    Great video, thanks. I'm not sure which, but I think the top right fuel line is the one you need to ease the nut off to bleed it. I've owned the same model for 13 years now and burnt out two fuel pumps from not bleeding it after servicing it. Sometimes you get lucky but not always.

    Thermoking quoted me $500-600 to do a service on my tripak evolution, which is insane considering Freightliner charges me $450 for a PM service on my Cascadia.
    This video will save me $$$, thank you Ryan. I’ll edit and update how it went after I do the service myself.

    I've been using the same unit for the past 12 years, and servicing it myself like you do, but, just a couple of years ago I was at TK dealer for a repair while on the road, and I was told that one should never use the top oil fill plug when servicing because you can damage the injectors, you should use the side oil fill hole, It didn't make sense to me, and I don't know why? But that's how I fill the oil since. BTW, you can use a Mobile 1 oil filter as well ( M110) And I too use furnace air filter, the green big sheet at Home Depot , it's about $10 and you can cut six , or 8 of them. Much cheaper than the blue OEM air filter that goes in the sleeper, under the bed.

      Important: The fill port on top of the engine should not be used to add engine oil. To
      prevent engine lock-up and/or serious internal damage after TriPac engine oil
      is added or changed always add oil through the lower port on the timing gear cover. Straight out of the operator's manual.

    I bought an old Schneider truck (2018 Freightliner Cascadia) last February. My APU ran perfect. (Thermo TriPac Evolution) Right up until a tire behind it blew out. It destroyed my skins, ripped off the fuel lines, broke the fuel pump. Once I got it running again, due to the delay in receiving the replacement skins, the alternator ended up going bad.
    Again, once I got everything running again it worked not as good but almost.
    Then I started getting the yellow triangle. She kept running. Then she turned to a red triangle. Stopped working.
    I took it apart, couldn't see anything obviously wrong. I ended up taking it to TK. They didn't fix anything, but gave me a list of what's wrong. I've addressed most of the issues.
    I could use some advice to the last issue. Before the tire issue my APU in standby mode would turn on. But once charged it wouldn't turn off.
    Now it doesn't turn on when the voltage is low, nor off.
    I was told by TK the amp meter plug was broken. It's flat out missing. I looked into buying a new main harness. At $1,600.00 I thought I'd checkout other options.
    My question is, what does the amp meter do? I know it adds hours of uses to the meter. Does it also control the low/high voltage on/off function?

    This was super helpful. This is the first time I've actually observed somebody doing everything they do with the APU lol. Thank you. I always go to Thermo King to get it done but a lot of the times they complain about how hard everything is to reach like I can help it. And I've had them add too much oil more than once. The older ones take four and a half quarts. A lot of people don't know what they're doing even though they work at the dealer. I've learned that you can ask for the most experience person to work on your unit, not the new guy. How do you keep stuff from dripping on your belt? Like the fuel?

    • @jimb8842
      @jimb8842 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could use a piece of heavy plastic. Maybe the bottom of a plastic milk jug if it fits in there. I would be using full synthetic oil unlike Ryan. Aftermarket parts are almost never worth it. There's a reason they are cheaper than OEM. Not same quality or specs. End up costing more $ in the long run along with the waste of time and extra aggravation. Ask a real professional.

    Would you recommend getting an APU, or should an o/o just idle? Are the cost savings from the APU worth the large price to have one installed? Thanks.

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I highly recommend an apu on a new truck, or buying a used truck that has one installed. Prolonged idle time is the number 1 killer of dpf/scr emissions systems, i never idle my truck for more than 30 minutes. You also have to look at idle time fuel consumption, at current fuel prices, a 10 hour break idling could cost you around $20, times that by 250 days out a year, you're at $5,000 a year in wasted fuel, not to mention the engine and emissions damage.

    • @weylandthomas9031
      @weylandthomas9031 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Road-Field-Home with Ryan & Sophia I see. I didn’t know idling was #1 for dpf issues. I’ll definitely take that into consideration for my first truck purchase

      Most of the commie states will fine you for idling your truck. Security/cops will wake you up unless it’s in the extreme weather conditions. I was sleeping on a ramp and a city cop knocked really hard on the side of my truck to wake me up and asked me to shut off my truck last summer on a very humid day. That was in Eagan, MN.

    • @yankeered5625

      Old post but 100% support any truck getting a apu. Don't waste your time with electric apu the ac on them go bad quickly. Also getting a diesel apu just saved me this week when my alternator went down. Was able to have the apu keep rhe batteries charged till I got home. Can't do that with a battery apu. Also a diesel apu will outlast any electric apu. They cost more upfront but in my opinion they are well worth the price for comfort. As everyone stated idling kills these newer trucks.

      This truck doesn’t have emission. So it really depends on if the truck running bothers you or not when you are sleeping.

      @@truckingandfixing Most of the oil doesn’t drain down into the pan. It sits at the top of the engine and can/most likely will flood the engine. The side engine access compartment goes directly to the oil pan where the oil should rest. Oil is the then pumped up into oil filter and then throughout the engine.
