I almost hate to admit it, but Dweezil is an even better guitarist that Frank. I never even thought that was a possibility. I first saw Dweezil live in Baltimore when they dedicated that Finnish statue bust of Frank. My jaw hit the pavement! It was well into the 80°s. Dweezil never broke a sweat. Frank used to make great faces when he played - like it was killing him to pull out those notes. Dweezil plays like it’s absolutely no work at all. He doesn’t appear to have his father’s creativity, but his guitar skills are a gift from Heaven

Guitar skills are a gift from God and his dad - the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

You can see Dweez fighting back his emotion, tears here. Frank said Dweezil ONLY was allowed to play this. It took Dweez about 4 tours before he tried to play it. Still breaks him (and me) up

That's what made his version good. He works his way thru it.

I once tried to kill myself and decided to listen to this song one last time only to remember the good stuff and now it's been 15 years since that day

I think what gets Dweezil, is the same as gets me. Its the simple beauty of this tune. Frank loved to make complicated music but this one tune is so simple and pure it is stunning. No fancy stuff, just musical beauty. And therfore Frank is revealing his softer side. I have loved this tune from first hearing, and noted it down for my funeral tune. We all know why.

When Dweezil plays this song in tears it's probably the most poignant and at the same time most beautifull moment of guitar music. My late father introduced me to lots of progressive music, including Frank Zappa, and I always think about him when I hear this song. Thank you dad, I hope your soul is free like this guitar solo that flies through the ether.

This is probably the most emotional I have ever felt in an instrumental tune ever, I should check out Frank's original now. Frank was an absolute genius. What a son to have, I am a fan for life now

makes me want to weep and Frank wasn't my dad... I have no idea how Dweezil keeps it so together in this performance, all I know is that the world is an infinitely better place with him playing his dad's music. Thank you, son of god!

I think he cries every time he performs it. It is just heartbreaking, it is so clear how much he misses dad. He waited a long tome to do it live. I cry at each of the performances I've, saved over the years. Bless your dear heart Dweezil. You manage to brush up against the muse that kissed Frank.

It was said that "Peaches En Regalia" was written for the birth of Dweezil. Whether that's true or not, this version of WIEH is brilliant!

Just finished watching the documentary "Zappa" directed by Alex Winter and was cruising around watching this and that from Zappa history on the web. After watching his final project The Yellow Shark, this video was suggested. Dweezel is so moving in his tearful rendition of Watermelon in Easter Hay. Wiping away tears as he played, it is clear how much he loves his dad and the song is so beautiful. What a wonderful way to cap off an evening of Zappa memories. Thanks Dweezel 👍. Your dad was truly a musical genius.

Yeah man, how he holds it together is beyond me. Must be some cosmic Zappa debris that gives him the strength to nail these notes in this masterpiece.

Thank you Dweezil. I cried the day Frank passed away. Every time I hear Watermelon in Easter Hay tears swell up. Frank's music, from 1970 when I first heard him on vinyl, to today has been my favorite. To think what he gave us and to think what more he had to give. I miss Frank. Dweezil thank you for playing and spreading Frank's music, and you are the most amazing guitar musician. Nothing more to add as I wipe away another tear.

To play in Frank’s or Dweezil’s bands, you HAD to be a premier musician. Have seen Frank twice (I’m old!) and Dweezil once and consider my self blessed! Hope DZ starts to tour again!

I don't particularly like his phrasing. Maybe it's just me, or too obvious comparison with "the other one" who used to play it?

Most "Frank" fans are used to hearing the way he structured an abstract solo, so, unless it's played off of a sheet, which, then isn't abstract, no 2 will be the same. IMO, Dweezil is a better guitarist than Frank was. Frank always sounded a bit "clunky" to me when he pushed his playing to the limit, BUT, also, IMO, Frank's 1988 Barcelona live version of this was one of the best solo's he's ever played, live or in studio, as he covered everything from short periods of "blur machine" to just holding the open note at the end with the whammy bar and every second of it sounded flawless, even though it was a one of a kind. R.I.P. Frank, and thank you for the wonder of sharing your talent and creations with us all.
