That was a great idea re-tooling those Contax lenses. Love the sea side shots. When I grew up the railway ran 100yds. behind my house. Began in the late steam Era into the diesel era.
Thanks Michael! Sadly I missed the steam era but Dad talks fondly of it. (I remember them extending the Swange line when we were kids). Great that it was so close to your house!
Yes that train line is a great experience. We've done it at Christmas before, well worth a visit. Amazing all round. Great pictures especially the b&w at holt Matt:)
Great photos as usual Matt! The Norfolk coastline looks similar to the Brighton coastline with all the pebbles and pier. I went to University of Essex for Grad School so I toured the UK during breaks. Great lens a little over my price range!
Those blue-hour photos at the pier were so lovely, and the steam engine section in the end, reminded me to look at booking my fall foliage steam engine tour! I love seeing vintage optics getting a new life especially via creative engineering and rehousing. My Summitar also has the flare cut-off on the top of the frame. I enjoy vintage lens flare, but it is a bit odd and distracting to have a sharp cut off; I picked up a XOONS for cheap, maybe that will resolve the issue.
Hi Matt. Love this old train stuff. If you ever manage to get up north, check out Llangollen train station in North wales or Howarth in west Yorkshire. They not only have steam trains but also have a wedding venue in what I think was a waiting room. I shot a wedding there a few years ago.
Love the extremely compact size, would love to get the summarit off my Minilux converted one day but maybe by MS-Optics instead. Maybe try giving them a go Matt!
What a nice post Matt, love the theme and location, a colleague of mine from London visits there quite a bit. I am intrigued with the adaptation of that nice Kyocera lens. Are there no electronics required? IIRC on my G1 bodies the lens can be controlled electronically or manually. Thank you again for sharing this -Ralf
'Nuther gidjin. I always enjoy both the video and the display of your work. That Canon lens rehoused by Omnar is a honey. I can see why you are taken by it. It does have the Sonnar magic and it is so well expressed. You know I am partial to the Sonnars, CZJ and otherwise, so this one is interesting. It is dear but should be a welcome addition to any serious shooter who wants a magic 38. It has a sweetness to it. Great RR pics. I know they are the picks of possibly hundreds of shots but those picks are good picks. Someday I will be saying, "Matt Osborne? Yeah, I remember him when he was just starting off. And look at him now!" You just keep ascending. All the best and thanks for another great video.
Thanks Sandy, yes day 1 and day 3 were more digital, day 2 I was focused on film. I didn't take hundreds of digitals, just if something caught my eye. Thanks for the kind words as always!
love this...and i loved all the T2s I had...but please get a Rollei 40mm HFT Sonnar LTM...same size as the conversion with superior optics...I like its performance much better than the Leica/Minolta 40mmf2
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom the Rollie is a sonnar and I think you would love the rendering vs the more clinical VL. They are worth the price. One of the tiniest sonars ever made for LTM or M. Think mini Zeiss 50 1.5.
Very nice and interesting video Matt. The lens conversion was new to me. Knew the T2 though. 🎉 Love the watching the stills with the steam engine sounds in the bg, cool edit. Are you going to put some of the images on flickr. Been there looking at the 4x5's That tree shot is amazing. Watching these shot without the yt compression does so much more for the shots. Excellent and thanks for sharing 🎉
Thanks Rob! Yes I uploaded one last night and will try to put a few more of my favs on there. (I'll probably post more once I develop the film as that's my interest).
Love Sheringham & Cromer - an amazing f & C ship at Number 1 just above the pier - the railway has strong links to Dads Army for any fans out there. Lovely walk along the beach - cliffs and fossils as well... 100 % recomm. Stripped Zeiss lens from a T2 - feels sooooo wrong.
Thanks Michael! Yes we had F&C one day! Thanks about the Dad's army link. Yes a very nice 2 days coming from inland. (The main reason for the trip was to shoot film so more videos to come).
Ah man, I used to have a fully coupled MS optics conversion (that cost £350 to convert back in the day) but stupidly sold it. The price for this conversion is very high for me!
Hi Matt✌ Oh yes, the lens has something very interesting shots alone, even the bokeh, mega👍And thanks for the impressions and impressions. The background noise in the pictures shown is also a dream👌Have you also used it on the M6? Think with adapter or directly attached? ok already after reading is directly linked to removal meter.😁😁 Lg Anderl
The idea is brillinat if not new, but the prices??? I first heard about this sort of conversion a few years ago where a Japanese person was converting the brilliant Zeiss-Contax G AF lenses using a helicoid to an M mount. I believe that he has stopped producing these helicoids. Now, as I have two dead Contax G2 bodies that no one can repair, if this Omnar produced a Helicoid to convert those lenses with, it might be of interest otherwise I think given the asking prices people would probably cough up the extra £500.00 or so and get the equivalent Summicron, or even cheaper Elmarit. Still, I guess more choice is better than none.
Yes and I think the quantities are so low they can charge any price and they'll still sell in a flash. It's common for people to convert G lenses to M mount, especially in Asia/ Hong Kong as I hear. These guys do that too. (It's like you predicted a video that's coming) ;)
Love the video Matt but its a pass for me on the lens. IMO it isn't unique enough to justify the price of 2,750GBP! It's neat to see these conversions being done but the value isn't there (for me).
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom I've learned a TON from your videos about possibly gear and techniques with cameras.. From his videos I really learned WHAT to look for in that style of photography. He was my Cartier-Bresson.
@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom yeah saw it, i would love this lens to make sense, but for the price is really a niche. I would like to own this lens but for the money i'll go with a summicron, and if i want the t2 lens epxerience, i buy a t2 for way cheaper, but nice video and amazing lens!! IF the lesn new was around 1k or 1.5k max than would make sense.

i love that lens but are they serious regarding the price of almost 3k ?
I guess if they only made 17 they can charge any price and they'll still sell instantly. Too much for me but fun to test.
Considering they have to get the cameras and then convert the lenses it isn’t a bad price
Very crazy price. Any other $3k m-mount lens will outperform this, but this has a cool factor and is a conversation starter.

When your lens gets sprayed, what do you use to clean it? Thanks another brilliant video! 👍
Thanks! Ideally have a UV filter on if shooting in the rain/ sea spray, then just wipe with a normal lens cloth.

Can it be used with focus linkage on an m-mount film camera?
