Parasite Eve was one of my favorite Square PS1 RPGs, and its sci-fi body horror makes it a perfect pick for this time of year. And really, what other game would teach you the melting point of the human body?
I never played the game since I was too spooked when I was a kid but I watched every playthrough my dad has done with both Parasite Eve 1 and 2. It's one of the best games out there!
Man do I wish this would get remaster, a remake, or a spiritual successor. Many fond memories of playing this as a teen. At night. In the dark. Side note, they were really good at hiding side areas with loot.

Heck yeah!! Between this and resident evil 2, this was the best time for horror games IMO. I was so glad my mom got me this game back in 1998 as a kid back then. Everything about this game is a landmark! 😊
At that time PSX was all the rage, the hype of the gaming industry. I remember getting only Japanese version of PE at first and still getting the plot based on context, though being completely lost in controls (especially mixing/tool'ing the weapons). To say the game has magical properties in it is to say nothing. To this day I remember my walk to the friends' house to play some of PE with him. Setting, music of Yoko Shimomura, body horror aspects, quasi-scientific explanations - think they did incredible job of putting together many concepts, including early drafts for next FF into something much bigger. PE is my all time favourite PSX game easily, if not all time to be honest. Considering my affection with different consoles, so many classics of PSX era and golden age of PC gaming of late nineties, it says a lot. Not many can stand close to it in depth of the impact it had on me personally. I cherish it sincerely. Thanks for putting up this vid (and Chrysler building walkthrough, never finished it as a kid as I thought it was just a challenge run), anything PE is such a treat!
I remember Parasite Eve being a big deal around this time. There was talk at the time of a live action Hollywood movie starring Madonna. Thank God that never happened.
Funny to think....30 years ago when I was a kid, Madonna was already washed up and old but she some how stayed famous all these decades later.....no one talks about bozo the clown anymore....
Great game, really liked it back in the day. I'd argue it's the best one of the bunch, two. I enjoyed Parasite Eve 2 as well, but it wasn't 'quite' as good in my experience. Would love to read the novel one day too, I wonder how many differences there are.
Well, to be honest, I never read the Novel, but I watched the Movie that Based on the Novel... From that experience, all I can say is if you really want to read the Novel, please don't have a high expectation. I really love Parasite Eve game, but the Movie is just mid. I must admit that Squaresoft really good at making this game, Based on that Novel. Anyway just want to add : If you still don't know, The Novel main story is about what happened with that Scientist Wife in Japan (If you remember, Maeda ever told Aya the story of what happened in Japan... And Yes, the Novel is about that Story).
Still remember seeing the trailer for this one on a demo disc and I knew I had to play it. Classic game. Sequel was pretty good too, although much more traditional survival horror with tank controls and a lot of inventory puzzles. Shame they never made another one after that though, eh?
O well, actually they made the 3rd Game... But for a lot of Parasite Eve Fans, the 3rd Game is really a failure. The title for the 3rd Game is "The 3rd Birthday", and since SquareEnix already lost their rights at that time, they can't use the term 'Parasite Eve' or maybe even 'Mitochondria'... so yeah, the story is becoming like a really different story. You can check The 3rd Birthday if you want (It was a PSP Game), but yeah, don't expect too much. PS : That said, I myself actually still enjoy the game. But yeah, I don't want to associated that game with Parasite Eve Franchise. The gameplay is kinda unique, with Aya's Spirit moving from 1 soldier to another soldier, while facing the Twisted (That's the term for monster in The 3rd Birthday).
A game that started with a book that later got turned into a movie, which then got a continuation as a video game. Most unusual case, but a damn good game this turned out to be. I wish there was a mini-series or a new movie done based on it.
Anyway, I just realize you put (1 of 2) in the Title... Do you plan to finished 77 Floors of Chrysler Building too in your 2nd Playthrough? If you do, all I can say is Good Luck... and I suggest you created that 300 Junk Weapon 😅😅😅 I remember failed at Floor 50 when I played this game as a kid before, but recently, I play again, and now, I finished all of 77 Floors.
Basically, a Rebellion of Mitochondria in human body. The idea is that within thousands of years, Mitochondria has evolve faster than human being, and now not only they have a mind of their own, they can even live even without the Energy supplied from the Nucleus. Using human body as their vessels, they started to Rebel against human being. Now it's all up to Aya Brea, the only human that's not affected by the Mitochondria Rebellion in her body, to Face against the Mitochondria that called herself as "Eve". Hope this explanation can help. PS : If you don't know about Mitochondria, you can find the explanation for Mitochondria in Google, or anything related to Medical Science.
Each weapon in Parasite Eve 1, have a multiplier Shot (You can check on the x(N) status of the said weapon). Like with x2, that means in 1 turn, it can shot 2 times, x5 that means in 1 turn, it can shot 5 times, etc. There are several automatic weapon that have a higher multiplier shots. But I admit, the weapon system in Parasite Eve 1, is actually 1 of the weakest system from all of Parasite Eve series (Imagine using the same Bullet type for Handgun, Assault Rifle, Shotgun, and even Grenade Launchers... Lol. Just Rocket Launcher have different Ammo; Rocket). And with the Upgrade, any weapon can becomes a powerful weapon. That's why at least for me myself, I more prefer the weapon system in Parasite Eve 2 (Eventhough I hate the control in that game, and the story in PE 1 is still better). Each weapon have different type of Bullets, and even for the bullets, there are several bullets for different use. And for what you mentioned before, some of Automatic Weapons in Parasite Eve 2, really shoot automatically. And Grenade Launcher is really Powerful in that game (Usually I use M4A1 with Grenade Launcher Attachment).

Parasite Eve is my favorite game, and it's just about time for another playthrough!

Easily my favorite PS1 game, Res. Evil is second but Parasite Eve's story is just great.

Oh man with everything going on in the world it’s so nice to zone out to a good play through like those during work.
This is as good as dino crysis in my opinion. I remember renting this at blockbuster multiple times until I beat it as a kid.
