Ps> this was probably the best demo of the impact of a master clock I have heard. The master clock improves the sustain and makes the Wilsons much more listenable.
Be careful with assumptions; things aren't always what they seem at first glance. The room is very well treated. Daryl Wilson himself said the room sounded "shockingly musical". The side and rear walls are over 30 feet away and are treated with distributed sound panels. The ceiling is covered in broadband acoustic absorption material. The video screen is acoustically transparent with an array of absorptive and reflective panels behind it. The list goes on and on and the results speak for themselves.
Yeah, that is sounding nice, Mikey. The only thing that worries me is that dirty great big reflective screen between the speakers, which would be destroying the sound stage. And in the second room with the new watt puppies, that window would be horrendous, and you can definitely hear it.
I don’t know how you think a TV on a wall would destroy the soundstage when the majority of sound is projected forward. Even Paul from ps audio recommends a TV or picture between the speakers to help with imaging when listening in the sweet spot.
@Prometheus1979 Reflective surfaces that are not treated will smear the image and focus in the projection of a soundstage. If you talk to any sound engineer or acoustician, they will tell you this. Hotlanta... BUCKHEAD Baby! woot Are you saying this sounded better than Big Jay's Big Wilson rig, which he had to sell at a steep loss because he's on an audiophile journey ;-)? 🐑
It sounded more musical and smooth. Jays had more bass slam however. Finally I doubt Jay took a loss. He buys low from desperate sellers and sells at half price while still making money. He knows what he's doing.
I definitely heard a difference with the clock engaged, which is a good thing because I thought i might be losing my hearing touch. I listened to Danny comparing a pair of Wharfdales he modded, and I couldn't hear a dimes worth of difference between the modded and unmodded.
Wilson's can be crazy good if they driven with smooth sounding gear, and they are placed correctly in the room. They are already very dynamic, and maybe don't need help in that area.
@@Oneness100 Obviously it's hard to determine the extent of the room treatment. However, regarding the 4 foot comment, I'd suspect they are spaced ~4 feet from the boundary behind them.
@@FOH3663 It doesn't look like it's 4 ft, it looks less than 3ft. Speakers, especially those, should be at LEAST 4 ft from the rear and side walls. If you can't do that, then the room is too small for the speakers. And this goes for whether you want to do near field or standard listening. In terms of room treatment, all I see are brick walls. Hardly a good surface to have for reflections. In terms of low frequency absorption, there are no low frequency absorption cabinets anywhere in that room, and I HIGHLY doubt the walls are anything other than either brick walls or standard 2x4 studs with building insulation and dry wall. Which BTW, will do NOTHING to absorb room modes below 100Hz. Diffusion? I don't see any in that room.
If you think this sounds good, play the B&W Nautilus (Sara McLaughlin) demo. That is way more airy, way more transparent by a mile! Sorry, it's just probably cos you can't tell on YT, mics and acoustics make a lot of difference. 😅

Listening through my cell phone, I enjoyed the first Wilson combination. But I almost immediately had to shut off the second Wilson combination. Yikes!
I like the smaller Relentless, but the larger ones and the preamp are just too ostentatious for me. I love the Momentum though, especially because there's a phono stage in that series. The new DCS stack that was just announced would probably really make these babies sing even more! Life must be good for the fabulously wealthy.

@baronofgreymatter14 your perception is relative to your life. The people that buy these have much different lives than you. They can lose millions of dollars in a day and it makes no difference to thier life. You must put this into perspective. It's hard to grasp that people buy 10M jets and pay $5K per hour for pilots to take them to small private airports to go skiing for the weekend or wherever they want to go on a whim. The plane is always on call waiting for them and nobody else shares it. That's a small view into these buyers lives. @@OCDHIFiGuy - Miguelito, $700k system and can't remember the $100k cables? 😂😂
If those amps were trimmed in gold i would agree on the gaudy but the copper puts it in the steampunk look to me.
Before I actually saw them, and based on Mikey's description, they sounded like they would be quite gaudy, but I actually like the look, although I would agree, probably not a timeless design,.
To each his own. That's what design is all about ! ;-)
I think the Fischer & Fischer 1000's will kick butt on the Wilsons...
I'm feeling rather confident. Let's see.
Hotlanta... BUCKHEAD Baby! woot
Are you saying this sounded better than Big Jay's Big Wilson rig, which he had to sell at a steep loss because he's on an audiophile journey ;-)?
🐑
It sounded more musical and smooth. Jays had more bass slam however. Finally I doubt Jay took a loss. He buys low from desperate sellers and sells at half price while still making money. He knows what he's doing.
whats the 1st song you played?
It's Goose, Slow Steady from their Dripfield LP. Mickey doesn't like Goose.
Slow Ready... I'm Mikey and I like that band..
Hey Mikey, what's the source/streamer?
@@HiFi.DIVINE good question.i don't know
Your assessment is completely correct, Mikey.
@@a.s.2426 thx 😊
I definitely heard a difference with the clock engaged, which is a good thing because I thought i might be losing my hearing touch. I listened to Danny comparing a pair of Wharfdales he modded, and I couldn't hear a dimes worth of difference between the modded and unmodded.
You better hear a difference
"Dogs and cats, sleeping together...."
Night and day difference between clock on and off 😊
Right ?
Wilson's can be crazy good if they driven with smooth sounding gear, and they are placed correctly in the room. They are already very dynamic, and maybe don't need help in that area.
Agreed.
I think the second system sounded musical as well.
Wow.
I thought it sounded terrible but...we're all different.
To those people who doubted Mikey
This video clearly shows Mikey is honest when expressing his opinions on what he hears..
Thank you. I give credit where it's due. In my own perception and opinion of course...
Scott absolutely knocked it out of the park with that system.
He did a great job.
Yeah, but the room is not treated. I would have pulled the speakers at LEAST 4ft from the wall. you'll get better low frequency response.
@@Oneness100
Obviously it's hard to determine the extent of the room treatment.
Mmmmm. Not so interested in B&W...
That's main system sounds really good and when the clock was turned on you could hear more bloom more omph, I have listened to the rossini both apex and non apex with the external power supply and without and I really don't like it, the new apex bartok with the power supply sounds better and is about half the price, the rossini was ok with instruments but voices sounded muted, flushed out no depth, I listened to the xvx relentless dcs vivaldi apex at axpona but I won't judge it as for a start the room was way to small for the system to breath, they should have swapped the sim audio wilson room ( sounded really good ) with the xvx relentless room as it was 3 time's the size
these sound just like my $500 computer speakers.
Weird, right ?

@@OCDHIFiGuy Glad you liked it. I'll stick with my ProAc's.

Lol. I'm a TAD dealer. Listen to my earlier vids with the R1... yes. They go toe to toe...
First comment....how do you like this rig Mikey??
Yeppers didn't watch 😂
I like the smaller Relentless, but the larger ones and the preamp are just too ostentatious for me. I love the Momentum though, especially because there's a phono stage in that series. The new DCS stack that was just announced would probably really make these babies sing even more! Life must be good for the fabulously wealthy.
The Global Elite are growing...
Yeah it’s nice and all, but anyone can sound great with truckloads of money. What would be really impressive is someone putting together a rig for a small fraction of that cost, and still make it sound amazing.
Not true. Money does not always buy quality of sound in Audio. I want to do the exact thing you mention at Capital audio fest
Goose!
Yes !
Sounds fantastic but I bet you could do it for a lot less…
@O_D_O_U4YA this system is not about value however.. ;-)
With clock was a pretty large difference.

Mikey how do I get you out to Ohio to make a video of my room!?
@@loveDRAGONCON bribe me..
@@OCDHIFiGuy I mean I’ve got a guest room, whole sawmill and yard to see here. But mainly my fully properly acoustic treated room. I’d love to make a video about the room side of things.
All the shows in the many years, i’ve found the D’Agostino-Wilson’s pairing unlistenable and usually played too loud. Only mated with Constellation Audio could i appreciate the big Wilson’s. As for the Master Clock in the dCS chain, I thought you weren’t a big fan of “clocks” (added b/c stock DAC clocks are inferior)?
I think an outboard clock is an intentional upsell. Can just be put inside the DAC. It means they don't put the good one inside the original build.
Im sorry. I love music. It has carried me thru good and bad times. There is no STEREO worth 700k that would make any of that different. There are maybe 0.000000001% of the population that could discern a 10k system from that system. Such a huge waste of time and money.
They spend an hour making this 700K decision then dissappear as thier assistant handles the install..
wealthy folks buying a 10 k system would give them no satisfaction or sacrifice. Its all relative. It would be like buying a $300 all in one from walmart.
all the brands you normally shit talk LMAO.. Good on you to admit previous mistake.. goes to show the setup is a major part of the game, a major part alot of people unfortunately ignore

You cannot tell over TH-cam of course
Seriously? People commenting on the sound of this system from playback of this TH-cam video?? On their home systems? Ouch.
@@uwhanna no. On thier phones...
So why publish the recording?
@@stephanel.4555 I think it's a waste of time and energy, just my take. The whole thing is a bit bizarre when you think about it: the system was recorded using some type of microphone/digital encoder/compressed for TH-cam and played back over other devices/systems. The sound output is totally meaningless (my take).
If you are incapable of getting a general feel for a systems sound character through decent headphones or decent speakers, its time to either clean the cerumen out of your canals and/or buy better headphones/speakers.

Very good combination. The dCS $250K combo are probably taming the Wilson. But dCS is no longer on any on my lists because of their bullying approach to criticisms. Regarding Wilson, I unfortunately did not like what I have heard so far (all below $100K). But then again, I don't have $700K to spend on a system...
This is the Vivaldi, which is $100K. The Varese is $250K and will be featured in October.

On a serious note, $330,000 for these Wilsons? Yikes. I am liking the PMC Fenestria's chances against them at one fifth the price.
@@majicogarcia8417 everyone finds thier Jam...
Wilsons must be set up by a Wilson cat for max performance. Which they perform on your initial delivery. Set them up yourself & you'll be disappointed. Not a speaker the avg jim can uncrate tow in and be good. They're divas which ain't always a good thing. Also, they're giving up mucho sound with each room, way too many reflective surfaces. Prolly hitting only 50% potential.
Still killer regardless
@@OCDHIFiGuy true
Be careful with assumptions; things aren't always what they seem at first glance. The room is very well treated. Daryl Wilson himself said the room sounded "shockingly musical". The side and rear walls are over 30 feet away and are treated with distributed sound panels. The ceiling is covered in broadband acoustic absorption material. The video screen is acoustically transparent with an array of absorptive and reflective panels behind it. The list goes on and on and the results speak for themselves.
