    people are talking about rule changes but one big thing is that the celing to offensive skill set is way higher than the ceiling of defensive fundamentals. look at how ball handling shot and shot making has developed it is night and day to 50 years ago. but if iwere to look are defensive fundamentals like moving side to side, bending your knees and predicting moves, those things didnt like drastically develop. its not like there have been created new ways to block or steal balls but a lot of new ways to score. its not just rule changes

    • @OldManClutch
      @OldManClutch ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well there are so many more ways to score because the rule changes have all favored the offense .. and one reason ball handling is so drastically different is because carrying the ball and traveling used to be enforced totally different .. totally different !!

    I think with the increase of scoring, they should definitely bring back hand checking to help contrast it. At the end of the day players are becoming more creative offensively and it seem like every team has at 3 to 4 guys that could average 20 a night.

And it’s worth more points? It’s just evolution of the game.

    Im not the smartest when it comes to bball but I feel like today its much more about team defense than man to man. Teams know curry, tatum, luka, etc. Are going to get past their guy/ take advantage of the help defense when it isn't in the right spot so teams are more focused on making sure they close out or don't give up the easy passes.

    You win basketball games by out playing the other team whether that be defense scheme scoring etc you have to do something better than your opponent to win putting points on the board is one of those things and it's kind of weird to me that we have a problem with people putting points on the board because it's not the way that we want them to do it.

    Kenny you're tripping getting salty over D Mills rooting for Donovan Mitchell to score 70 when so many times in your videos you talk about wanting to just enjoy basketball, and forgetting the extra bullshit

    I think all these criticisms about this era of basketball is always forgetting that now the previous legends are coaches. That means young players will be coached better than before. This is also the information era too. Before you might have to get lessons in person, now you look up TH-cam tutorials or TikTok. I think for the next decade or so we will see a lot more people that are talented.

      For sure, the players are only gonna get more and more skilled, shoot from farther away, etc.

      I don’t think there’s really much correlation between being a legendary player and being a good coach. We’ve seen plenty of legendary players struggle as coaches. And a lot of the best coaches were just role players or didn’t even play in the NBA.

      @CheechyMon ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Simon_Sez I'm not necessarily saying there is a correlation. Even if a coach wasn't a legendary player, they are probably better at coaching than a coach that was around when they were young. The point I was making is the game and the players are always evolving. The second part of that point is that since this is the information era, access to film or tutorials from former players, or like you said someone that wasn't even in the NBA, is readily available for young people. Coaches and players are able to learn things now that they may have never had access to. Also you don't have to be a good coach for someone to learn something from you. An example not relating to basketball is if you ever had a bad teacher. I'm sure you probably can learn something from them even if they are a bad teacher. Same thing with a coach they may not even be teaching you something you might just pick something up from observation.

      @@Simon_Sez also if you want an example of the information era being a factor, just look up that kid from like 2015 that copied Curry's pregame warmup. He literally just learned it from watching Steph, but Curry wasn't his coach. The access to the videos of Curry taught him.

    I think they have a fouls resulting in free throws problem. I’m not sure if the rate of fouls today are much higher than say the 1960s but it is much higher than the mid 70s to mid 2000s. I’m not sure what the rate of fouls resulting in free throws is but my theory is it’s much higher today. I think the nba will eventually tip more toward bringing physicality back though.
