I was in Oakwood Avenue school just a short walk from Warrington Cemetrery on the day of Georges funeral. At assembly everyone was told not to go but me and two friends went anyway. When we got back late from lunch we were all put on detention for disobeying Miss Jones our headmistress. Think George would have approved and had a little chuckle 🤩

I remember the day when they said George had died from an heart attack, i was 13 yrs old, i am now 65, he used to make me laugh; and on a Friday night around 7.30 we all used to watch the The Friday Show on our old black and white tv for half an hour, couldn't believe it when he passed away, people can imitate him, but there was only one George Formby.
dont be sad he died, be happy he was alive and brought everyone joy and laughter. rest in peace george..... we will never forget you. its turned out nice again for one last time.

It turns out, it was because his mother, Eliza Booth (nee Hoy), lived at 4 Alexandra Drive, Aigburth, Liverpool, L17. I've walked past that house many a time, and I never knew!
