    Good video 👍. I like how you add clips from all rugby games. Mens, womens, international, club, underage the whole lot.

    Sometimes I really don't understand rugby laws. It's illegal to tackle someone above the shoulders but it's somehow ok to throw a hand into a tacklers eyes.

    • @vonteflon
      @vonteflon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Yeah but those two facts are complementary - if you tackle low enough you won’t get a hand in your face.

    • @jamierobertson9832

      @@vonteflon fair point yet there are many occasions when a tackler is vertical and going for the ball. Trying to dislodge the arm that is holding the ball etc. If the rules for above shoulder height are for a defending player then surely it should be the same for an attacking player?. I love a good fend off against the chest or shoulder but it's super dangerous to be pushing hard at a defenders eyes.

      Eye gouging is nit OK, and against the laws. I didn't see any fingers going into any eyes, nor did you

    Absolutely fucking brilliant video mate. You really highlighted the true art of the fend, one of the most under appreciated aspects of the game. As I've said before, nothing quite like a face full of "fuck right off!!" Ten out of ten.

    Great vid but where is furlong vs all blacks 2018? Iconic hand-off

    As a Frenchman that fend from Carter on Papé in RWC 2015 QF was so brilliant it still hurts...

    • @CyclepathicMonster

      2015*, and I can't believe the triple fend from J. Savea in the same match wasn't also included, an absolute monster try

    • @maximedarcot9076
      @maximedarcot9076 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CyclepathicMonster Ah yes 2015 of course (edited my comment)
      To be honest, I wouldn't qualify Savea's try as a triple fend. It's more of a running-straight-through-french-speedbumps type of try.

    Some fantastic " don't argues " there. Thank you for including the late sione lauaki's fend on the goat 🐐 ritchie, that play got him in the all blacks.

    Great compilation. It does raise the question though of if contact to the head/face/neck is illegal in a tackle, is it so different just because you have the ball?

    • @joedennehy386
      @joedennehy386 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes if you use your open hand, no if you use your fist or elbow, or forearm

    • @mole5k1
      @mole5k1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joedennehy386 it's a good point though. If a tackler went in with an open hand and shoved the attacking player in the face, even without contact with eyes it would be a penalty wouldn't it?

    • @rorycunningham2316
      @rorycunningham2316 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      By my count, of the 71 hand-offs in the video:
      [11] - make direct contact with the eye area (0:04, 0:15, 0:44, 1:42, 2:27, 3:09, 3:13, 3:40, 4:17, 4:25, 4:49)
      [6] - make contact with the face but don't make contact with the eyes (as best I can tell) (0:54, 0:58, 2:10, 2:56, 3:23, 4:08)
      (3:49) may be a forearm smash/leading elbow, but the angle makes in hard to see
      (0:22) is interesting because the defending is dropped on his head, but since he's the tackler, I'm not sure if it's illegal. There is also mitigation since the tackler jumps into the hand-off.

  • @Waywind420
    @Waywind420 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In rugby it is completely *legal* to run at a guy and open palm him to the face with the kinetic energy of a king hit and carry on towards the try line.
    Someday it will be exposed for the oversight that it is...but someone is going to have to get really fkd up by a face fend for that to happen.
    Absurd .

  • @Ding_Bat
    @Ding_Bat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m always one for a big handoff, but handoffs to the neck/face have always been questionable to me. If the tackler isn’t allowed to go above the shoulders, then surely the runner shouldn’t be either? 50/50 in my book…
