But couldn't at least the military occupation zones of Uganda and Tanzania be shown during their war? Or perhaps the Uganda-backed Congolese faction during the Second Congo war?
These videos about Uganda and Zanzibar made me realize how complex was actually the organization of the British Empire rather than just being "occupy and conquest"
The Rwenzururu peoples wanted to be separate from the Toro Kingdom, which the British refused. The Rwenzururu actually declared independence a couple months before Uganda became independent, and the insurgency went on for like 30 years. IIRC I believe the Rwenzururu king was literally arrested on charges of murder a couple years ago.
A couple nitpicks, Ankole wasn't formed until 1914, when ten minor kingdoms were merged into the new kingdom, with the largest, Nyabushozi, also called Nkore, assuming leadership. Also, the Buddu province of Buganda, wast of Kooki, extended into modern Tanzania until 1890, when the southern part Missenyi, was split off to become part of German East Africa. There were also ten small states in the Kigezi region west of Ankole, I don't know too much about them, but they ceased to exist before independence, and one of them, Bufumbira, was formerly a Rwandan vassal until 1910.
So whats going on with the whole subnational kingdoms thing? How do they work? Why was Rwenzururu unrecognised for so long, and on that note why is it's name so damn long? Why wasn't Ankole restored? Why were the other four restored? TLDR: Whats the deal with them?
They’re the pre-national kingdoms of various peoples within the country whose status is preserved. It’s kind of like the UAE, but with the monarchs being ceremonial and none heading the country.
Oh, Uganda! May God uphold thee, We lay our future in thy hand; United, free for liberty together we'll always stand. Oh, Uganda! The land that feeds us, By sun and fertile soil grown; For our own dear land, we shall always stand, The Pearl of Africa's Crown.
Rwanda and Burundi nowadays are the only of the formerly numerous Great Lakes kingdoms that retain independence. Wild that had things turned out different, modern-day Uganda could've been 6 or 7 separate countries! I do wonder why Uganda never reestablished the Ankole kingdom though.
What was that small "unclaimed" rhombus between Ankole and Buganda present between 1740 and 1896? Some smaller, less-notable chiefdom or is it just unknown who owned that territory?
You mean His Excellency, president-for-life Al-Hadji Dr. Idi Amin Dada, V.C., D.C.O, Lord of all the beasts of the Earth and fishes of the sea, conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in general and Uganda in particular. Uncrowned King of Scotland.

The north has a different ethnic super-type, Nilo-Saharan instead of the south's Bantu. Arguably it should be an entirely different country. This probably has a lot to do with it but I can't say for sure.
you don't make any sense. Uganda has lots of ethnicities within it, so who won? Who lost? Imo its a loss for everyone. just like how England and France being forcibly put together would be.
@@PikaPluffyes but the 'Uganda Protectorate' territory wasn't defined as an actual kingdom before the British created it, according to the map. But was added to the rest when Britain left. I understand maps, diagrams like this are merely a basic illustration, a lot missing, but those kingdoms would probably be part of neighbouring countries now without the British. Maybe a good thing maybe not. I'm not casting any ethical judgements here
