the deal. Alex sticks it to Noel because he says Noel ruined that deal after Alex eventually wanted the deal after they lost it. Alex doesn't like Hagar because Sammy is an equal partner when it comes to Van Hagar music...they are reissuing that era and Sam gets his fair share. Alex is FAMOUS for holding a grudge. This is all so surreal. 1984 was the first cassette I ever purchased with my own money. I was 13 years old. I can remember not having cable because I lived out in the sticks, but a few of my friends in town did. And we would watch the Jump video, and the Panama video when they would come on. I was a Van Halen nut and those brothers were the coolest things in the world. Even back then I thought Diamond Dave was a little over the top, but if you asked me in my teenage years what the definition of cool was, it was Eddie and Alex. And now, I'm 54 years old and I've lived several years in a world without Eddie Van Halen. Can I look at Alex and I see an old man, which is fair enough, because he is. But there's still a part of my heart and mind that sees those two long-haired rockers throwing around on stage like they are forever 20 something years old.

When Ed Leffler passed away, that was the beginning of the end for Van Halen. He knew how to keep the peace and when he passed there was nobody to deal with the Sam/Eddie/Alex egos,.
Got all 6 Van Halen albums with David Lee Roth. None of the others. I still liked Ed’s playing on the other albums but like Alex said the essence of Van Halen was gone after Dave left. My ears can’t take Sammy’s voice for very long.
Sammy needs to listen to a few of Alex's interviews. Alex felt that the early days with DLR were the best because they were struggling, trying to be a band. With Sammy there was success already and they did create great music together, but apparently Alex liked the struggle. Sammy was fortunate enough to be in the orbit of the original beast that was Van Halen. Alex would have been amazing on other people's records but Ed the jealous, insecure, bi-polar ass he was, never let that happen. Dave does a great EP because "Why not?", send little Ed into a tizzy! Ed did do a solo album, it was VHIII and it tanked, and he did it without Alex.

Neil Peart did not have arthritis. That was Alex Lifeson. Neil had chronic tendinitis the started in the mid 90's or so. I think for Neil, it was more just wanting to go out on the top of his game. See the song Losing It.

Instead of just riding on the tour bus, he had to ride his motorcycle cross country in between shows, because he had claustrophobia, and his 360- 30 piece Liberace drum set didn't help either. If had a small set up ,a snare and a few toms and cymbals, it would have been easier on his tendons and ligaments.

Sorry it accidentally closed on me, from Montrose then started his solo career and has worked with other people as well up until he joined Van Halen. I could type about this subject for hours but Sammy just needs to give Alex time to work through whatever issues he's dealing the at his own pace and just respect the fact that the group as the fans knew is over and should anything develops from any of those recordings he left behind I'm sure when he's ready to be will but everyone deals with loss differently.

After surviving 2 bone breaking crashes in '93 & '98 it's not easy to recover. Staying playing requires constant upkeep and no loss of momentum, which VH lost.
One thing I can agree with Sammy about: Tauruses are indeed stubborn. I'm married to one, so I should know! But I'm a Scorpio and we're just as stubborn, if not even more so. It all balances out.

Looking back at all the drama in VH - it was always SOMEBODY ELSE’S FAULT, never Alex or Ed. Also not a big fan of how the brother’s handled their business with the other members of Van Halen. Regarding their legacy though - much respect.
If I wasn't able to play drums anymore, I would blame the singer. Or if i couldn't sing (DLR) I wouldn't want to be onstage with Sammy either. Its not Sammy. He was honest about Eddies drug and alcohol abuse for decades. It isn't a secret, despite Alex's objections. I saw Eddie lose it in Dallas, on the 04 tour. Was ugly. A number of factors have been reported as to the rift between Sam and Alex. The whole Cabo Wabo business deal fallout. The Twister sessions were rough, even resulting in Alex trying to punch Sam. Then the book which Al thought was an exploitive cheap shot. The reunion tour was also a sore spot apparently, because they were trying like hell to keep Ed sober, at least enough to play. Sam was really pushing his tequila, and related merch during the tour, and supposedly Al, management, and even some of the techs were pretty pissed at Sammy's tonedeafness over it, from both the hypocrisy of pushing booze while Ed was in the state he was, as well as the relation to the business itself, as the band was previously invested in it (the cantina from which the tequila brand flourished) until the management embezzlement issues. I like Sammy, but I think he just needs to let sleeping dogs lie. I don't think he set out to do any harm, but he just doesn't gel with Al at this stage of the game. Al's done with it at this point, and just living his life as he chooses in his later years. He's too old for the drama, and as every VH fan knows, there's never been a shortage of it.
I'm so glad that Alex said the magic was gone when Dave left. I have always felt that way. There was a synergy that the original lineup had that was lost with Hagar. I saw VH several times in the early days with the original lineup. I remember seeing them on the first tour they did with Hagar and it was completely disappointing. If you don't get it you don't get it.

I think it’s irrelevant. Alex is over 70. Have you listened to his drumming on those albums? It’s very technical, fast and isn’t conducive to a 70 something year old guy to play that wouldn’t embarrass himself. I hope him and Sam make amends at some point. I’m a huge fan of both.

It’s pretty obvious that Alex is pissed over Sammy’s book and what he said about the brothers, I like both VH versions as it was Eddie’s guitar that was the spark that ignited the band. I do however think Alex should have included the Sammy years as it’s part of the band’s history, it would compete the story. Hopefully they can all make peace before they aren’t here anymore. Time waits for nobody.

This is all so surreal. 1984 was the first cassette I ever purchased with my own money. I was 13 years old. I can remember not having cable because I lived out in the sticks, but a few of my friends in town did. And we would watch the Jump video, and the Panama video when they would come on. I was a Van Halen nut and those brothers were the coolest things in the world. Even back then I thought Diamond Dave was a little over the top, but if you asked me in my teenage years what the definition of cool was, it was Eddie and Alex. And now, I'm 54 years old and I've lived several years in a world without Eddie Van Halen. Can I look at Alex and I see an old man, which is fair enough, because he is. But there's still a part of my heart and mind that sees those two long-haired rockers throwing around on stage like they are forever 20 something years old.

That's a professional decision bud, and it may not have been 100% Sammy's doing. Satriani loves playing with Kenny, Joe wasn't excited about Jason being in the band. Sammy has millions invested on this tour, Jason needs to leave, is Sammy going to say no, is Sammy going to stop touring and lose money? He's got guys he has to pay, that have scheduled this time. Satch has a record with Vai about to come out. Kenny is as in demand as it gets.
Bands have to move on sometimes. Maybe Sam took Satch's lead and just stayed with Kenny. Maybe Jason was going to be replaced by Kenny for the Las Vegas run anyway and just decided to just stick with him instead.

Time for Sam to shut up and play his solo stuff, chickenfoot and whatever else he did with Satch and Mike and stop talking and even playing Van Halen songs, even the ones he sang on. Had Sam not joined Van Halen his solo career woulda been over by the early 90s and he would now be playing 30 band rock cruises playing the Standing Hampton songs some Montrose, plain jane and the horrendous 3 lock box. Neil Peart did not have arthritis. That was Alex Lifeson. Neil had chronic tendinitis the started in the mid 90's or so. I think for Neil, it was more just wanting to go out on the top of his game. See the song Losing It.

Instead of just riding on the tour bus, he had to ride his motorcycle cross country in between shows, because he had claustrophobia, and his 360- 30 piece Liberace drum set didn't help either. If had a small set up ,a snare and a few toms and cymbals, it would have been easier on his tendons and ligaments.
Drumming takes its toll on musicians even in their 50s. I think the drummer of Primus just recently quit because of his 'tendonitis'.

Sorry it accidentally closed on me, from Montrose then started his solo career and has worked with other people as well up until he joined Van Halen. I could type about this subject for hours but Sammy just needs to give Alex time to work through whatever issues he's dealing the at his own pace and just respect the fact that the group as the fans knew is over and should anything develops from any of those recordings he left behind I'm sure when he's ready to be will but everyone deals with loss differently.

Looking back at all the drama in VH - it was always SOMEBODY ELSE’S FAULT, never Alex or Ed. Also not a big fan of how the brother’s handled their business with the other members of Van Halen. Regarding their legacy though - much respect.
If I wasn't able to play drums anymore, I would blame the singer. Or if i couldn't sing (DLR) I wouldn't want to be onstage with Sammy either. Its not Sammy. He was honest about Eddies drug and alcohol abuse for decades. It isn't a secret, despite Alex's objections. I saw Eddie lose it in Dallas, on the 04 tour. Was ugly. The way Mike was treated by the brothers, speaks for itself. Eddie is the GOAT, but Sammy is the scapegoat.

No I don't think they needed a drummer, but it would be nice if Alex joined in why not. Well now he's too sick and that sucks. I think Satriani is awesome but if they really wanted to sound like Van Halen I think they should invite Cameron Cooper to come play at least a couple of songs or something while they're doing this tour they're doing because Cameron's awesome go check Cameron Cooper out the boy can play some Van Halen licks. close your eyes you would swear it was Eddie playing there's a few guys out there that can do that though. But out of all of them I think Cameron is the closest.

A number of factors have been reported as to the rift between Sam and Alex.
The whole Cabo Wabo business deal fallout.
The Twister sessions were rough, even resulting in Alex trying to punch Sam.
Then the book which Al thought was an exploitive cheap shot.
The reunion tour was also a sore spot apparently, because they were trying like hell to keep Ed sober, at least enough to play. Sam was really pushing his tequila, and related merch during the tour, and supposedly Al, management, and even some of the techs were pretty pissed at Sammy's tonedeafness over it, from both the hypocrisy of pushing booze
while Ed was in the state he was, as well as the relation to the business itself, as the band was previously invested in it (the cantina from which the tequila brand flourished) until the management embezzlement issues.
I like Sammy, but I think he just needs to let sleeping dogs lie.
I don't think he set out to do any harm, but he just doesn't gel with Al at this stage of the game.
Al's done with it at this point, and just living his life as he chooses in his later years.
He's too old for the drama, and as every VH fan knows, there's never been a shortage of it.
I'm so glad that Alex said the magic was gone when Dave left. I have always felt that way. There was a synergy that the original lineup had that was lost with Hagar. I saw VH several times in the early days with the original lineup. I remember seeing them on the first tour they did with Hagar and it was completely disappointing. If you don't get it you don't get it.
Sammy gave Van Halen their first number one hit single. I got it. What I didn't get into were the drugs that took both Van Halen brothers down.

Valerie's book was just as revealing. As if Valerie and Ed being in marriage therapy with Ed confessing to the tons of affairs and Valerie telling Ed about sleeping with the drummer of Private Life (a band Ed was producing) and telling how Ed lost his little bipolar sh*t over it wasn't a dagger. Funny how Alex didn't set the record straight if Sammy was lying about what he wrote about.
Alex is about money. He made Ed tour even though he was drugged to high heaven in 2004, Alex hated Sammy but asked him back. Dave, Ed, and Alex had no problem screwing over Michael Anthony for...yep...more money. Alex sold all his stuff...money. Ed and Alex hated Sammy because he made Cabo Wabo a big success. Alex knows Sammy made hundreds upin hundreds of millions on his tequila brand. Alex hates Sammy because now that they are re-releasing Van Hagar albums, Sammy will make just as much as Al will because Sammy is not going to sign over his rights to that music...so less money for Al.

I think it’s irrelevant. Alex is over 70. Have you listened to his drumming on those albums? It’s very technical, fast and isn’t conducive to a 70 something year old guy to play that wouldn’t embarrass himself. I hope him and Sam make amends at some point. I’m a huge fan of both.

I think Sam is right about most like maybe that's why Alex said that Sam ,Mike aren't doing VH any justice.They tryed ,,did.But I can see Alex putting it down cus he can't play anymore.
The only thing sad here is that no one is listening to Alex explain his objectives in interviews . He is a smart guy. Book 2 will be very successful ! As long as Sammy keeps bitching !
Alex and Eddie were the problem with Van Halen. It’s not normal to hate your singer because he makes money.z it’s not normal to hate your singer for carrying the flag while you spend over a 20 years not doing anything!
