Fort Santiago - Intramuros, Manila

Fort Santiago, located within the historic walled city of Intramuros in Manila, Philippines, has a rich history dating back to the Spanish colonial period. It was built in the late 16th century, around 1571, shortly after the Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi founded the city of Manila.

It also served as a prison during various periods, including the Spanish and American colonial periods, and was infamous for its role in incarcerating Filipino nationalist leader José Rizal before his execution in 1896.
