Phoebes powers were always my favorite and soooo underrated. Her power has saved the day so many times and who wouldn't wanna prevent tragedies you can avoid. I love by season 5 she could get premonitions on command!
The basic wiccan powers of the Three were synergic and worked well together, covering three strategic aspects of fight: knowledge (Phoebe), defence (Piper) and attack (Prue). But Premonition is a difficult power to deal with when writing a story arc, and has always to come with limitations not to spoil the whole story. When the format of the show was “demon of the day”, basically Phoebe tracked the innocent and found out the plot of the demon that was soon to be vaquished. But when the show started covering long narrative arcs, phoebe’s power became a nuisance to writers: this is the reason why she never truly gained full control over it and lost it in season 6. Don’t you find very strange that a seer like Phoebe couldn’t find out that Gideon was the main antagonist in season 5, despite having both premonition and nearly telepathic empathy? Because it would have ruined the narrative arc! Also, I think that Phoebe should have received Astral Projection instead of Prue as an active power, while Levitation was the logical complement to Telekinesis.
No exactly! I think about this so much. Everybody had active powers except for Phoebe, they could’ve at least given her astral projection. And we’ve even seen Prue use her telekinetic power to basically make herself levitate during fight scenes anyway. It would’ve made way more sense this way

I actually liked that Phoebe made up for having a passive power by involved in martial arts and she would study the Book of Shadows to learn more about magic, as she is the only sister who accepted being a witch with no resistance, at least in the first 4 seasons.
I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks they should have given Phoebe Astral Projection. Her powers were all over the place that it didn’t make sense. I also think that they should have made her the cheerleader back in highschool. She was the most physically fit and her personality suits a cheerleader more. Prue was way too serious, so being class president made sense.

Disregarding the fact the writers constantly nerfed Phoebe-we’ve seen in Morality Bites that had her powers continued to grow Phoebe would actually be the most powerful witch out of the three sisters-being able to see both into the past and future, project herself into different timelines, empathic abilities, levitation, and channeling others’ powers and emotions to use against them in a deadly blow.... girl was literally equipped for world domination lol.

I loved it best when Phoebe's powers were actually useful in helping them save people and weren't just magic 8 balls for herself like later on. I also think there's so much more they could've done with this power that they didn't do. I also find it ironic that Phoebe is more powerful here than in the last season.
I really hate how they take away her power of levitation/flight and her empath powers I think she was setup to be the sister that becomes an elder with all her powers however they gave that spot to Paige because of her white-lighter half.
I agree, I read that they took away those powers because the harness that they used got too expensive. But at least give back empathy, that was her coolest one, she was able to channel other powers.

I think her empath power would’ve been really cool to expand on as she was able to influence people quite strongly. I like the new series in the regard that they seem to be exploring their powers and developing them really fast really showing us what the charmed ones could be at their full potential.
@FlyingMonkies325 incorrect. She never got levitation back or empathy. she had them take that potion before those powers were stripped. She was judged to be too irresponsible with them.

The writers were never able to come up with an ambitious way for Phoebe to use her premonitions. It resulted in this aberration: Prue and Piper are very quickly experienced witches with full control of their powers, while Phoebe will never have any control over her premonitions.
Phoebe’s power should’ve been Empathy since the beginning of the show… Preminition is actually time-related and she was supposed to be the emotion-related sister in the original plot.
In season one she actually gains it, just subtly. In the Power of Two Phoebe has a premonition of a woman about to be murdered by the ghost of a serial killer named Jackson Ward and she can feel her terror as she sees it. Phoebe was always meant to be an Empath, just wish they let her keep the power. 🙄
Very minor, but I do love the detail that when Prue and Phoebe are at the airport and Phoebe accidentally causes the magazines to fly away, many extras in the background react to it.
This power is unfairly underrated in the fandom. Without it the Charmed Ones would not have made it past day one. Arguably it was their most important power.

In Season 2 primarily she was the most into witchcaft and in Season 3 got to show off more of her kickboxing due to the most action pack nature. To me what made her powers useless was the fact after Season 5 her premonitions no longer served the purpose they were suppose to, instead she would just have visions revolved around herself or her desires. Which completely made the power useless, as not only did it no longer serve as a warning of past/future events or to save innocents, but it seemed to just reflect Phoebe's own personality. Not only that she had less premonitions as he series progressed, as after Season 5 none of her premonitions broke above a 5 episode count. Which means any time a demon attacks she was largely useless because she barely even used kickboxing. By Season 8 she was basically no different than a non-powered being given how little to no use she served in battle. She doesn't have a single fight scene in Season 8. All of this is further compounded by the fact Paige's sensing made her premonition power no longer useful, as Paige could just sense and know where the innocents are, all it would take is knowing what their innocent looked like. Plus they just used the Elders for relying on future knowledge. As for levitation it was a lame/useless power that never got any chance to shine. As not only is it not used after mid-season 5, but she never did much with it beyond float slightly above the ground she stood on and then flew at someone slowly with a kick. And while Empathy is certainly powerful, how "long" she had it wasn't. Plus she never learned how to properly use it beyond deflecting a few demon fireballs. And just spent time complaining about her feeling other people's feelings or using it to self insert herself/personal gain.

Wow I agree. It would have made a lot more sense that way. I think to avoid a Jean Grey OP Prue they avoided that.
