- With its mini foreigner focused nightlife area, locals nightlife (albeit less than in former times), some classic cheap old hotels, markets, lovely parks, foreign consulates, malls, & a lot of smiley university girls Khon Kaen still has a lot to offer travelers who want to slow down a bit. It has become a bit faded, but there are signs of rejuvenation with the new train station & upgraded track, & the new high speed train line under construction which will surely put Khon Kaen back on the intrepid travelers map. Come & check this classic, if lesser known, stop on the northern Issan train line in this episode of Seeker of the Way.

Good place to swing through for a look... 😊
I used to live in KK back in 2015, absolutely loved it. That being said 2015 was no where as good as when I first was there in 2009. Going back in 2020 it was unrecognisable to the two previous times I'd been there. I love KK; been all over Thailand and its still one of my favourite towns.
Home sweet home 🙏🥳🥰🥳🙏
The lakeshore park looks quite nice.👍
It was Nana live here. A video city.
It is inspiring to know that in some instances you are retracing your route of several years ago .It seems you got a very good deal at the hotel. I must admit I slipped up. I thought you were heading for Nong Khai. The very act of observation alters the supposedly objective reality... perhaps.
Well said!
Why so lonely? Seems not much people live in the town ?
what's the name of that hotel? that's the BEST DEAL I think I've ever seen, this is another glaring deficiency of KK, accomodations. The old bus station, as is typical, was ringed by blocks of reasonable places to stay.
I forget the name, but you can see it when I'm outside just before I show inside it! :)
Roma hotel i think I noticed, yep 260 is definitely not a bad deal, I love my Agoda app, super deals, just got 75% off on 2 nights in a great hotel in Vientiane, time for new visa 🙏
The bus station was moved because of traffic in city
The city bus station is where I indicated it is & has been there since they got the green & white aircon buses donated to them from Japan to service the border crossing about at least 6 years ago or more. It's just that they are building a new bus station on the old site as they continue to run buses from that site so it looks terrible. Before they had the green & white buses they had a small old rusty bus that serviced the border crossing, but I forget exactly where it stopped in the city as I used it only once - maybe you are referring to that. Before that I used to take tuk tuks to the border.
I'm not sure of the status of the long distance intercity bus stations on the edge of the town as I haven't used them in years, but hopefully I can update about them in the near future. :)
It’s in a better place now for people from outside city villages who have traveled from Bangkok etc not having to sit in traffic into and out of city to get home
