Trout are not fragile animals. They do not die from being touched. Getting them unhooked and back in the water provides for least mortality. Fatal gill hookings do happen, but are pretty rare. Happy fishing!
Beautiful fish!! So far the 16" have been my biggest, but I usually only use size 4. I'm hoping to get an 18-20" this year. Will size 4 still work or should I go size 6 instead?
Awesome weather we've been getting in WI! I experienced my first pre-season trout fishing and noticed way more activity. Would you say that there is more action during this time and fall than in the summer? Also, is it worth carrying a thermometer to check water temps - like how cold is too cold and i should probably move to a different stream? Tight lines friend!
Water temps are still too cold for peak action, but the fish are roused with the early spring. This weather is concerning for many reasons concerning trout, but mostly due to low water. Carrying a thermometer is a good idea now. Water under 38-40 is a pass. Happy fishing!
Greetings from upstate NY. Do you attach a leader to your braid or tie directly to lure? Is there a knot you recommend if you tie directly to braid? Thanks.
Wisconsin has had a new early season for about oh I don't know 5 years maybe. Starts the first Saturday in January for catch and release only. happy fishing!
Lol it looked like your spinner didn't want to go in the cold water. Wow great fish. Beautiful Beautiful browns. Great video.
Thanks and happy fishing!
Bravo majstore.
Thanks and happy fishing!
Browns ate pretty tough for a stream trout. They can take a lot.

You can go way bigger. I am using PM size 15s - 1/2 ounce lures now. Happy fishing!
Good to know. I will definitely get bigger ones then. Thanks Ron!@@WisconsinTroutFishing

No leader necessary in WI. I tie straight to a duo clasp with a Palomar knot. Happy fishing!
How do you fish in February, doesn’t the season start March 1st?

What type of line do u use? Braid or fluro?
10# Power Pro braid is the best line I have found for stream trout fishing. I have used all types and brands. Happy fishing!
Where in Wisconsin?
I mostly fish the WI driftless area. Check out WI DNR maps for places u may want fish. Happy fishing!
