@@kelly-kx2io Dennis Locorriere sounds like he's about to cry while singing the song. This sounds so off ,emotionally, that it ruins the lyrics with a dry delivery
Dr Hook was great and this song is still great. Dennis Locorriere was an amazing person with a loyalty to the band. His voice is borderline iconic and reached the top of the charts. But JBJ is a world class singer also with more power. It really does not matter who sings this song I like it.
That was not mere singing; that was a heart rending performance by a great artist. This is what singing should be all about; not the new fangled hip hop nonsense.
I have to be honest here. Bon Jovi is a very talented band and I've enjoyed several songs of theirs. But this would never be one of them. There are some bands that release a song, it just belongs to them. Sylvia's Mother is one of those. It was and will forever be, a Dr Hook's song.
Dr. Hook will always have a special place in my life. But bon Jovie more than did this song justice! May the younger generation follow his version...and keep this song playing....
Jon has a great voice, is handsome, is talented and really did a great job. But Dr. Hook's Dennis singing this song made you feel it. His raspy voice made you hear the tears and desperation of wanting to talk to Sylvia. May God bless America!
Yeah I agree. I commented too but nobody gets it. There’s a saying called “Tear” in vocals. Maybe when I wrote that tear can mean different things. Tear in voices means crying in your voice. Tear also means ripping paper or whatever. Maybe people don’t get it🤷♀️Sylvia’s Mother is the best one. Country songs have some fantastic ones too.
I remember Australia fell in love with Dr Hook wĥen the came out to tour... they were on every TV show and the guys were very laid back and fun loving guys very much like Australians so we embraced them..they even recorded a local colonial song... the wild Colonial boy about an Irish Australian bushranger.....we just. Loved them❤but good job Bon but uyour nodennisy Jovi..buts your no Dennis locorriere❤
There's not nothing John cannot do he's so amazing I love him so much after 40 years he's still taking my breath away with his music he's amazing man.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Well, I'm a Sylvia and my gym teacher, Mr. Campbell, used to sing this to me before every gym class in the 70's & 80's. I think his version was the best. Dr. Hook & Bon Jovi can't compare to my gym teacher....lol...sweet guy. 😊
Hey to the dude that commented after my post which I can answer your douchebag you have no clue what you're even talking about Dr Hook is on a completely different level then Bon Jovi! You must be from New Jersey or something LOL!
It doesn't matter how many people will cover a Bon Jovi song actually. This is about the performance of Bon Jovi playing this awesome song. When i 1st heard Dr. Hooks version i got a lump in my throat just listening to it. Now Bon Jovi does the same to me. Bon Jovi understood the essence of the song. And didn't try to rape it of it's dignity. I would say Thumbsup for this!
I agree I don't think there is nothing he can't sing or cover. He has an amazing voice for any kind of genre of music. I have never heard this song, after hearing Jon sining it I wish they would put it on their next album. I also wish they would do a cover album of some of thier favorite songs. Bon Jovi Rules!
i think the drummer is great, he made this song alive, this could only be done by deep emotional feeling toward this song,as shown by the drummer. as for the the singer, bon jovi, the record speaks for itself.
They sound great, but I,m old school. Dr.Hook is awesome, not only on this song , but all of their songs. FOREVER A DR. HOOK FAN.. but these guys really did do a great job kudos....
Great version of the song by Bon Jovi - love this group - best rock group in the world. These guys compliment one another so well - a group that was just "meant to be".
@MrWalkinDog Huh since that song was written before most of us was born I doubt that --I looked it up --Sylvia's Mother" was a 1972 single by Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show and the group's first hit song. It was written by Shel Silverstein and was highly successful in the United States, reaching #5 on the Billboard singles chart,
@MrWalkinDog [1] as well as #1 in Ireland and #2 in the United Kingdom.[2] It also spent 3 weeks at #1 on the Australian music charts,[3] making it the 15th ranked single in Australia for 1972. It appeared on the group's first album, Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show.
I've watched this several times, for a few months now and I'm convinced Jon has lived this song. No doubt when he was a lot younger and maybe even with his wife's mother. He believes every heartfelt word, Can't fake that emotion.
WOW, I didn't realize what song this was until I played it. I loved this song and Jon does a great job with it. LOVE IT!! Thanks for posting. What a memory lane trip............
How brilliant.Jon´s voice touching everybodys heart and soul.A great song and great lyrics by Dr. Hook. I´ll always start crying by listening this version of BJ!! Bon Jovi is the greatest band on the planet. I love them!!
LOVE, love, love this song by Dr. Hook and now, my man Bon Jon sings it! I loved it!! Man, I wish you guys would sing Carrie Me, Carrie! Another one of those old beautiful songs that not many people know or appreciate!!!!
Mr. Torres: You are absolutely one of the finest percussionists on the planet. Your work on this particular rendition makes it so very hard to forget and I can only hope to play with the same kind of style, emotion and at your level one day. Thank you.
They werent trying to top Dr Hook, they were simply paying homage to a great jewel of a song.
Thank you Shel Siverstien
Exactly, JBJ did an excellent cover of the classic Dr Hook song.
Wise words Dave
They lacked the emotion of the of the original.
@@kelly-kx2io Dennis Locorriere sounds like he's about to cry while singing the song. This sounds so off ,emotionally, that it ruins the lyrics with a dry delivery
This is a great version!!! Dr. Hook is great, but Bon Jovi did a very good job of this. Very good.

I grew up with parents that worshiped "Dr. Hook". This is a great replay with modern sound to it. I love it!
OK I am the parent Its OK
I've never even considered the idea of anyone covering Dr. Hook but WoW!! that blew me away..one of the best covers i've heard anyone do!!!
List to Jennifer Nettles do Queens Bohemian Rhapsody. It is awesome aswell.
No argument here!

Dynamite.
Good grief and Gary Wright just died last week.
I saw him with Ringo's All Star Band.
Super talent.
Just wow
I love Doctor Hook. Im here always
This singer icon is legendary 🙌 💯💯💯💯💯

Yes, I agreed to!!
Tom Pabst Well in agreement here love Dr.Hook

Yes of course. Dr. Hook WAY more heartfelt ! (And I love Bon Jovi too) .

Their rendition of Wild Colonial Boy is my favorite ever!
Dr Hook owns this song. No-one can sing it with the same emotion as he does.
Dr. Hook doesn't own it. The name on the copyright is Shel Silverstein and he's been dead more than 20 years.
@@willdwyer6782 what I meant when I said Dr Hook owned the song was in the context of saying he sings it the best.

Dr. Hook were a band not a singular he !
absolutely beautiful version of this beautiful song, never thought anyone else could do it justice, but John's voice is perfect for this.
This is such a great version. Jon and Richie sing this with heart! Wish they would do this on tour.

Dr Hook
Nichts geht über das Original von Dr. Hook und der Stimme von Dennis.
Nice job, for sure - but no one, no group will ever, ever touch Dr. Hook's original version. Thanks for posting, tough! Such a sad song...
But atleast they keep it alive.
Wow that's so crazy I almost just posted the exact same thing you ain't never going to touch Dr Hook but damn he came close!

Music does justice, but no way does the singing even approach the angst and emotions that Dennis gave this song. And no Ray backing him up!
Nobody will ever beat Dennis on anything. Bon Jovi did a great job tho!!
It was ok, but we all have our own bias on things.
