  • Building Col John Landers' famous 'Big Beautful Doll' with a bit of a twist - at the end of World War 2 he became commander of the 361st Fighter Group which had yellow noses and medium blue trim instead of the 78th Fighter Group's more famous black and white checkerboards with red trim. So here is a different Big Beautiful Doll than you may have seen before!
The new Meng P-51D is a stunning kit with perfect fit (except gun fairings) and outstanding surface detail. It was a bit of a shame since I had to work very hard to get rid of the wing details to replicate the puttied smooth surface on wartime P-51s...
    Hope you like her!

Super job on what looks like a really nice kit...the cockpit was excellently detailed. Love the colors and finish with the bare metal! Happy New Year! Cheers : )

Very nice work well done on the multiple metallic tones and general excellent paint finish especially the yellow nose. A great looking P5.

Thank you! Was a lot of fun this build and a bit different from previous warbirds I've done due to all the different colour areas... got a Sea Harrier on the go now - you? Happy New Year!

I've got a 1/72 Eduard Aero L39 on my bench. Build vid will be up in early Jan. Then will be cracking on with a Yak130.

May I ask how you made the seatbelts? Did they come from an aftermarket kit? Or from scratch? Any tips on making them if by scratch?

Hi Jimmy! I cut thin strips of ordinary masking tape and stuck them together sticky-side to sticky-side with one strip longer than the other at each end. Then used thin lead wire bent around tweezers to create the 'buckles' which were threaded on and then cross-pinned. Dave's Model Workshop has a detailed (albeit quite long) tutorial video for this technique here: th-cam.com/video/NBywmDt7-Ks/w-d-xo.html. To be honest I find it's not quite worth the effort given pre-painted photo-etch seatbelts can be ordered from Hannants for almost any kit for around a fiver but it's a fun challenge once or twice! Thanks for watching :-)
