3:10 hi. gamedev graphics guy here. you can achieve similar results in realtime rendering. more old approach will be some sort of SSGI, can be improved with radiance cascades, voxels and other variants. And of course today you can implement Ray/Path tracing. Sure, extremely small and dynamic details could get lost, but in general it will look very much 1 to 1
Although I will admit that the possibility of a radiance cascade scenario is extremely unlikely, I remain uncomfortable with the... Gordon doesn't need to hear all this. He's a highly trained professional!
@ SSGI work on per-pixel basis, doesn't matter what emits light, basically then we render object, we store emissive values in G-Buffer. I'm not so familiar with RT/PT, but I believe, if that liquid can be rendered with RT shaders, emissive property is pretty trivial addition. I'd say liquid itself is far more complex than light emission

Warhammer has been on a run this past year. I hope they keep it growing, secret level was great. Imagine an origins series of the Ultramarines in the same style.
What a great decision to have an ad come right after Sam praising something for not breaking the mood and illustrate the frustration he is talking about!!
I wouldn't be surprised if like 70% of the budget for Red One was because of the cast. Not just the Rock but Chris Evans and JK Simmons also. Just goes to show that Star Power alone can't save a mid to bad movie... unless it releases in China.
I'd be disappointed if someone couldn't figure that out. I'd figure the delivery itself would make it clear, even if you're that bad at math ;) However, I think almost everyone will. Just don't tell the guy above me.

I absolutely loved each episode of Secret Level, and the WH40K episode was phenomenal, the series has become one of my top faves, I would be interested to see you guys react to other episodes.
I like the approach for the Twilight of the Warriors reaction: "You flag our video for music copyright? We'll edit it and make it sound ridiculous" (assuming that's what happened here)
Thank you SO much for covering Twilight of the Warriors! It's one of my fave filmes of last year, and the modern Hong Kong film industry needs as much exposure as possible! They are still making fantastic and innovative movies (See Stuntman - 2024, a great option for Stuntmen React), but are largely self funding these projects (the veteran actors themselves are paying for the movies in some cases). As a Hong Kong resident, my heart is filled with pride to see this industry get some exposure. Thanks for this and please keep looking into the modern HK classics!
Always blows me away how these films with massive budgets end up being these duds. Where does the money go?!? Just goes to show more money doesn’t always equal better results.

If they are going to take the time and respect the audience enough to make an ad for us I find it's worth my time to watch it to help their metrics and ad revenue.
I remember seeing a reddit post that claimed one third of the total Red One budget (which ended many millions over the planned budget) was due to the Rock missing entire days on set - often times arriving 8hours late for shooting.

“Brawl in Cell Block 99” has some really brutal and funny fight scenes that yall should look at if u haven’t yet
I don't think this is something you guys have looked at, at least not that I can remember, but Hardcore Henry is an awesome first person film with a ton of really fun fights and cgi and awesome camera work. I'd love to see you guys check it out sometime!
They have looked at it. Specifically a bus scene.
@Yowl I must've missed that one, thank you!
Dude that first 5 minutes of Warhammer was actually insane. Never even heard of it and I’m so glad it was mentioned on here. It was so sick
“It’s time to look a War Hammer: Secret Level”
No, it’s time to make a full episode on Secret Level: Every Episode.
The show demands your full attention.
A perfect 'bottle' experience, it can even cover the full gamut of "great and bad CGI" too with some of the episodes in there...
@@Coconut-219 do you have an Example for "bad CGI" in that show? bc i know a few things that i didnt like but those where just Artistic Choices and not "Bad CGI"
Whoever did the edit with the cat after the eye details deserves a raise. It's not often I 'm forced to laugh out loud while watching youtube.
That warhammer episode was the best one of the series by a long shot.
I just want Sam to know that he is the funniest person on this whole entire channel and he makes me click on every single video. If he’s not in it there’s a 4% chance I’m not clicking on it.
3:10 hi. gamedev graphics guy here. you can achieve similar results in realtime rendering. more old approach will be some sort of SSGI, can be improved with radiance cascades, voxels and other variants.
Says something can't be rendered in a videogame engine, while talking about an entire short film made with a videogame engine.
Which game engine supports liquids emitting light? Most of the time, the artists are placing point or area lights.
@ the entire matrix demo night time scene is lit with masked emissive materials. Been a feature since 5.
10:16 I really love how Wren always looks like a kid watching the movie that is going to change his life and become the secret center of his being as an adult for the very first time.
To be fair, most of the budget for Red One probably went to The Dwayne being 6-8 hours late every day.
Guys: I don't have any knowledge of CGI but I watched that WH40K episode of Secret Level last night and thought the exact same thing as you. Amazing work.
I am a bit surprised that you talked about the bus-drop thing here. And did not compare it with a very similar stunt in the first Police Story movie.
Yes, I thought exactly the same!
It was certainly the film's makers 'hat-tilt' to said PS scene
Don't forget the rest of the Secret Level series, and the number of teams and studios involved. Many many teams.
Warhammer has been on a run this past year. I hope they keep it growing, secret level was great. Imagine an origins series of the Ultramarines in the same style.
40 film adaptation of the Horus Heresy when
(please never)
@@SimonClark1 film per book in the series. It would take until the actual year 30,000 to complete
What a great decision to have an ad come right after Sam praising something for not breaking the mood and illustrate the frustration he is talking about!!
@2:18, praise the editor
i was litteraly looking for the about it lol
I wouldn't be surprised if like 70% of the budget for Red One was because of the cast. Not just the Rock but Chris Evans and JK Simmons also. Just goes to show that Star Power alone can't save a mid to bad movie... unless it releases in China.
0:23 Over two dozen thousand is >24000, so the joke is not wrong from a logical perspective.
The nerd we need
I'd be disappointed if someone couldn't figure that out. I'd figure the delivery itself would make it clear, even if you're that bad at math ;)
However, I think almost everyone will. Just don't tell the guy above me.
More Secret Level reactions please! It's a MUST for this cannel! So much cool stuff.
Woooo new episode!
You know you did a good job when the dudes critiquing your film forget what they were about to say and just enjoy it. Its so good to finally see 40K animation live up to the hype.
"I'm so sick of those movies that break the mood"
Followed by an Ad break
That's got to be intentional
I saw all of these (except OKGO because I thought they stopped making albums) and it's all very entertaining. Great breakdown fellas!
there are so many wars of the hammers
Twilight of the Warriors had Kenji Tanigaki as stunt coordinator! The guy who was action director for the Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X movies. He also worked on a bunch of movies with Donnie Yen like SPL, Flash Point, and even Shinjuku Incident with Jackie Chan.
7:08 “This does not look like 250 million dollars worth of CGI.” I heard that a significant chunk of that money was to pay the Rock’s salary. I’ve seen sources that said it was between 25 and 50 million dollar just for him.
I absolutely loved each episode of Secret Level, and the WH40K episode was phenomenal, the series has become one of my top faves, I would be interested to see you guys react to other episodes.
I like the approach for the Twilight of the Warriors reaction: "You flag our video for music copyright? We'll edit it and make it sound ridiculous" (assuming that's what happened here)
thought it was some new TH-cam DMCA Ai filter 😂, instead of muting it just pitches the audio of those segments 😂
Starting to think there's some money laundering involved
4:54 the absolute best sponsor transition. Keep the dad jokes coming 😂
Twilight of the warrior gives strong Kung Fu hustle vibes, which I don't think has been done yet ?
The first five minutes dedicated to explaining how art can be freaking art and not a corporate dumpster fire for those who forgot. Its so hard to find art being aloud to breeth without being suffocated by greed and soulless boardrooms. Happy the man Who made Astartes got a chance to work with a team... and Bravo to that team 👏
Most youtube channels I skip the ads but I always watch the ad's for this channel because they don't just recycle the same ads and take the time to record a custom ad each episode. If they are going to take the time and respect the audience enough to make an ad for us I find it's worth my time to watch it to help their metrics and ad revenue.
2:17 I'm sorry, but that cat insert was S-tier comedy xD!!!
I remember seeing a reddit post that claimed one third of the total Red One budget (which ended many millions over the planned budget) was due to the Rock missing entire days on set - often times arriving 8hours late for shooting.
Red One was a fun movie. Its not good by any means, but its a great film to watch with your buddies (especially if you're not sober)
I get unreasonably excited when someone who isn't that familiar with Warhammer likes a Warhammer thing
You can get excited on my behalf ☺
Gotta recommend Hercules from 1983, specifically the space chariot scene (yes, you read that right). Its so stupidly funny but actually well done for the time.
i know you guys checked out the opening credits for severance before, but they did a new one for season two! the first scene of the season is also absolutely insane with the camera work and choreography! everyone reading this go watch severance!
I like how the violence in "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In" is straight out of Tex Avery; it has so much visceral impact and minimal gore.
Over Christmas I visited my family and my parents introduced me to this German sci-fi series from 1966, it’s called Raumpatrouille Orion. They cut a bunch of episodes together into a remaster movie in 2003. It’s interesting to see how they did sci-fi effects in the 60s, maybe you guys wanna take a look at it.
oh hey, I worked on a few of those Red One shots at Rodeo FX! I swear everything in that movie was CGI but hey more work for us I guess haha
That secret level warhammer episode is the best thing ever, i watched it like a 100 times, perfection 👌🏾
Never really got into Warhammer 40k but seeing just a few shots of that episode got me really intrigued. I would watch a whole series if it were ever made.
Those Twilight of the Warriors scenes give off full Kungfu Hustle vibes. Love it
You should look at the Sonic 3 Robot dance and the other two Jim scenes.
The "300: Rise of an empire" scene where someone is riding a horse on a boat
I'm very grateful for finding out about the Kowloon Walled City wuxia film. Was ridiculously good with a LOT of legendary actors in it.
Just watched the react on Astartes, glad to hear the guy did get hired. Also fun to hear Wren has learned more about 40k since that one.
Sam looking like a Russian mafia member with that tracksuit lol
