I bought one a few weeks ago. They could do the Becker name way better. A disappointing purchase. I don’t understand how they can call this a hard-use knife with no traditional stop pin. I’d rather them make another one. Use G-10 or Micarta scales. D2 or better steel. And an actual stop pin. What would that cost? 50-70 bucks? I think a lot of people would gladly play that. I know I would.

They got SO close to making a decent tactical folder. I had just wished we got better steel! … I am a die hard believer that if KA BAR just bit the bullet and released a $70 or up folder, made in the US, with their 1095 Cro Van steel and say either a wooden or G10 handle variant… that people WOULD purchase it. I truly thing the major reason they don’t is fear it would not sell… it just burns me that KA BAR makes these super fantastic fixed blades, yet all of their folders are overseas and cheaper material made knives.

Could you please do a comparison video of knives that use the lock back design and knives using the liner lock design? I want to see what you say about the pluses and minuses between the two if there are any. Or, which style lock in general you prefer and why. I typically only purchase lock back knives. I had a liner lock knife disengage while using once and it turned me off to them. I think it disengaged because of the way I was gripping the knife.

Heart of each blade is steel and its heat treatment.
AUS 8 is just too simple for any kind of improvement through heat treatment.
When frequently used, it requires at least stropping on daily basis.
If they wanted to make it cheap, D2 in incomparably better choice.

I really liked the look and size of the KA-BAR BK40 Becker Folding Knife at first, how the handle is ergonomically shaped, and especially how it has a wire deep carry pocket clip. But what I absolutely can't stand about the KA-BAR BK40 Becker Folding Knife is how you can clearly see "China" written in large black lettering on the spine of its blade!!! I've never seen a knife company write China on the spine of the blade before, doing that is extremely weird and offputting to me!!! Why is "China" written on the spine of the blade? Also, why did it have to be written using such a large black font? Most knife companies which have their knives produced in China are a lot more discrete about it by having the word "China" written in a microscopic font which they place on a much less obvious area on the blade. Why does it say "Olean NY USA" directly under the BK Ka-Bar logo on the side of the bade, but then on the spine of the blade it clearly says "China"? That would be like a Spyderco putting Golden Colorado Earth on the ricasso of their Byrd Knives and then having China on the spine of the blade!!! I'm not upset about where the KA-BAR BK40 Becker Folder is made(China). I'm upset about how Ka-Bar decided to billboard "China" on the most obvious part of the knife which is the spine of the blade!!! Another question, why is the KA-BAR BK40 Becker Folding Knife made with AUS-8A blade steel? The Ontario Rat 1 with D2 blade steel costs the exact same price as the new KA-BAR BK40 Becker Folder which uses AUS-8A blade steel and you can get the AUS-8A version of the Ontario Rat 1 for $5.00 cheaper than this new KA-BAR BK40 Becker Folder. In my opinion, the Ontario Rat 1 is still a better choice than the KA-BAR BK40 Becker Folder because for the same price you're getting a Taiwan-produced knife with better steel(D2) that doesn't have "China" obnoxiously written on the spine of its blade!!!

AUS-8 can hardly get through half a day before needing edge work, its 2021, there is no need to continually use the lowest grade stainless you can... These "American" companies using garbage steel are quickly loosing their following because they are not advancing. It's why companies like CIVIVI are so popular, good materials, good quality and a good price. Ka-bar is a well known name but they don't make anything that gets the masses excited, and that Becker 'wave' has been rode out...

I REALLY wanted to like this knife when I saw it a few weeks back. Up to this point, I've been enamored with just about anything that has Ethan's name on it. For years now, when it comes to my folder, I can't seem to pick-up anything but a 110 Slim Select (*even having more premium and expensive options available)...and was hoping to find something to throw into the mix, to add a little variety. From what I remember, you really liked the 110 Slim Select. So, if you read this, please riddle me this...If I should score one of these BK-40s, will I be horribly disappointed if the only thing that's been in my pocket is a 110 Slim?

Yes. The BK40 is a $20 knife at most. I was so disappointed when I got mine. Love the design, execution is not good though. It is functional for sure, but as Aaron said there is lock rock. Compared to my Aus8 Rat, which was $28, the Rat is so much higher on the quality and fit and finish. Why Kabar didn't get this made in Taiwan I don't understand. It would have been a home run and would have easily been worth $40. I love my Beckers, but they need to up the game on this knife badly.

The handle is extremely comfortable, the blade is attractive as well as useful, but AUS8 is not going to hold it's edge for long. The market is chock full of sub $50 Chinese made D2 or 14C28N knives, so I see no reason for KABAR to skimp on the steel and use AUS8. I love the design. El passo; rat 1 instead; thinner behind the edge and price; plus I'd rather a mora for outdoors.

I have a BK40. It’s a good blade but I would prefer to see it made of 1095CV and made in the USA because it is a Becker and being made in China takes away the pride of the Becker name

Hello everyone, I change knives every week. Last week I wore an Esee AVISPA in D2, the week before it was a Viper Fortis in m390 and now it's a Rat1 in D2 in my pocket. I really like the design of this Becker knife. I don't know the AUS8, not having knives in this steel grade. I really like the "bite" of D2. But what I don't like at all is that this knife is made in China. Just for that I will not buy it. I own very few Chinese knives, I haven't bought this kind of blade for years. I prefer to pay more and buy in countries whose companies pay their workers correctly. Sorry for my English, I speak French ...

Ka Bar really needs to shift away from the Becker lineups... it holds them back just because the BK2/16/9 are sellers

Ka-bar Gila VS BK40!!! I don't personally like thumb studs. I stick to flippers or those cutouts like the Gila. :D

  • @Murphnuge
    @Murphnuge 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I feel John and the folks at Ka-Bar are using this as barometer for the market. I truly believe there will be a US made version eventually. Ethan has wanted a folder for a long time and he's not getting any younger. This was a way to make that dream a reality until a viable US producer can be found. It won't be cheap when it's US made. Despite all the folks that claim they want it made domestically, less than half will drop the coin when/if it happens.

At the 7:14 mark in this video, you can clearly see "China" stamp on the spine of the blade on the Ka-Bar Becker BK-40.

They literally missed the boat by not making this in The US and at the very minimum. Taiwan….I’m a huger Becker fan. I might still pick this up but Meh.

Bk-40 made in China..Aus 8.. Rat 1 is a better knife.. I would have much rather seen Ka-Bar Becker make everything in the USA. I would have rather paid the extra for USA made. I have the Dozier which is a good knife, and the 5cr13mov piece of junk Ka-Bar sales
