HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!! VERY ENJOYABLE. Harry Caray puts fun in Broadcasting. Having some 1981 commercials was great! The news break announcing Mount ST Helen eruption was interesting.
@@pheniafilmsthemlbarchiveso9229 We all have our stories of heartbreak, and disillusion associated with that 1981 season- My biggest was eagerly anticipating the 'soon to be played' Pirates' 3 game series in LA, tickets in hand, that was cancelled when the strike hit. However, after that fun 1981 All Star game..."we" were all "in it" again. So, you as a kid at Shea were "in a pennant race". Kids in Chicago, and Detroit had hope. Don't get me wrong, some team's players were not ready and it showed on the field, (see the Pirates),but for a one shot season I think most of us enjoyed what we saw even if 'our' teams came up short. That is unless you were/are a Reds or a Cardinals fan! It culminated in fun playoff matches, and another Yankees Dodgers World Series.
Couple of interesting things was the Sox went to WGN in 1981. They should have stayed with them considering the reach WGN had with cable systems across the country. The other interesting thing was this was an omen of things to come. Harry would jump over to the North Side in 1982 to be with the Cubs. A great move for Harry’s career and a great move by the Cubs. Not such a great move by the White Sox letting him get away.
I remember this great broadcast, the Red Sox should have kept Pudge, what a mistake, they acquired Joe Rudi & Tony Perez, where did 42 years go so fast
Anyone remember 2 years later 1983 , LaRussa decided to leave Burns in the 10th inning to pitch to Baltimore Tito Landrum? I was at that game pretty hammered, I dosed off a little and the CRACK of the Bat woke me; and all I saw was the baseball ⚾️ sailing into the upper deck scoreboard. 😱🙄😲😲😬🥺😩😕☹️...Yes, the PACKED sold out Comiskey Park was Devastated. Sox were eliminated. Awesome World Series 1982 St. Louis Cardinals vs the Milwaukee Brewers.
Any White Sox games when they're wearing their red uniforms? They teased us Sox fans for a couple of years there. We actually thought they were gonna be good.
If you look at the final standings in 1981 and had there been no divisional playoffs, it would have been the Reds vs Cardinals in the NLCS. Both had the best records in their division that season. Unfortunately, both were victims of the split season. Instead, it was Dodgers vs Astros for the NL West and Phillies vs Expos for the NL East as the season was split. The historical significance that occurred during the postseason of 1981, it marked the first, and sadly, the only time the Montreal Expos made the postseason and lost the pennant on Blue Monday in the final inning. What might have been.
@@markofly76 It was all arranged to get the Dodgers & Yankees in the World Series. I don't mean it was "fixed", but since the Dodgers & Yankees had already "won" the first half, they were taking no chances that they wouldn't be in the playoffs, so they arranged the whole split season farce. The first year since I started watching baseball where I didn't bother watching the playoffs or World Series. Why bother?
When free agency came, the A’s players took advantage . They’re dynasty (1971-75 ) gone. Here is where each player turned up next. Bill North SF. Vida Blue SF Gene Tenace SD. Bert Campaneris Tex Joe Rudi Cal. Reggie Jackson Balt. Sal Bando Mil. Rollie Fingers SD Ken Holtzman ( Cubs ) and Catfish Hunter ( NYY ) also moved on.
Jimmy didn't have a filter. Got him fired talking about players/managers wife's er broads. Oh well. Jim always landed on his feet. My favorite was when he was with the Mets and hit his 10pth Homer. Ran the bases backwards. Stengal was so pissed he got traded to the Angel's. Commisuoner Frick makes new rule next day. Not allowed to run bases backwords.
Been a Sox fan since 1964. Worst Sox uniforms ever, especially the White with blue collar and the shorts. Horrible! Bill Veck did many great things but this was his big flop.
Jimmy played that up. Only player I know of who formed his own corporation in the 50s. Everyone else had a winter job. Not Piersall. He gave himself a job.
These complete game replays are GOLD!
Loved listening to the ChiSox announcers Harry Carey and Jimmy Piersall! Very entertaining combination!!
Best in my lifetime. I'm always been a big fan of both. I'm 72
These two play by play announcers are legends together, what a combo
Piersall is a crack-up!! He's also very incisive and knows his baseball, a lot of modern announcers could learn from his commentary.
I love those White Sox uniforms... Bill Veeck was a genius
The original (76-79) was crap. Until Reinsdorf/Einhorn had it modified for 1980-80. .It than looked more naval
@@mariocisneros9111981 is the first season when Einhorn & Reinsdorf took ownership.

Love the Sox uniforms
Today we have a pitch clock and bases the size of pizza boxes 😂😂 What a joke!
fuckin hate todays beer league MLB
It sucks with those computer nerds with their analytics telling every player to swing for the fences at every at-bat.
White Sox 1981 opening day lineup included three players who were Montreal Expos in 1980 - Ron LeFlore, Tony Bernazard, Bill Almon.
I love me some '80s White Sox & Harry Caray.
The Big possums walk late!
RIP WGN.
Watching a Red Sox game with Harry Caray announcing…priceless
Hard to believe Fisk played more games with the White Sox than he did for Boston.
Not many more

But more.
343 more games

The Red Sox should have made a better effort to keep Pudge, he was such a great player
PUDGE 27 to 72!
In retrospect- Love the 1981 season.
Me too..went to many games that season at Shea

This game is a gem. Thank you!
Thanks so much for posting this! I'm a big LeFlore fan and to see his first game with the White Sox is great!

Harry and Jimmy.Good times.
Great game. Fisk cements is legacy, and officially closes the Red Sox portion of his career.
Wow, Joe Rudy and Tony Perez playing for the Red Sox.
The Carlton Fisk Game. #Clas-sic
Bob Stanley was around forever seems for a guy that always was shakey.
Lard-a** Stanley was always like that...

Can you believe that Tony La Russa is the White Sox manager in 2021?
That is SO weird. I totally remember him in his first era in Chicago. Damn! 40 YEARS AGO...unreal.
The color and clarity of image in this ballgame video is just fantastic! Well done, thanks for posting!

1981, the year the Reds had the best record in baseball but missed the playoffs because of the split season.

Notice Harry mentioning Steve Stone as the starting pitcher for Baltimore…
Steve Stone is a baseball guru.
Lol
What are great team Caray and Piersall were.
Highlights:
Caray - Mrs Stone had to settle for Gary Allenson.
Piersall - I want to say hello to all your taverns around the country Harry.
It was the final season together. You all know where Harry ended up.

Harry : "Bob Clear and Tom Burkenmeier in the bullpen"
Harrry to Piersall "all those old girlfriends of yours are old enough to be dead already"
