I agree with you, but before those Calibans get to it, may I just correct your statement that it is an opera; 'The Tempest' is a play, although in Shakespeare's time, it did have instrumental music performed live with it, as well as some of the characters singing songs for various purposes: to fill time, to signal their exit (or entrance, if they are off the stage), &c. Music was a vital source of special effects (it still is in cinema), and modern techniques should not replace it, but coexist.
