    I've had some great feedback on this video including some tips for users of Neo Geo "kidney bean" and Neo Geo CD controllers. If you're following along at home I highly urge you to watch this update video - it's only a few minutes and adds some details that I think will be really helpful: th-cam.com/video/C1nrNX-IMAU/w-d-xo.html

    The Atari 8-bit [A8] computer scene is modding games to sense 3 fire buttons. They're doing this by accessing the Paddle Lines. It was actually pioneered by Atari programmer Rob Zdybel back in circa 1981 when he programmed "3-Base Missile Command" for the Atari 8-bits so Atari's own employees in Consumer Engineering could play a more arcade-accurate version of the game on their computers. Dan Kramer, who designed the CX22 Trak-Ball for the 2600/A8 and later the CX53 Trak-Ball for the 5200, built 3-fire button Trak-Ball Controllers for his fellow employees to play the game. So anyway, an adapter for A8 that used the Paddle Lines would be a great way to use the Neo Geo arcade stick with the modern modded games... just a thought. I have one of those NeoGeo sticks modded for use with my 5200, done by Grips03 at AtariAge. He even added a numeric keypad to it...

      Interesting, I wasn't aware of this 3 button mod. Sounds like it would be an easy enough modification. I'll look into it, thanks!

    Great idea. I might pick up some of those breakout boxes to make nice sturdy DB9 extenders.

    • @ctrlaltrees
      @ctrlaltrees  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yup, they'd certainly be good for that. You can chop up an old RGB SCART cable for the 9 core cable, too. That's what I'm using in later videos in the series.

    Great video Rees! I might have missed it, but it's worth noting that while the 5 volt (pin 8) isn't needed for the original stick like you have there, it IS needed for the later kidney bean shaped Neo Geo Stick and the Neo CD game pad.

    • @ctrlaltrees
      @ctrlaltrees  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Todd, thanks for watching and thanks for the tip. This is the only Neo Geo stick that I own so I wasn't aware of the difference. I'll be sure to make it clear in future episodes and I've pinned your comment so hopefully nobody gets tripped up by this!

      This is fantastic. I have a neo cd controller that I’d love to use with more systems. For 5v would that be pin 7 on the Atari side to pin 8 on the neo side?

    • @durkhutmacher6027
      @durkhutmacher6027 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Using the pin out shown in your video at 1:11 and connecting pin 7 from the Atari side to pin 8 on the neo geo side worked for my neo geo cd controller. Thanks again for creating this video. Super fun project!

      Hi Durk, sorry I missed your reply yesterday. TH-cam is very good at hiding these things from us.
      Yes indeed, pin 7 to pin 8 is exactly what you need. Glad to hear that it's working for you! I'm working on an update video where I'll talk about this and some other feedback I've had. I have ordered a CD controller but it'll be a while before it arrives from Japan so it's good to hear that it works with this small modification.
      It really makes my day to hear that people are following my tutorials and getting good results, so thanks so much for the positive feedback! 👍

      Thanks! Apologies for the lack of info, I should have mentioned that in the video. It was from ebay but I imagine electronics places will stock them. The term you'll need to search for is "male DB15 breakout".

    That's excellent to know Rees. I'm looking forward on sharing the Neo-Geo material on the Neo-Geo thread on Atariage.com. Good to know that you're staring out with your channel. I'm sure you have plenty to say and share with us for sure. If you like, come by the Atariage forums and have a look around. Seeing tat you collect Atari goodies, we certainly have plenty of avid Atari members in the community that share your interest as well. I think you'll enjoy it. 8^)
    Thank you for the reply Rees. Going to enjoy what you have to offer kind sir. 8^)

    Can you build an adapter to use the amiga pad on the neogeo console?

    • @ctrlaltrees
      @ctrlaltrees  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean the CD32 pad? It wasn't on my radar to be honest but it certainly seems like it would be possible.

      My goal is to be able to play with a joyball for amiga 500 on a pandora consolized console that mounts inputs for the neo geo pads. (Becouse I want to play Crystal Castle like an arcade cabinet). Could a megadrive to neo neo geo adapter be good?

    Hi and like others, thanks for sharing.
    I tried myself with a MAX 330 MEGA to my Atari Falcon by using a dirtier method : a breadboard and a female DB9 and a male DB15.
    I followed the instructions and wired the simple board . I checked the resistance between pins and it's ok but unfortunately, it's not working.
    Are you aware of anything specific for Falcon joystick port ( I used the one from the bottom of the unit, not those on the left side ).
    I'll triple check later and I will check voltage but I am really frustrated as finding an ATARI compatible joystick in Japan is complicated ... and your wonderful video sounded like a Graal for me :)
    But feedback shows that I did something wrong but for now, I'm lost ...
    Else I will order the same stuff as you but I'll have to wait - and patience is not one of my best qualities :)
    Thanks again and bye !

    • @ctrlaltrees
      @ctrlaltrees  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't now much about the Falcon - it has the enhanced 15-pin joystick ports, right? Are you connecting to those with an adapter? It seems that pin 7 of the Falcon joystick port provides +5VDC which you will need for the later Neo Geo joysticks (please see my update video linked above). Maybe the 9-to-15-pin adapter you're using with the Falcon doesn't provide power as the original 9 pin Atari joysticks didn't use it?
      You may be pleased to hear that my future plans do include the Atari 15-pin enhanced joystick port as it's the same one used on the Jaguar. I'd gladly share the info but that's still a few videos off so I haven't even started prototyping it yet.
