Enjoyed your video. So far this month in Melbourne I have seen at least 12 Orchard Swallowtails. Quite a number for this time of year. What a sight they are. Thanks.
These big butterflies are quite rare in Victoria. We had heaps in 2010/2011 when we had all the tropical weather and flooding rains during summer, which probably brought them down from QLD
@@TheGardenersLife Last time i saw one was in Brisbane in December 2013. Was out walking in Bridgeman Downs and saw a large female flying towards me, she flew straight in my face and i jumped! (i'm actually scared of large butterflies and moths :( )
I currently have a black version of the orchard swallowtail with yellow spots, it's still in caterpillar form and only just attacked himself to a stick. However I'm worried that he is too small, does the size matter for them to properly complete their next stage of cocooning?
Hiw awful to place the pupa in such a small slippery slided container and with no sticks for the for the butterfly to hang on to while inflating its wings. also very bad to be handling the new butterfly. this is all awful and inconsiderate
I want to plant a lemon tree specifically so that I can see more of these caterpillars/butterflies, they're so very cute!
I just saw one of these pretty fellows in my flats backyard. Beautiful little guy. 🦋

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.
You shouldn't put the pupa in a container smaller than its wing span. It may get damage itself while inflating its wings
Oh my god it's the guys from my lemon tree! THEY ATE EVERY LEAF ON MY TREE!!!
Yeah mine too
Woww nice
