She’s one of those amazing women who played a character so well it had an effect on the world. Her character in x-files was so badass that a whole wave of women went into STEM fields. She didn’t make a change because of looks, she made a change because she’s so badass.

Even though I know she played Margaret Thatcher in The Crown, I couldn't see it then and I still can't see it now. That make-up department deserves awards for sure. She looked entirely different and Gillian Anderson molded her stance, speech, mannerisms and everything else perfectly. She disappears so successfully into Thatcher. Incredible. She is iconic for nearly every role she has every played.
I had no idea it was her either, until i saw her name in the credits and went, "Wait, what? Who???" 😂 She was absolutely fantastic!

She’s bidialectal. So is John Barrowman. Raised in two countries and can code switch.
She's also British as much American.

I think it sounds more British than it used to, since she has been living in the UK for a couple of decades now. I think most of her roles since the X-Files have been English characters as well? A rare example of the opposite situation to the British actors known mostly for playing American-accented characters.

she only brings out the american accent when she's in the states or doing something like this with a primarily american audience, her "natural" accent is english and she uses it when she's on tv or adverts over here. she's lived here longer than she lived in the states now (32 years vs 23 years) so it makes sense

This is particularly pertinent because when I first used the internet in September 1996, one of the first things I searched for were pics of Gillian Anderson! I was in luck too, there were many fan pages. Not difficult to see why.
She flips her American and British dialects effortlessly and flawlessly.....just depending on who she is around. Ms G is amazing . She's still got it. I crushed on her in 1993 and I still do now.
